I'd imagine it would be similar to having the traditional military brat upbringing. Constantly getting posted as your parents are promoted, being lugged here there and everywhere when they go on course.rubynorman wrote...
I'm trying to write a fanfic about my spacer/war hero Shep before ME1 but it's really hard and quite boring. I can't imagine how Shep's parents could raise little Shep on ship/station with their works. Kindergarten on ship?
I end up drawing a fanart. Will finish it next week. Hope it will turn out ok.
It can be hard to attach yourself to anywhere, or anybody, aside from your family, and even then...at least when I was growing up, I kind of resented my dad a little because he was always getting posted. Each time I managed to make new friends or got accustomed to somewhere, I'd be heading off to somewhere else. And when I wasn't being moved across the country, I'd never see him because he'd be on a course somewhere, or overseas on a mission.
I'm not sure how you'd make that upbringing less boring in the same way I'm not sure how to make any origin not boring, since I don't know your Shep and his/her personality or character traits.
I'd imagine being on numerous ships, post-contact would lead to hearing a lot of war stories and a lot of really crazy stories about other species that could fuel Shepard's curiosity?
I mean, it's your Shep. His/Her upbringing doesn't need to be traumatic or tragic or super exciting. It is what it is.

I have a spacer and his background is challenging ... I haven't started drafting his story yet but I see him spending more time with his dad who ends up assigned to the Arcturus Station then his mother who is always assigned to ships. You could also have your Shepard shuttled off to his/her family back on Earth when both his parents are on ships. It's a pretty rough life I would think being a spacer kid. As someone who never lived in one place longer than 6 months growing up you learn how to adapt quickly and for me, I get antsy if I stay in one place too long ... I call it the gypsy in me.

I've never really imagined my colonist Shep having any family left after Mindoir. Does make me sad Liara can't meet any of Shep's family but Shep knows they'd have approved. Guess they'll have to make up for it by spending lots of time with Liara's dad.

And now I wanted to share the Liara kills Kaidan dialogue. I thought it was pretty awesome that Liara knows that my Shepard is a biotic.

I always liked the spacer background, first time I had the opportunity to give my character a non tragic background!![]()
Although I am starting to grow the idea that Shepard's father was KIA during his tour of duty a few years after the Skyllian blitz.
In the start of ME1 Udina mentions that Shepard lived abord starships most of his life, would said starships be military or civilian? The former seems more unlikely due to the idea of having children on frontline warships seems almost outrageous.
Another thing is that of all the possible backgrounds. I can imagine Shepard having most experience with other aliens in the spacer background (although colonist also have a strong possibility).
Oh wait a sec.CrazyGreggy wrote...

I never really got the pureblood stigma. To me it seems strange asari would even fancy turians or salarians etc. I mean humans and asari look alike, so that kind of makes sense. I know Shep can romance Garrus, Thane or Tali but I doubt many of their fans would actually go there IRL, where as who could say no to an asari?
There was one thing that made the pureblood stigma kind of make sense to me though. The planet Tevura is named after the asari goddess of sex, love, travel and law. In the planets description it explains that these things go together because asari tend to travel to find a partner (to avoid mating with a relative). So I suppose asari just have a natural instinct to want to travel to find a partner and when they met other species that was just the next step (kind of a big step if you ask me though).

The spacer kid has some challenges in the story telling and probably more limitations. Mindoir and Earth you can really use broad strokes but military is military ... Maybe that is why I have put off even drafting his start. It's a little narrow down that hall and I like to run around like crazy.

Yes, according to that description the asari have always been very exogamous, so breeding with aliens probably seemed "logical" to them.

Which I can sort of go along with. But on the other hand choosing a partner from another country with a different culture is one thing, choosing a partner from another planet with a different anatomy is another.

Well, the asari seem to have evolved in a way that makes them attractive to other species, so maybe they bred with other species´ even before they left their planet... Although I rather not think about that, cause as Mordin puts it: Implications unpleasent.

If Shepard doesn't pull the trigger one Squadmate will do it. In this case Liara.
I was very pleased, because I never planed on killing the VS. It kind of happened, because this is the default worst case scenario.
Thane dead, Kirrahe dead and I didn't have enough Reputation to convince Kaidan.
But we all know the truth.... Liara just wanted to eliminate the competition.

Yeah yeah I realise there's a chance he's lying, but I actually think it was true (he still obviously meant it as an insult though). It just seems like a strange thing to make up.

And judging by Liara it seems it was for the better.
