As a writer I would like to ask you what made said Shepard become a Mary-Sue?
Just want to know how people feel that a character is a Mary-Sue.
I'm not Marshall, but I did get pretty far into that fic to get a good look at that Shepard.
It started out very good, like any other Shep and she was a Spacer Shep, which earned points from me in the beginning.
However, over time, people tended to... bend to Shepard's will even more so than in the games. It was a bit unnatural. The author also adopted that sort of writing style where she wrote situations where Shepard presents only one argument in regards to a situation and... tried a bit too hard to make it infallible, if you know what I mean. Like no one else in the story could provide any other option or dissent in any of Shepard's choices.
There are also points in the story where Shepard catches on to one of her enemies and makes her do a HeelFaceTurn fairly quickly and to the point where Shepard is SURE that the character in question would never turn against her. Even though said character was an assassin bent on killing Liara, or harming Shepard.
Even in the points where Shepard was completely out of line (like attacking a main character) that character was very quick to forgive Shepard and then they had drinks, I believe.
I said it was a good fic, which it is in many regards, but characterization isn't a strength of this particular writer. It's just one of those things about fanfics. You come across some that give you pieces of a great fic, but is just missing that one component to really make it great.
