Yeah, the Asari mind meld is definitely an *Asari* trait, even if it's linked to their biotics. The biotics are basically only part of it at best.

I agree that it is linked to Asari physiology. But I've grown to understand it as more similar to Javik's ability to convey and read thoughts by touching you, that Morinth was doing and technically seperate from biotics. Mostly because of the codex mentioning that biotics cant read minds and such.

And about Asari head crests:

I had the idea that their crests could act kinda like how our ears do to cool blood by their increased surface area. Or perhaps it also has rows of element zero nodes along each "tenticle". And also I thought that perhaps the channels inbetween each would help to channel sweat away from the eyes..if they sweat (since they have no eyebrows). Wich Im guessing they would, as its the most effective way to remove heat that I can think of, and they are one of the more advanced races.

Actually the codex only states that human biotics face discrimination based on the popular misconception that they can read or control minds. Morinth's demonstrated biotic ability to dominate minds doesn't conflict with the codex, because any Asari biotic abilities that enabled them to get into another person's head would still be deeply linked to their physiology. A Turian or Human, theoretically, shouldn't be able to mimic it.

I say theoretically because Shepard can learn any squadmate ability as a bonus ability, including dominate. Yay for Cerberus imlanting Reaper tech in Shepard I guess.

I've heard rumors but never been able to find a Liara T'soni keychain. Am I just wasting my time or does this exist? Seems like a good idea!

I would love one but I've never seen or heard of one. It's exactly the kind of thing I'd want, because most clothing and such I see with her on it is too blatant, I prefer smaller references, more subtle things.

If you find any, please post them.

[OFF TOPIC] Just thinking who would you guys/gals put as the most powerful biotic we have come across in the Mass Effect series? Excluding a biotic Shepard. This is who I think, but feel free to disagree, anyway:

My guess would be:

1. Samara/Aria (I'm undecided here)
2. Matriarch Benezia
3. Javik
4. Jack
5. Mornith
6. Liara
7. Kaidan
8. Miranda
9. Wrex
10. Thane

I don't know whether or not to put Matriarch Aethyta in as we've never seen her in action.

And least I forget an honourable mention to this charming fellow:D

I don't even think a biotic Shepard would be in the top 5, personally. Shepard is obviously king or queen of bad@ssery, but that rests more on his or her leadership ability and overall combat ability. If we just look at biotic ability alone I think there are plenty of people who are more powerful.

At any rate, this would be my top 5:

1. Samara - Recruited specifically for her biotic abilities in ME2. It is mentioned that she is as poweful as a matriarch.

2. Matriarch Benezia - Fairly easy to beat in gameplay, but as far as story goes she is supposed to be an extremely poweful biotic. I'd rank her above Liara based on age and experience, but probably below Samara.

3. Liara - Good genetics. She's the daughter of two powerful Asari matriarchs.

4. Jack - Like Samara she was recruited specifically for her biotic abilities in ME2. I would rank her below Samara and Liara however, because she is only the most powerful human biotic and humans are less biotically adept than Asari generally.

5. Aria - Just a guess as we never get a glimpse of her abilities.

I think what Jebel Krong is saying is quite reasonable. I don't expect any ME movie to be good, but it's not out of the realm of possibility, certainly. Hey, I can always wish Joss Whedon would write and direct it...

unfortunately Joss would probably kill off Liara,  since she is the most lovable character in ME.  As much as i love Joss he has a habit of killing the lovable good guy characters in his projects

I kind of disagree with that, too…although, yes, the Codex is a big thing, the first ME game still starts you off pretty much blind and explains everything you need to know along the way.

But Mass Effect is a very long game. The Codex reading is balanced out by the amount of other things you end up doing. A movie only lasts between 1,5/ 3 hours if we really push it. Is that really enough to learn to care about the setting the movie would play out in?

Also, hello everyone! I haven't posted here before. :3

we can always make the ME movie 4hours long like Gods and Generals.  I went with my dad to see that when it came out and God it was the longest movie ever

edit:  and welcome Fox in the box :D,   and you should all know that I'm being slightly sarcastic here I wouldn't advocate a 4hr. long ME movie based on the games,  I just wish that they would adapt one of Drew's novels or do something else about a young anderson in the movie

No kidding. I liked Firefly and all but I really wouldn't want him doing an ME production. He LOVES killing characters.

yeah i wasn't kidding about that,  I love Whedon's stuff, I loved Buffy, loved Firefly, loved Serenity,  Angel was ok.  But it doesn't seem like he can help killing off that one character that always comes across as the loveable, you can't help but like them type, and IMO in ME that would be the cute geeky Liara.   I mean i went into Avenger's completely expecting to see Colson get shafted i just didn't know when in the movie it would happen.

Shep is carrying Liara away. Her legs are falling in frotnt of Shep and her shoulders and head are facing the shot. Those are Liara's crests and her shoulders and arm in view on the right. Her other arm seems to be held by Shep..

Although i like most of the character placement how come Kaiden "Buddha"  Alenko is on the renegade side?

Edit:  on the brightside these were the first time i've seen these, thanks for posting PMC, plus the holy trinity is right next to shepard (Garrus, Liara, and Tali no idea what that human is doing near them though:P),

But AFAIK there is zero mention of biotics being able to manipulate people's minds in the codex or story

Morinth can dominate Shepard's mind in Samara's recruitment mission as well, if Shepard has a low paragon or renegade score. She'll be on the verge of killing Shepard when Samara is forced to intervene and save him/her.

So the biotic intrusion into someone's mind isn't just a feature of gameplay, but is also featured in the story.

As I recall there are zero biotic flaring in that scene when Morinth tries to mind control Shepard, which is what her dominate ability is represented as in cutscene IMO.

Sorry, I see no evidence that asari mind-melding is another form of biotic ability.

According to the wikia, the Asari method of reproduction is the reason why they are so naturally talented at biotics, as "their evolved ability to consciously control nerve impulses is very similar to biotic training." Not sure how much it can be trusted though. If it can be, it seems to imply that mind-meldig is not strictly a biotic ability, but that the mechanisms for both are similar.

No. Just no. :pinched:

But you could design your own and have it made by someone, lots of people are happy to do custom works.

Posting from an iPod is an interesting experience.

Regarding the "Shep carries Liara" pic. isn't that a rendered version of magicalzebras pic?

If I could access my imageshack I would post it but I can't so feel free to do so!

I would say that if they're related at all, it's coincidence.
Biotics have eezo nodules throughout their bodies, and in order to effectively use them, you learn to manipulate electric currents in your nervous system.
In melding, it's stated that Asari "consciously attunes her nervous system to her partner's, sending and
receiving electrical impulses directly through the skin. ... Effectively, the asari and her partner briefly become
one unified nervous system"

The common link is manipulating the nervous system, not biotic abilities. The biotic training likely helps them improve their melding abilities, and their melding likely helps improve their biotic abilities(to a degree, possibly), simply because it's practice in manipulating their nervous system.

I highly doubt melding is a biotic ability, or directly related to biotic abilities. They very likely had the ability to meld prior to the Protheans engineering them to be biotics. It's likely they utilized the Asari for these experiments due to how similar their control over their melding was in comparison to a biotic's control over their abilities. If anything Javik said is true, the protheans were practical and results-oriented. Would make sense.

If their biotic ability was engineered by the Protheans, you're probably right. They must have had their mind-melding reproduction long before they bumped into the Protheans, after all.

Someone has a good Mass Effect 1 Liara's fan art or drawing?
It's just, and I think most of you guys will agree with me, in my opinion in Mass Effect 1 Liara was visually the most beautiful. She was bright blue, her freckles were alot more clear on her face, and her lips were like bright pink. She was amazing. Not saying she wasn't amazing in ME1 and 2.
My mother is a profssional drawer, and I asked her if she could draw a picture of Liara with Shepard for me. When she will finish the drawing I will upload it to Deviantart and to this thread. It will be a very good, full oil colored drawing I promise you. My mother is a skilled drawer, you won't be disappointed.
I'll let you guys know when it will be close to be finished. Heads up!

Actually, I think that the graphics detail of ME3 really brings out the more alien side of her - especially her skin. You can see that it is different - it is much more scaly, and in my opinion she's the most beautiful in the third game because of similar details that the engine allows the game to show.

But as far as fan art goes, I love this ME1 one of her, since you asked for one:

Unfortunately, I am not able to do any fan art or drawings myself as I don't have any skill in that area.

@Theodoro, oh wow, this picture is absolutley beautiful (sorry I can't quote because I'm typing from my cellphone.) The artist did an excellent job. He hit all the facial details on the spot, and her facial expression is amazing. He also did an excellent job on the cloths, they look exactly like her dress from ME1. I love it.
And I agree with you, she does look alot more alien-ish. Her skin type is alot more scaley, making her look less like an alien. She also has much darker skin, which I less like about her.
Thanks for uploading!
