I don't think she would be much into sport in general. Though I havn't read it I think Liara is quite into sport in PMC's Thessian Whisper.

Though I would say something along the lines of dancing or figure skating, or their asari equivalent, might be more to her taste.

Thanks for the information about Canadian accents. I wasn't completely serious about my comment, but it is honestly the only difference I notice, although I mostly ever hear Canadian accents in NHL broadcasts.

I'd like to think she'd enjoy hockey, for sure. It's fast paced and is played on ice, of all things!
And it's my favourite sport. Perhaps she'd also enjoy football/soccer. Perhaps Rugby.

I'm not sure she'd enjoy baseball.

It's all too hard to say, really. Speculation and all that jazz.

Well, who doesn't like hockey?! But I am shocked that that with all this Canada talk there is no mentioning of Curling!  I suppose Liara will have a similar reaction to it as I had the first time I saw it :blink::blink:

I guess she will be interested in all kinds of sports simply because they will be vastly different to whatever she might know from Thessia.

Liara: "Why are these humans chasing a ball?"
Shep: "They are not chasing it, they are trying to score. See that goal over there? It has to go in there!"
Liara: "I understand but it looks rather unorganized and very inefficient. Why don't they use biotics?"

Chess, Go or any kind of puzzle game will be most likely something she might like...just for the challenge.

About that, since biotic abilities are omni-present in the asari do you guys think that some of the games/sports played on Thessia and other asari worlds would make use of biotics as a part of the game either being based around their use or used to enhance the game. Or might they be banned from use?

I always imagined Liara would like biotic sports (not sure what biotic sports there are though). She's a pretty powerful biotic despite not having combat experience so maybe she honed her biotic talents by playing a biotic sport, perhaps on a university team. Or maybe she liked biotic gymnastics, I'm pretty sure I heard a turian on the Citadel mention something about that in regards to his asari daughters. I don't like sport but I imagine sticking a singularity into the middle of a game like football or rugby would make it more entertaining.

Which fic was it in which Samara went skydiving with her three daughters? They'd drop from orbit and then use their biotics to guide their freefall and essentially fly in the air. I think it might have been Interstitium.

From orbit? I am not a physicist but wouldn't reentry give some problems here?

That's still frigging cold up there. But doable....has been done in the 60s. ^_^

I would think it is allowed. Sports in the asari culture has to be strongly influenced by their ability to use biotics naturaly. If you have an entire people that is inherently able to use biotics....I would assume that it also spreads into the area of sports.

What could be possible biotic sport disciplines?

I really don't see Liara as being heavily into competitive sports or anything. I can see her enjoying more strategy based games, board games, maybe even some video games, but I don't see any of it being a huge hobby of hers - at best a passing interest - because if it was something she was heavily into...well, it would've come up sometime during the series.

As far as Asari sports, I really do believe they would involve biotics heavily. It's just too ingrained into Asari society as natural. When Asari play in sports other races created though, biotic use is probably restrained or banned.

Yeah, it was an interesting scene. An excerpt:

Samara corrected her inelegant exit, twisted and dove, leaving the caternar ship and her old sister behind. It had been many decades since she'd felt reckless enough to do some biotic skydiving (and longer still to do it without the safety net of a chute), but now that she was back she felt the wind slide over her like a familiar skin. It slicked over her body as she dove, dropping like a stone towards the three black dots that were her daughters. The air caught her as it thickened, until she gave herself a biotic push and sliced downward like a meteor. It was only seconds before she'd caught up with her daughters (she didn't even need the communicator to hear the laughter over the wind) and flattened out, slowing with another gentle biotic push. The wind cushioned her like an old friend.

She sat on the air and watched her daughters play. Blue flashes filled the air as they pushed and tested their biotics. Rila and Falere bounced together and flew apart over and over again, breathless with laughter. Marihn was off to one side, her corona trailing behind her like the tail of a comet.

Their movements were unstable, undisciplined, but that was the point – biotics while free-falling were very different from biotics on the ground. There was no comforting force holding you down and correcting your mistakes. It took weightlessness to teach a biotic what gravity could do – away from the ground a reckless biotic push could send you careening away in the opposite direction. Every field had to be sent with the absolute economy of energy, with the utmost awareness for how it would affect the gravity around it.

To be a great biotic, you had to be light. Calculated. Disciplined. It took most asari centuries of practice in zero-g to learn that lesson well.

"Smaller fields, Rila!" Samara called when her two elder daughters went bouncing away again under a misplaced push. "You don't need so much strength." She went after them as demonstration, rolling in the air like she was swimming. Her fingers barely shimmered as she swept over to them, gliding with only the slightest gestures to adjust her course.

"Think of it like blowing out a candle!" Marihn called, hurtling by. She dodged and weaved through the air with more natural grace than her sisters, correcting her path as her mother had done.

The four of them fell for minutes, guiding their fall with biotic pushes. Below them, the ocean grew wider and wider, until they could see the tiny white caps on the waves and make out the forms of dozens of shallow atolls just under the water's glassy surface.

Since Thessia is largely covered in oceans, and the asaris were modelled to give an aquatic impression, I'd imagine some sort of water sport would catch her interest or just swimming in general. Maybe water sports involving biotics?

Ohh, that's a really interesting idea - I like this one. I don't have any particular ideas for how to flesh out that concept, but it's really neat.

Though I can't help but think of Blitzball now. Image IPB

They have a brain and some kind of a DNA? Same anatomy as the asari, as far as procreation goes.

Well sure there are similarities but there are some obvious differences. I can't help but think asari would be grossed out by alien reproduction.

I get what you are saying ... especially when I look at the hanar, elcor, volus. But since procreating is done with the mind and not the body that is the difference? And if breeding can be done outside of sexual stimuli that would also make me think it could happen.

But attraction by all asari? Nope, I'm right there with you. I think alot of asari would not find other species attractive but the same could be said of all the species. not every human would fall for the asari, turian, etc.

I personally do not find any of the aliens sexually attractive but I do not play me in the game ... or I would have been single until ME3 and Traynor came aboard. "Hello, sister!"

Thinking back on that scene in the bar in Illuim with the Salarian, Human and Turian each finding that Asari dancer attractive I would like to guess that Turians would be attracted to their headcrests, Salarians the colour of their skin and for Humans Asari are the closest thing to women. Also @PMC65 you really didn't find the Asari attractive:huh: I think they are beautiful, so graceful, exotic and elegant, for me they just exude sex appeal:wub:

Oh I don't know, I find all those things attractive, from skin colour to headcrest and of course their fair resemblance to human women.

I imagine asari have sports that take ages like golf or cricket, they seem like a pretty patient people what with their long life spans.

I can only read that as that he doesn't find the *other* aliens attractive. Asari are...something else! There's something very exotic and alien about them, very alluring.

I don't think I'd be able to form words in the presence of clothed Liara, I'd have no chance of making any sense in the presence of naked Liara.

Yep I pretty much agree with this. The only other kind of sports I could picture Liara having an interest in would be gymnastics or swimming. I would love to see her challenge Samantha at a game of chess, although Liara's bloodrage might be unleashed if she loses ha!

CrimsonN7 - I'm not sexually interested in the asari but I do find them as a species interesting. If I had met Liara she would have made me smile and probably laugh when she got tongue-tied but we would have just been friends. Which is probably a good thing since EW Shepard would not be too impressed with me.

Aw cats playing chess, so cute. Liara would have to be more a cat person than a dog person. As for Liara playing chess, I think any asari would find the notion of the king being the most important piece strange.

Dang it.  Still haven't figured out how to do pics for the forums.

So, here's Liara with GLASSES!

She does keep fish at her apartment on Ilium, and I like to imagine that those fish in Shepard's aquarium belong to both of them.

Liara and pyjaks though does not go well together.
