Looking at Liara from a gameplay perspective, I think she's absolutely incredible in ME3. Well, she's amazing in all three games, but that's beside the point.

Alongside my Adept main Shepard, the pair of them absolutely destroy the enemy. With Garrus also in tow, there is nothing that the team cannot handle. Given that the recharge time for Liara's Singularity is only a few seconds, it's possible to have biotic explosions erupting all over the place. It's great! I know she's pretty squishy, but that just means that you have to use her effectively. There's no sense in trying to turn her into a tank.

So yeah, gameplay Liara is awesome.

I'll see your Adept Shepard-Liara-Garrus team and raise you a Adept Shepard-Liara- Kaidan team.

Team biotic Death ftw!Image IPB

ME1 Liara was my favourite for combat. I recently had a run through of Noveria to grab some footage, and I'd forgotten what a nutter she is. You spot some red enemies on the radar and she's off. Gone. Throwing the enemy around like rag dolls, running in to finish them off with her assault rifle.

I'm sure I heard her shout once "Leeeeeeeeeroy Jenkins!"

I am working on a chapter where Liara is going to a dinner party at Shepard's place and while I have an idea on what she would bring (no, they are not in a romance yet) ... what do you see her bringing if she went shopping with Chakwas on the Arcturus Station? Just curious as to what other Liara fans could see Liara picking as a gift for her hostess.

Well, I would suggest Liara tries expanding E.W.'s cultural horizons by bringing her a selection of her own favourite asari music, including a certain piece by Akdhat. But I suspect you already have your own plans about how they discover they share a taste in music... :)

You take that many shots and you won't even be able to SPELL AA. :P

Wait... what do Asari Adepts have to do with anything? *goes back to playing ME3 MP...*

My Kaelis Shepard is an adept as well and I love to have him and Liara biotically kill everything Image IPB, I usually have either Garrus or EDI along as well as they are my favourites after my dear asari.

@PMC: I think Liara would bring something practical as a gift, I don't really see her as the type to bring wine or foodstuff.
Perhaps something combat related, like an omni-tool or biotic amb as suggested or an upgrading component to either armour or weapons or even a manufacturer liscense.
Alternatively it could be something less agressive, a new translator or a VI to take care of some of Shepard's paperwork or something along those lines.

I have to agree, I think Liara would look for something more practical and not so standard as just wine or something. She'd look for something more suited to Shepard as a person.

In ME3 I once heard Liara shout out some really agressive combat shout. I can't remember it and I can't find it in the TLK file so I can't quote it here.

But anyways, I was like: "What did you say?! You really enjoy killing these husks, huh? I guess husks are fine for letting out all that anger, just don't warp me please.". Reminded me of the scary Liara on Illium when she was threatening to flay people alive.

LOL! Since Chakwas has previously been to Shepard's with a bottle that might be too obvious on her part to sucker
poor Liara that way. But the scene it put in my head was funny!

Hah, yeah. :) Now I have an urge to write something about that, but uhhh....
Tho I'd still go with something useful like that holster I mentioned.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Thank goodness that she has the good doctor Chakwas to help her pick something out although she had already went on the extranet to see what one should bring to a dinner party. She is a master researcher. I just have to pick which one she would go with and why. Ack!!!

Yes, that shared love of music is covered. Image IPB

Well if we're talking about the Liara in your story...she likes Skyball right? A good present would be a jersey of her favorite team :D To get Shepard into the sports if she isn't already!

LOL!!!

The Serrice Delphinus just squashed the human team Los Angeles Seafarers so that might be a sore topic at the moment! I can just see Liara hidden in Chakwas private quarters watching the game and quietly pleased that they showed the Seafarers why the asari dominate the game. That snob!

Cannot be solved, data incomplete. That is to say, I’ve not read enough to be able to determine what would be appropriate for the type of relationship they have.

I think Liara would obsess over something like that gift, being both prone to obsessing and acutely aware of her social shortcomings. The type of the relationship would have a huge impact on the choice, as of course any asari traditions relating to gifting. She would research human gifting traditions and find no help there.

It probably wouldn’t be something symbolic (for herself or Shepard) because she’d fear it would seem adolescent. It would also probably have some practical aspect to it, not a pure object d’art. At the same time, it wouldn’t be something purely utilitarian like the equivalent of wine, either, because that could seem thoughtless. She’d probably shy away from arty stuff altogether unless she knows what EW likes. She’d probably try very hard to avoid anything that could be interpreted to imply a romantic interest or any other type of ‘relationship status change’. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea

Oh, and she would obviously avoid anything that might imply she spent the entire week selecting the gift.

(Also, now you basically know what my December is like.)

Aaaaw now that's a cute picture...Liara sitting in there, waving a small flag of her team...cheering quietly in a hushed voice as to not attract any attention of whoever might pass by.  Being all pleased with every goal scored....then forgetting all about the secrecy and starting to yell and whoop and curse only to be caught by a rather surprised Shepard who isn't really sure what exactly she's seeing.

Maybe she'll grab something that goes well with Spoggoten. Depending on how you want to play it, you could also use the encounter to highlight Liara's social inexperience with humans and overal adorable awkwardness or add a comedic light to the situation. As a master reseacher, I'm sure she can find a suitable present idea over the extranet, but say if Arcturus station didn't provide the certain gift and she had to improvise on the spot, she might choose something that might lead to an awkward scene because she's unaware of human customs (I have no examples at the moment). If Chakwas was there, I'm sure she'd make sure that Liara wouldn't completely embarrass herself, but I suspect the good doctor can't resist a little mischief every now and then.

I'm sure Liara would research what gift would be appropriate, she'd probably worry about making a bad impression or even insulting the Commander; but wasn't she not allowed access to the extranet? Or have her l33t haxor skillz suddenly improved?

I love how her expression changes in a split second here. The cinimatic did a good job all around, as did the animators. But that really slow walk at the end is irritating after two playthroughs..

Erenbe - I just spit my drink reading that. Thanks for the mess!

Icyflare - What kind of wine goes with Spoggoten and meatballs anyway?

frudi - Let's not talk about her hacking skills. Years later she will still need help on hacking thinks.

Yes, I loved the flirting and romance content on Mars. The way that she maintains eye contact for a few seconds before she smiles is just gorgeous.

Props to the animators indeed.

Yea, from the moment Liara appeared on Mars, I had a stupid grin on my face.  I loved it when she says she knows what's going on and almost skips to the window as if to say "I know something you don't" in a playful way.

Man, the meeting on Mars, how Liara and Shep actually acted like lovers, like they were so glad to see eachother, how playful Liara was at points...I was just ecstatic throughout that. Really wasn't expecting to run into Liara again so soon, too, considering how long it took in ME2.

Shame they didn't maintain that level of quality and attention to detail throughout the rest of the game..

....space red wine? Honestly, I have no idea, but it doesn't have to be a wiine snce that's what most people would expect and thus should be averted for the element of surprise  ;)  Flowers could do, or some kind of treat that Liara thinks human would like. Up to you.

Regarding gameplay, Liara was always my favorite squadmate in all three games. Not only was she nice to look at, but I like biotic powers and Liara is the best biotic squadmate in all games. And yes, Liara's singularity with the extra short cooldown is ridiculously powerful in ME3.

I think it would be more than just practical - but something emotional as well. Look at her gift in LotSB, she returns the dogtags, something she has had very obvious emotional ties to.

Definitely something suited to Shepard too. Maybe a picture or something?
