Both the IT and the game can be explained by bad writing and design. That's all.
A lot of stuff can be "proven" one way or the other, but in the end you could always say it was just done badly.
-

As I've said before, Aristobulus dream idea is great. Powerful and meaningful instead of ruining the mood by chasing some unknown kid that you don't care about at all.

True.... But, I don't want to get into another IT debate. This thread is sort of a safe haven from it for me.

Apparently the OP of the current disguised anti-Liara thread doesn't appreciate me challenging them....

While I have nothing against the IT, some of the threads that "prove" it lately are laughable. There's a detailed analysis of the M-6 Carnifex gun Shepard holds during the finale and how it changes to the M-3 Predator when he/she shoots at the Destroy tubes - and that, of course, is immediately evidence that it's IT.

But enough of the IT - as MidnightRaith said, we should keep this thread safe from indoctrination. Have a Liara instead.

IT has its charme...and some of the things people came up with sounds believable...but when it comes to the nitpicking that you mention it gets a bit too much. That is too much credit towards Bioware....they were not that ingenious to include such small details only to transport IT....that was just rushed and poorly programmed. Recycling of images, scenes, and body models....usage of "standard" weapons in cut scenes....it's a way to save money and time...nothing more.

Claiming that the tiniest detail is the proof for IT is just a last attempt at grasping at straws. I admit that some of the bigger things in the ending can be used to argue in favor of IT but these small things (writing on walls, OMG all the bodies on the citadel have Ashley's armor, etc) are just that: small things that have been overlooked by quality control or have been implemented to save time and money. I would guess the latter makes the most sense.

I can understand that people are trying to make some sense of the ending scenes and all...hell, by now I would even welcome any solution that is not the current ending....but in the end I think we just have to accept that Bioware did a lame rush-job with the game and the ending. nothing is going to change that <_<

Wow, I leave the thread for a few days and you people are talking about IT?

Son, I am disappoint.

Anyway, favorite scene with Liara;
"Pay me what you owe, or I will flay you alive.... WITH MY MIND!"

I had to pause for a second when she said that... and Ali Hillis' voice was SO sexy there. I nearly fainted.

Even though the scene before Cronos Station, the London Gift scene, and the one after the defeat of the Shadow Broker are all really strong contenders for that position, I'll have to say the time capsule scene. I'll quote myself from before:

[quote]Theodoro wrote...
The time capsule is easily the most beautiful scene with Liara. While one of the functions of the device is to preserve the memory of Shepard and it seems to be the main topic of the scene, I believe that it was written mostly for Liara. Her care, consideration and devotion that compelled her to work on the time capsule for so long and the love with which she does it and the excitement of the prospect of showing it to Shepard really speaks more than words can about what kind of a person she is. If there is one scene that really reaffirms why I think Liara is so incredible, it's this one. It was written beautifully. My only gripe is that it should have been a tad different if Liara is Shepard's love interest, specifically the end of the scene when they talk about being good friends. But I can overlook that.

Ignore the Liara hate. They're all just jealous because Liara is the best and most fleshed out squadmember in ME and has the best romance.^_^

Question for the Liara fans: What was your favorite scene with Liara in the series, and why?

I think my favourite would be either the pre-Chronos Love scene (from Liara walks in up to and including post-nightmare) or the LotSB just after the Broker and the Cabin scene.

I just love the scene after the Shaodw Broker where Liara finally really opens up to Shepard again and the cabin scene both of which are phenomenal and incredibly emotional, especially in contrast to everything that has been going on up until that point, it is excpetionally brilliant.

But I also love the Chronos Love scene as they each show how much they love the other. The finger intertwining and the kiss are also amazingly animated and I really adore where Liara is sleeping besides Shepard and their behaviour towards each other. That scene really is amazing.

That being said the other scenes including the gift and timecapsule scenes are incredibly marvellous as well, as is the love scene from ME1 and some of the smaller ones like the "flatterer" and "I knew it was really you the fist time I touched you again" scenes.

Okay I give up Posted Image picking one favourite scene is hopeless I so love so many of Liara's scenes Posted Image. While there has been an amazing job with her scenes in general LotSB and ME3 really had some truly spectacular scenes with Liara.

Very hard question for me, but, if I had to choose one scene from the entire trilogy that defines Liara for me, a scene that is impossible for me to be bored from watching it, is the romance scene from ME3. I'll explain.
This scene shows Liara in a perfect way in my opinion. It is emotional, has beautifully sad music, has very good dialogues, the theme and atmosphere of the scene is really sad but still very loving, the sex scene itself is amazing, and the way Liara is talking in Shepard responding to her with such love and careness for each other is amazing in my opinion. It has lines that I will remember forever and I think after some lines said by the G-Man from Half Life 1 these are my favorite quotes from all the video games I have ever played.
'Do you feel ready, Shepard?'
'How do you get ready for something like this?

'The Reaprs won't get anymore chances to divide us. This time, the galaxy follows our lead'.
And of course, my favorite from the entire trilogy:

'It would be easy for a single ship to get lost up there, wouldn't it?'
'Yeah, it would'
To find someplace very far away, where you can spend the rest of your life in peace, and happines'
I have to say, I'm a grown up man, but everytime I hear these words, my eyes are filled with tears.
For me, the music does 40% of the scene's brilliantness(?). I am literally speachless from the music. It is so amazingly beautiful and sad. So beautiful, that it is the reason why I started playing the piano, and why I bought the game's soundtrack.
The scene shows our beautiful and amazing Liara, the theme of the scene is sad but still happy. You can feel the love between Shepard and Liara in the air. The lines are brilliant, and the sex scene is very well done.
This scene, defines Liara and her romance for me.
But still, the competition for this title is very difficult. There's also ME1's romance scene with is amazing and shows how Liara has changed from the beggining, despite her shyness and her innocent, in my opinion. There is also the 'romance scene' in LotSB, which was also very emotional and beautiful. There is also the goodbye scene from ME3, which was also amazing and makes me shed some tears everytime. But still, the romance scene from ME3 beats everything. Bioware did an amazing job with this scene. Absolutley beautiful. Hands down.

Also this. You really said everything I think of that scene. If I had to rate the scenes, this would have been number 2 on my list. Absolutley beautiful and emotional.

Favorite scene will always be Liara with her mother on Noveria. It's when she finally came alive for me in her defiance, confusion, pleading and hurting. It felt that the veil was taken down, the real Liara ... a daughter ... was revealed and it made me sad that I (not Shepard) never got to see who Benezia and Liara really were in better days.

PMC! :D  *hugs!*

And yes, that tugged at the heart strings and we got a chance to see Liara and Nezzie say good bye as parent and child instead of opposing combatants.

I would name LotSB, but it's not fair to name the entirety of LotSB, which is what I want to do, because really LotSB is amazing as an arc for Liara, seeing Shep/Liara work through their issues and reconcile at the end after all the build up is amazing. To pick just one scene from LotSB is to devalue and overlook the importance of the rest, so I'm not gonna do that.

So instead I'll just say the pre-Cronos station scene in ME3 - it's also a great scene for all the buildup Liara/Shep have had - finally they get some times to themselves, and unlike ME1, there's no awkwardness between them. Just pure love, and total confidence in their feelings for eachother, and to top it off, hearing Liara finally just profess her love for Shepard, and so confidently too, is just amazing. And of course, to have Shepard reciprocate.

And has been pointed out, the animation work in the scene is amazing too. Just the way Liara moves about the scene - fiddles with Shep's helmet, carefully puts it down, the way they hold hands and kiss eachother - and just the general way they regard eachother. And of course, the sex scene itself - all of these is just very tasteful and powerful. Very emotionally charged.

I think with that post you summed up perfectly why that is also my favorite scene. If there is any scene in the series that defines who Liara is as a character, it is that one.

In that one scene you both get a sense of Liara's intelligence in being able to create the time capsules and in preparing for every possible outcome, and of how caring a person she is in creating what was in effect a eulogy for either a lover or a friend, so that even if they did fail Shepard wouldn't be forgotten.

It isn't anything I haven't said before, but I think it was easily one of the most moving scenes in the entire series. The only thing that rivals it in my opinion, is reciting that prayer with Kolyat while Thane lies on his deathbed, and then having it revealed that the prayer was actually for Shepard.

One of the things I've always liked about Liara, is that their relationship has always seemed like a two-way street. With some of the other LIs it occasionally seems like Shepard is the rock they lean on, whereas with Liara she is also always there to comfort him when he's having private doubts or fears. Part of the beauty of those type of scenes is that isn't just about who Liara is as a character, but serves to make Shepard feel more like a real life flesh and blood person.

I agree, the animation work there was outstanding.

So much emotion was conveyed with just the subtle looks on both character's faces. While that sort of thing might be common with the best actors on film, you don't see it often in video games.

Really? So when kai leng was about to stab shepard you didn't chose the renegade interrupt or when you are on thearchives you didn't tell the Ilusive Man to go to hell and thats coming from a paragon. Also i ended up choosing the paragon choice what happens if i choose "lets enjoy ourselves"

I am pretty sure he means he always takes the the paragon option when Liara says that she loves Shepard rather than taking the paragon option in every conversation.

I also always say "I love you too Liara" not only is it far more appropriate for my Shepard but I have been waiting for the oppotunity to say that since ME1 Posted Image.

I did use the Renegade interruption on Kai Leng, as well as Khalissa the reporter :)

Well i have never done renegade i prefer paragon. I used the renegade interrupt on kai leng because i though if i didn't choose the interrupt he was going to kill me. The irony he gets stabbed the same way he stabs Thane and i liked when shepard said that was for Thane. You didn't posted Liara pictures.
