Consider that Shepard is 2 for 2 in Asari characters who've melded with him wanting to have a relationship with him afterwards. (Shiala being the other Asari)

I felt bad for Shiala during her little cameo in ME2, she seemed so lonely. I guess surviving can be it's own death sentence. Though it would have been great to have her around some more, her whole Thorian terminal illness thing could have been really interesting. The thing that's killing her body is saving her mind.

Plus her voice actress is utterly enchanting and ME3 really needs another Sentinel character if you don't have Kaidan around, they doubled us up on Soldiers (the least useful squadmates) but not Sentinels? You can't explain that!

This is news to me that the surviros at Zhu's Hope has a terminal disease due to the Thorian spores. Image IPB Where is it mentioned? I was kinda hoping to see Shiala in ME 3. Too bad.

That's odd.  In my playthrough, the Zho's Hope people became a war asset and were able to work together because of the... neural net, I guess you could call it, as s single cohesive unit.

Odd.

In Shiala's ME3 email, she mentions that the Thorian spores have not only destroyed her Biotic abilities but they're killing her body. She believes she won't live much longer not just because of the spores but she also thinks she might still be indoctrinated and the lingering remnants of the Thorian control is all that keeps her from giving into the whispers of the Reapers in her mind.

This is what happened for me, too. Maybe that darker version is what happens if you save her, but don't actually save the Zhu's Hope colonists?

It could also be reflected on whether you helped her or not in ME2, I think.  Just guessing here.

I dunno it's been a while since I played the singleplayer game due to the horrid endings so maybe my memory is slightly off, but I thought she made it perfectly clear the link between the colonists was very dangerous to them and she herself was indoctrinated still. Only the control of the spores was keeping her from giving into the Reapers.

Here's the only email I could find with a quick search:

From: Shiala

Dear Commander Shepard:

I don't know if you've seen the articles, but the people of Zhu's Hope are fighting again. This time it's the Reapers instead of the geth.

I'm not sure if you remember me, but you helped me back on lllium. The Thorian is dead now. I can confirm that. But the spores in our bodies remain, and on some level, we are still connected.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. As we fight back the Reapers, we feel each other, and act with one mind, ignoring pain when the need arises. I'm sure I'm still indoctrinated. I remember Sovereign's voice in my mind when I went willingly to the Thorian as its thrall. But my connection to the people of Zhu's Hope is stronger. It drowns out the Reaper voices.

This situation is imperfect, and dangerous. Perhaps the colonists should separate, for their own safety. But with one mind, the untrained fight with the skill of veteran commandos. Our force is strong.

I have not forgotten how you helped us, how you spared me. We are leaving Feros soon, and when the time comes, we will fight with you.

Shiala

This is the same email I got. Nowhere did it mention that they had terminal disease, just that they were still linked due to the spores. I got the Zhu's Hope colonoists as war asset so I don't think they died from the disease. More likely from giant black squids. Image IPB

Yuqi - I have tried to play it before and just could not get into it. I'm not really into the fantasy, dragon, elves, etc. But thought I'd try just one more time. We will see.

So everyone you know liked it, huh? Opposite here. I'm okay with others loving or liking it though ... it's all personal taste. I'm just bummed that it left me unable to replay the game. Or ME1 or ME2.

Maybe at some point down the road I'll throw it back in but if not ... life goes on and it is just a video game at the end of the day. Life has much bigger joys and sadness then Bioware's Mass Effect universe. Thankfully.

Ahh I see, not a medival fantasy fan, huh? Fair enough. Though I'm not really big into sci-fi but I like Mass-Effect, so who knows maybe you'll like Dragon Age.

So i'm replaying through ME right now to get a refresher on the post Therum debriefing for my fic and i just noticed a reason to kill Kaiden.   When you go by the mass relay statue on the citadel and talk to him he asks if anyone hears a hum....  he's being slowly indoctrinated *gasp the horror*:o

Smile and nod, and open that scotch bottle.  Since ME3 came out - theres been a mass shortage of Salt, Straws, and decent alcohol for some reason.  And a lot of collected displays of shiny balls of turd.
Does anyone else have a vision from princess bride of that guy (Vizzini?) screaming "inconceivable!" every time you see or hear the word indoctrinatation or alternate form of the word indoctrinate...?
Also: PMC (AHA! Take that fast typing, typo prone fingers!  C will not lead the M this time!). Sten and Morrigan Banter... has its humorous moments.  Shame they didn't have more dialogue between those two.

To be fair, that's not really fantasy. Fantasy is anything you can make up in your head. The possibilities are limitless. It's actually a shame that "Fantasy" means "Lord of the Rings rip-off" nowadays.

Fantasy is basically the genre where you create a whole new world, a new "reality" sort of speak (you know, with detailed history, mythologi etc. etc.).
So, yes, technically a story doesn´t have to contain elves, dragons, magic and whatnot to be categorized as fantasy.
But as you pointed out; most people today view fantasy stories as being something akin to Tolkien´s works. But that isn´t too unsurprising though since he is quoted as being one of the "founders" of the genre.

I am all for Intox. Theory :P Screw you 9 o'clock in the morning thing....*takes out the hard liquor*...that will make this grey and rainy day much nicer!

And yeah.....Aethyta's facial surgery and lift job did bother me quite a bit. I just didn't recognize her anymore. It's one thing buffing up boobs and butts but these drastic facial changes were a bit much (Aethyta and Ashley especially). I mean, Liara's face changed quite a bit from ME1 to ME2 and then LotSB but at least she was always recognizable as being just Liara and you could justify it by her background story (mourning, etc). So loosing some of her rounder facial features was just alright....

Aethyta looked just like a generic asari...one of those that could easily be put into the background for stripping in a bar or something. :? Only her awesome voice saved the entire appearance...well that and her character.

It's amazing that Bioware put so much detail into sexing up the game (gratuitous butt shots, boob jobs for guys and girls, face lifts, Jack's undershirt nipples, free make-up for everyone....) That must have taken some time....no wonder some other story related aspects of the game fell short. <_<

And you should get a copy of Vampire Masquerade:Bloodlines. You get your little ... I don't even know how to call that. Let's just say you have your own Ghoul, who is again voiced by Jack's VA. Super funny game. I don't want to call that a romance. LoL ^^
You HAVE to patch both games, Vampire with the fanpatch or you will cures the glitches and bugs. But totally worth it.

Back to Liara.

I got the feeling that Traynor is a little bit like ME1 Liara, without being so naive. Kind of sad that Cortez and Traynor joined so late in the trilogy. Both of them are really good characters in my opinion.

I'm not only thinking about her geekyness, but Liara and Traynor are both thrown into a conflict and they have to adapt to living on a Spaceship and they have to deal with the feeling, that their lives are going to be in constant danger.

So yeah, I kind of see a lot of parallels, but Traynor feels like a much more polished version. (I still kind of miss Kelly, she was funny. xD)

Agree, agree and agree. I suspect BW probably made those changes to their characters (especially Ashley *shudders*) to attract your typical "17 year old (male) douchebags" (thank you, Cracked) who believe that female characters in videogames only serve as eyecandy.

Now, I know most gamers probably don´t think like that (probably because most gamers aren´t 17 year old teenboys), but the game companies apparentely don´t know that.

So that's exactly the same what those who don't like it do, at least according to what i'm usually seeing in this board and elsewhere. Neither is good.

Just accept that there are other opinions. That's not making yours vanish. But it's also no reason to indirectly call them liars or accuse them of being paid or not having their own opinion. One should be able to condone something like that if it doesn't suit your own opinion.

And yes, there has been occasions of reviews being supplied by the employees of the company that made the game in the first place, so, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

There sure were some occasions. But that's not a reason to generalize.
