I agree with most of your answers and I'm a Libra. I'm not saying astrology is all-knowing and correct. Just something fun to consider. And thanks for your answers ^^

Yeah, I've considered this, actually. It's not an integral, super-important aspect of my fic, so I'm not going to go all-out or anything. It's a subtle symbolism that I can work with well because I'm comfortable with astrology, and it's a far-fetched cycle that a lot of people don't believe. Or the ones that do believe it are judged in various ways. It's the cycle that matters to me, really.

If no one can give me an argument against this, I'm going to go on thinking that Liara is on the cusp of Aquarius/Pisces. Totally makes my year, so I hope no one comes in with their superior knowledge of astrology and proves me wrong. Posted Image

To be perfectly frank, the constellations in connection with each sign would be totally unrecognizable from Thessia and would most likely never align with the same period of time as on Earth, if they would align at all.

I mean, even now the constellations don't align anymore. There are actually thirteen constellations according to sidereal astrology, with each sign moved almost a month down. But all this only matters on Earth where it actually makes any sense, as it were. None of it would apply to another planet with a totally different celestial sphere.

So really, Liara would have no sign since she wasn't born on Earth.

No problem. I'm a bit neutral towards the idea of astrology. I assume the fun is in comparing you actual personality towards the one you're supposed to have as dictated by your sign.

EDIT:  Geez, it's four in the morning! I'm going to bed. Night, guys.

Yes, exactly! There are exceptions to the rule, and these cycles are relative to where you were born, not where you are now. New cycles can even grow from the current ones, anomalies if you will. For headcannon, I like to say that she's this sign because that's just how I understand astrology and personalities. It's also a personal thing. I'm not saying she is an Aquarius/Pisces, no, it's just a headcannon thing. Good fun.

Just finished TheMarshal's A Good Night, which was a pleasant surprise. Liara sounds very much like herself and I love her interactions with Shepard. Solid writing and a very fun read.

One word about the characterization that I sometimes seem to have trouble with…as a writer, you tend to avoid using the same words close together, keep your grammar clean and so on. Characters, however, don’t necessarily do that: their speech can be lazy, or they can overuse – or misuse – words or phrases. I find it tricky to that balance right. I’m sometimes irritated when the dialogue is ‘too good’, filled with nothing but good one-liners and so on.

What's all this talk about astrology? If anyone cares, I'm a Sagittarius, by one day... yeah either got screwed or got lucky depending on which way you look at it... Though I've no idea what being a Sagittarius actually means

I'd say you're doing quite well as a writer if your biggest problem is a dialogue filled with too-good one liners. ;)

Seriously though, I understand what you're talking about, but I tend to think it's better to have well-written dialogue, even if it's not always something a typical person might say. For example, I'd rather read Jack Vance's dialogue, which is out of this world, or listen to Joss Whedon's characters like Willow and Buffy even if I know normal teenagers don't talk like that. That said, it's possible that some fics or some situations call for a more life-like approach. I'm not a writer, though, so this is just my opinion as a member of the audience.

Guys, I'm sorry to veer off-topic, but is anyone into astrology? Western astrology to be specific. If so, does anyone have an idea as to whether or not Thessia has some kind of equivalent? And which sign do you think Liara would be for Earth's Western astrology? (Taurus, Capricorn, Pisces?) I'm looking at her personality and wondering which she would be best suited for. If no one has any idea, I guess I can go back to speculating on my own...

I always thought  she was an Aquarius.

That's...interesting. I think she fits Pisces. Possibly on the cusp now that you've said this. This information has made my year.

We can't really know without a birthdate to be honest. Quick google search has some say Scorpio, strangely enough. :?

But we do know Liara's birthday, her writer Sylvia said on twitter that it was the 27th of marts (or I assume she was born on the Thessian day at the same time as the human 27th of marts) placing her birthday only 15 days before Shepard's.

As far as I recall her tweet:
Q: What is Liara's birthday?

S: I hadn't thought of that, but since you asked I declare it to be today (27th of marts).

Though I am not really interested in astrology and I don't think we can give Liara a human constellation to match, even if some of her personality trait would line up, if anything she should have an asari one though of course we don't really know anything about those.

I agree, it is one of my absolutely favourite fics, particularly the last chapter Posted Image

Heh, I'll just ask you a few questions instead. You should know the answer to them.

Do you consider yourself to be a social person?
Are you flirtatious by nature, even if you restrain your behavior? Life of the party kind of person?
Do you find yourself going into arguments with an impartial mind?
Are you adept at being able to see things from another's point of view?
Do lots of emotions make you uncomfortable, namely the melodramatic and irrational ones?

Talking about astrology is pointless because we don't even know that Thessians would have anything like an astrology system in the first place, and even if they did, it'd be completely different than Earth's. Thessia very likely doesn't even have the same length year as Earth! And then from Thessia, the constellations would look completely different, as in they would draw their own constellations.

And of course, the other thing to keep in mind is that their constellations would be based around the life on their planet.

I'm sorry Mally but that baby looks squashed and ridiculous.
(Those shades look awkward on Shepard too!)

Seriously that baby. Did you subscribe to the bioware school of "just distort an adult" like they did in the final ending picture? Did you just take Liara's sex scene model and distort that?

Edit - Props for the concept though. Hell if a nice relaxing picture of Liara and Shep lounging on a beach isn't exactly what I want to see, after the pain and stress of the endings and all that. It's exactly the ending I wanted for them - before they head off to a life together on Thessia, anyway!

Just I take issue with your execution!

Not only that, but why would you hold a baby like that? That's kid's probably going to fall, since they're walking.

And here you go - yet another part of the asari way of life that can be explored further through extra content. I'm genuinely interested in such things, as well as different asari religions and philosophies. If enough effort is put in its creation, people can come up with a unique way that the asari view astrology and whether they have something similar to humans' star signs or something completely different.

By the way, I don't know if you guys have seen that (seeing as I've missed nearly fifteen pages since last night) Thessia will be featured in the new Rebellion Multi-Player DLC Pack. I'm excited to see and play it. Hopefully it will be somewhere different than the areas we've seen in Single Player. Hope they do it some justice.

On my last playthrough I kept an eye out on Thessia to see if there were any areas that looked like they could be easily engineered into a MP map. Didn't find any. So I'm expecting something new.

:happy::happy: yeah.

But, I think it could be made interesting to even us sceptics by introducing some pseudo-science into it. Does require a little cosmological modeling, sure, but you can do that just on paper and be close enough.

Not exactly flattering that one, dunno if it's the lighting or the skin colour/texture, but just seems off somehow.

I see in some fanfics that when Liara is rescued by Shepard, it's the first time she sees a human. I assume we have no confirmation for that in canon? In any case, I do think it can be plausible, considering that humans haven't been that long in the galactic scene and that Liara has probably spent much of that time on various dig sites. Whether Shepard is the first human Liara she sees or not, I quite like fics that explore how Liara sees humans from her perspective. There are obviously a lot of differences between asari and humans like communication (human idioms, body language), physical attributes (hair, etc.), and culture and it's interesting to see how Liara perceives these differences. Likewise, it can be interesting to go into Shepard's head and sees how s(he) deals with being in close contact with many different aliens perhaps for the first time in his/her life.
