So when the virgin option came up, I picked it and loved how she almost laughs at Shepard and says something about it not working like that for asari. Thank Bacchus! If Bioware had locked her in and had her say, "Oh, yes Commander ... I am a virgin ... you will be my first in everything! Weeeeeeee!" EW Shepard would have walked out and hooked up with Kaidan.

The only thing about that subject I can remember she says is that she has never really thought it up untill then.

No love for virgins eh, everybody's gotta lose it sometime:D Kidding, but in all seriousness I agree with Aristo, Liara is relatively young in Asari terms, it is not hard to imagine that she was a virgin when Shep meet her. The way she described the union as a truly life altering experience rather than just sex, Liara wasn't going to give up something so personal to just anybody.
I dunno I found it rather endearing how she stumbled round the fact that she never joined with anyone before. Even if Shepard could detach himself/herself from the emotions that come with something as intimate as sex, if Shepard just approached it as a way to relieve tension I couldn't picture Liara going into a union without any strong emotional connection, sex without love for her wouldn't work. Perhaps it is easier to mask these issues in a non asari union to an extent, but when joined it would be very difficult to hid these feelings and thoughts. I also liked how forward she became when she went to Shep's cabin before Ilos, so much for being shy eh:wub: Shepard and Liara really just fit perfectly as a couple in my opinion compared to the other love interests, I also think it's really sweet that Shepard is Liara's first, and popping her cherry to the Saviour of the Citadel, that's a good first, Liara choose well, smart girl:P
@PMC65, Kaidan, girl please, good thing you saw the light, how could you say no to that face, when she's knocking down your door for some alone time?

Overall I think she's got the best written romance arc in the series.
That isn't to say it isn't without flaws however, just that I think it is the best of the bunch. I didn't like that in ME3 that Liara still refers to Shepard as a friend, though I can come up with head canon to explain it. I
I'll probably get flamed for saying this, but I also wasn't a big fan of the reveal in Mass Effect 1 that Liara is a virgin. Just about every Bioware RPG that has characters that are romanceable by the protagonist, has at least one that is shy and virginal. Mass Effect has two. Meh...I'd rather Bioware gave characters who are supposed to be adult women life experiences that most adult women have.
Well, according to Liara she´s barely an adult by asari standards.

sorry i normally put full fleshed out thoughts in italics eg.) Tiberius thought She has the most beautiful eyes, in order to differentiate from actual spoken dialogue. thoughts that weren't fully formed act more like description and don't get any special treatment like that. Its just how i learned from reading and some creative writing teachers
I learned that the hard way the first time I posted a fic from openoffice to DA, all the formatting went haywire and the italics got lost. I spend a long time checking formatting now, tagging bold/underlined/italics etc. Getting a four-parter up there was hellish, was such a relief that the latest fluff piece only took about 5 minutes to check and upload [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]
I enjoyed your latest, my own bugbear (sorry) was the punctuation. Commas migrating from where they should be to where they shouldn't, here and there. Nice to see the start for Tib and Liara, I really should do my own version of Therum for Kira [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]
Thanks I'm glad you liked it, and sorry about the comma's it's something I've never been that good at and even though i've gotten better it's still my writing nemesis

Well, according to Liara she´s barely an adult by asari standards.
Asari seem to reach adulthood somewhere between about 40 and 60 years old. We aren't told in game when exactly an Asari is legally considered an adult, but we can guess that it is somewhere between those years since Morinth ran away from home in her 40s, and the girl looking to join Eclipse on Illium says something about being 60 years old and finally out from under her mother's roof. Also of course we know that Liara worked as an archaeologist for 50 years prior to Mass Effect 1, when she was 106. That would make Liara 56 at the time she first got started in her career.
So while she is still very young adult by Asari standards she isn't quite as young as Tali, who was still a teenager in Mass Effect 1. While it is a bit hard to compare the Asari life stages to human ones, I think 106 in Asari years seem to be roughly equivalent to a human in their early to mid twenties. She certainly wasn't too young to have had prior partners, so lack of them would then have to be due to either to a conscious choice on her part, or circumstances working against her.
While I wasn't a big fan of the virgin reveal, I do think it is plausible at least for the reasons Aristobulus stated.
Also while I like the more 'womanly' Liara of LotSB and ME3 than the more girlish version in Mass Effect 1 (to be clear, I'm talking the whole picture here and not just sexual experience), I do wish Liara had some more dialogue about her past. Did she date other Asari while at university, but break it off before it got too serious for fear of being in a relationship that could potentially produce a child that would face the same ridicule as she did, for being a pureblood? Or did the stigma of her own pureblood background make her a poor prospect as far as her classmates were concerned? I can see ether one serving to prevent or submarine relationships before they got very far.

Again, this all comes back to what a missed opportunity Thessia was - it just - we could've gotten to explore places from her past, there. Explored the college she went to, and gotten scenes/dialogue where she talked about it, especially for an LI. There really was an opportunity!
Ugh.

One of the cities on Thessia should have been a visitable hub early in the game, especially since in ME3 there is only one visitible hub (The Citadel) whereas ME2 had Omega, Illium, and a smaller version of the Citadel. The player would spent a good portion of the game running missions out of there (just like Omega or Illium in ME2) and hopefully gettng attached to the setting and the characters who populate it, only to come back later as the Reapers are destroying it all.
It would have given the Priority: Thessia mission more emotional impact.

Don't forget that most asari don't think of sex as other races do. She tells you the reason why that is so. For them, that is something special that changes their lives, and the reason for that is their ability to join with their partners. And it's not like Liara's wanted to do that all her life. She says that she hasn't even thought about it before meeting Shepard. He/she's the first person that sparks that interest and desire in her. As I said, that makes the romance arc even more special, and puts an emphasis on the importance of asari joining and how it's not something done lightly as opposed to casual sex.

Agreed there. I also wanted to learn more about the time she spent with Benezia and what kind of mother she was to her. We do get a bit of information about that, but it's something that I wish was explored further.

About the whole paragon/renegade thing. Id have to define myself as a Paragade. I pick most of the Paragon choises because Im trying to play a mature leader of a team, am a bit altruistic and want to help people, and is a nice person most of the time. But sometimes some things just make my Shepard snap, and he would pick the renegade line. For example I love the line with Liara when first discussing her father, "I never get to tell you anything", and I also think punching Admiral Garrell to be appropriate.

I really do think she goes good with that particular shade of purple. I would get purple sheets on Shepard's bed if I could;P. Also Asari blood is violet in color...somehow im reminded of it, and it makes it more passionate, since the color of passion for humans is typically red. So I thought that might work that way for Asari in their history and how they might perceive colors, but who knows;P
And dagnammit Liara and Shepard could use some time in a nice hottub like that, after all they've been through.
Edit: The Background is supposed to be Illium
Annnd...why not include a nice picture of Ali Hillis, who brought our favorite character to life;P
