damn for some reason it didn't come up on my screen till i hit quote.  But that looks very classic hollywood sexy.  and...and... well i can see more than one reason why they chose her to voice Liara.  She does have very striking blue eyes just like somebody else this thread reveres

edit:  gonna drop some more self promotion for my latest fic in here before i head off to sleep,  I'll put part two up tomorrow night

Suddenly I had the weird thought of what Liara might look like with Red lipstick like most women tend to wear. It might stand out too much on her :)

Congrats!

Just out of curiosity are you relatively new to Mass Effect 1, or revisiting an old game?

Nah, my 360 got RROD so I'm starting the entire series over on PC because I refuse to play ME3 without an import....

I think a darker shade of blue or a light purple would look good on her but nothing to striking or flashy like the sharp or deep reds that humans tend to wear

I was gonna say - the same artist made a 2nd version of this, too. But I got beaten to the punch.

It's kindof old, since it's Illium it's from the ME2 days, and it looks like it might just be one of those "paint a model blue and 'shop Liara's head on" kind of things, but it's really well done even if it is. Like, there's no obvious crease where Liara was shopped on and the tint job on the skin, if that's what it is, is also well done to where it's not obvious.

And it's just - it's a peaceful scene. I like it, and it's fitting to her character too. I, personally, really do think Liara - and other Asari - would relax after a lot of stress, with something just like that. Liara especially probably had access to a tub with a view like that, and since Asari are rather lax about sexuality, I don't think her being naked is really a problem. I'm honestly not sure if Asari even have swimsuits traditionally.

Really, I just like that it's rather tasteful. She's posing, but not overdoing it, it's a mix between an artistic pose and just gracefully disrobing. And she just looks really calm and at peace there.

The view of the city, is nice too. Always appreciate the extra effort when artists bother to actually create a scene rather than just pasting characters onto a black void or something.

It wouldn't mesh with her skin color. The best lipstick Liara ever had was in LotSB, where it was a darker blue. The purple she's got on in ME3 really fits her skin tone well, too, though.

Played some FFXIII the other day. Ali Hillis is... I think she's my absolute favorite voice actress. David Hayter would be my favorite male VA.

Humm..that is an interesting idea about Asari not using swimsuits. I mean swimsuits seem to be mostly about modesty in concept. But Asari being ALL female wouldent nessisarily see a difference to hide from eachother like dual gendered species might while naked. There would be no motivation to "cover up", or at least much less then among typical human socital norms.

Not into virgins so when she started talking about never "melding" with anyone else I rolled my eyes and thought ... Yep, Kaidan you are my man.

So when the virgin option came up, I picked it and loved how she almost laughs at Shepard and says something about it not working like that for asari. Thank Bacchus! If Bioware had locked her in and had her say, "Oh, yes Commander ... I am a virgin ... you will be my first in everything! Weeeeeeee!" EW Shepard would have walked out and hooked up with Kaidan.

When did she says that? Can you say the line?

The virgin option comes when she brings up melding and how she has never done it. I've always felt that melding and physical sex were two different things to the asari. That is why they can be so sexually free and yet Liara says that others misunderstand them ... calling them loose if you will.

In my headcanon, that's because for them melding is what is really important while physical pleasure is no more than a good meal, good night's rest. It's pleasure and nothing more. So for me, Liara was not a virgin ... she had prior lovers. She had just never taken that step of melding. That was where Shepard was her first. She had never met anyone that she wanted to experience that with until our hero appeared.

I even wish that Bioware had not made Shepard her first there as well. Liara should have been a matron and fully experienced in life since Shepard is not a kid but almost breaking 30 in Mass Effect. Maybe that's why I thought Samara, Miranda and Ash were yummy ... Experienced women are pleasing. But some peeps love the virgins.

Exactly. And it's said that Asari...aren't as hung up about sexuality as humans are. I think things like Asari just having either less, or no, nudity taboo, and just traditionally not wearing things like swimsuits, just makes sense if we accept that attitude and outlook.

Asari also just seem much less ashamed of themselves, so again more reason it just makes sense. As you say, swimsuits and such are born out of a sense of shame and modesty, that you're "indecent" if you're naked, and it's not clear that the Asari share that view.

It's also something Rae theorizes in her "Can Wait" series but it's something I've considered even before I read that.

Edit - PMC I think you just wanted an Asari other than Liara. None of what you're asking for makes sense given her history and character. She's way too young and introverted to fit the personality you're asking for.

It's fine for say, Samara, though. Or Aria, or etc.

Though I'll say I'm fine with the idea that Asari treat physical sex differently than they do actually mind melding with someone, and especially on deep intimate levels - because clearly there's a difference between melding to share the cipher and melding during sex as or during the gift scene, as Liara/Shep do.

I don't - why try to twist Liara into something she's not though? There's absolutely nothing wrong with saying you'd prefer some other Asari to her. Why not just do that?

Because when you say "I'd like Liara better if she was more outgoing and extroverted and not a virgin and also atleast a matron" you're not really talking about Liara anymore.

And that's okay! You seem to be scared to admit you would honestly just prefer some other Asari to Liara. I don't know why that is.

Make up your own Asari character! Give her that ideal personality and history! Say to people "this would be my ideal ME character/Asari"! Go nuts! Could be interesting, even!

RE: virgin Liara.

She's shy, reserved, spends lots of time alone, a little socially awkward, so it's not that surprising that she was a virgin. Sex isn't the main driver for everyone. And it was handled well enough. There was no 'oh please be gentle with me' or anything like that.

RE: rene/para

I found one of the most satisfying para/rene actions was al-Jilani. In ME3, her voice is almost breaking as she asks about what is happening on Earth and all the people dying. She's scared. For everyone. Rather than punching her in the face like a sociopath, Shep comforts her. Jilani ends by thanking her and offering what support she can. I personally thought that was quite beautiful.

I also cook a bit because my ex-girlfriend (she's an ex now) wanted me to learn how to cook so I won't always have to rely on her..

I'm ok with Liara being a virgin or not. It's her character and her eyes and her ... bla bla bla I could go on all day... that make me like her.

But in my own headcanon story about my Shep and Liara both are virgins. My Spacer Shep has some problems when she was young and that make her a workaholic. She used to hate the feeling of attachment. It seems unlikely that a 29 years old woman is a virgin but everyone has their own story, right? I guess I painted my Shep with my country's culture.

Mary Sue or not it is my Shep story. I enjoys others' story too. It's not a problem to me if their head canon is different from mine.

I plan to write down my head canon into a fanfic someday. It would be funny and awkward. Haha

What's really interesting about the asari is how remarkably their bodies resemble human womens, for an alien species who would have been in existance lightyears before life on earth even emerged from the primordial ooze. Perhaps they were designed that way due to being monogendered, able to impregnate and become pregnant.

I somewhat agree with this. I don’t agree with all the particulars you ascribe to Liara, but at some point it makes more sense to just admit it’s actually a different person.

But, AUs and headcanon, so…

I don't think Mary Sue has anything to do with virginity.

"Mary Sue is a fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as a wish-fulfilment fantasy for the author or reader."
A 29 years old virgin seems like a Mary Sue in Western culture in my POV. But I only know Western culture through movies, games, stories so I'm not sure. Or maybe because I don't understand the term "Mary Sue". My point is my Shep could look fake in others' eyes but I don't care much about it.

Well, I'm a 22 year old virgin. It's not that far-fetched. Mary Sues, in general, are made out to be so "cool" and "special" to the point where they become really obnoxious, and even if they do have character flaws they are usually made endearing (clumsiness and freckles are popular). Everything revolves around them. They are always right, and everyone likes them, and those who don't are very often portrayed in a not-so-flattering light.

Sadly, Mary Sue is a term that is used very loosely and incorrectly these days. Just try to make your Shepard seem like an actual person, and you'll be alright.
