About Liara's behavior that you're just friends, take a look at this: social.bioware.com/forums/forum/1/topic/325/index/10772461/1

Well it wasn't just that one scene (though thank you for posting the bug fix).  The friend comments during the citadel date and time capsule were really off putting.  I really, really wish there was romance specific SOMETHING in those scenes.  As many people have said, even Liara just resting her head on Shep's shoulder (or vice versa) during the time capsule scene would have been enough.

Also I really wish that there was some mechanic to lock in the Liara romance either right away on Mars or during the scene you mentioned.  Now of course this could only happen if you romanced her in ME1, did not romance anyone in ME2 and re-affirmed the relationship in LotSB. Or some other really stringent qualifications to make the option availible.  I understand why Bioware approached the situation the way they did; they wanted to make sure no one was forced into a situation they did not want.  That's fine, but if I've been completely faithful to Liara through two full games, why on earth would I want to end it now in the last chapter?

Edit: Oh dear, didn't know I'd be top.

Anyway let's just imagine the perfect option where her behavior will be like you described :P

Reminds be of a Thane fan who said: Liara fans made me hate Liara.
And I asked her: What did I do?

I don't even want to know what's going on there, because Thane was one of my favourite Romance conclusions in ME2. And even if they are behaving in such a manner, I could never hate him for that.

I don't understand this whole thing.
Thane deserves better fans? I leave that open.

"Don't let the fanbase make you hate the character" "Don't let the fanbase make you hate the character" "Don't let the fanbase make you hate the character" . I tell myself that line everytime I randomly stumble upon people bashing Liara from other character's threads.

See, this is why I stopped checking out Liara/ME content on tumblr.

There are far too many hollow-skulled divs who frequent that place.

The picture in the background is after the defeat of the Shadow Broker? Or is it in ME3 when Liara and Shepard first meet in Liara's cabin? (There is a part at that scene when they hold hands like this).

I think it is on the presidium date scene, aka "....just friends" weaksauce.

Aka - starry eyed.

starry-eyed - unrealistically or naively optimistic; "a starry-eyed reformer"; "starry-eyed idealism"

Erm... Not sure how that my statement fits into that definition. I would say I am being negative, both about how the romance was handled and the other fans.

There are definitely a few issues, but the above confession exaggerates any perceived flaws to a ridiculous extent.

Hmmm. True, but I still stand by that it has flaws that others do not care to admit.

BW has always had this uncanny ability to over correct. Don't like elevators in ME1? They're gone completely! Didn't like the Mako? No more exploration! Shepard didn't have feelings in ME1 or ME2? Now s/he gets upset when a kid dies! Liara Ninjamanced you in ME1 due to a bug? Now she just wants to be friends!

To be honest, I don't know if they do this deliberately, but it sure feels that way sometimes. I do know that Sylvia Feketekuty (wrote Liara in LotSB and ME3) stated that they dropped the ball during the time capsule scene. Why Shepard has to tell Liara, of all people, that s/he wants to be more than friends is beyond me. Maybe they really did want to cut down on the ninjamancing. Ironically, there is still a Liara romance bug in ME3. Aethyta will sometimes think you are Liara's girlfriend whether you are or not.

I don't see why people hate the friend comment in the time capsule scene. What do you want Liara to say? "You're a great lover Shepard." "You're good in the sack Shepard." "You're a good girlfriend Shepard."

I find the "You're a good friend." To be fine with the time capsule scene, the only issue I have is the "date" on the Citadel, not to mention it fades to black when they kiss yet if you start the romance in ME3, the first kiss between them is more intimate and shown then if oyu romanced her from ME and stayed loyal. Oh also no hugging after Thessia. Other then those two issues and the LOTSB bug(which is fixable on the PC version) I had no issues with Liara's romance at all, by far one of Biowares best romances.

They are.  To the extent theyre so ''naively optimistic'' or "overly romantic" about the romance (and all its aspects) that pointing out short comings of it or flaws are considered either nonsensical and/or antagonistic.  So much fifties fuzz in the eye/mind that it renders a mind incapable or its difficult for such mindsets to see wrong.

It's not much of an exaggeration at all. Some of her most important scenes have no discernible differences between a romance and a non romance, and that's just awful. People who hate Liara and don't romance her don't even realize that's the case, they just see the non romanced version and go SHE'S TOO FRIENDLY AAAAAAHHH and assume there's even *more* for an LI. When there isn't.

Liara has a lot of screentime, but as an LI? She has some of the *least* amount of screentime, actually.

Wow! You have been busy! I've only FShep/Liara, MShep/Ash with a sidetrip of Miranda, FShep/Kaidan. No other characters made me want to create a Shepard for them.

Had an import for each class from ME2.

Femshep/Liara is my female (and real) canon, Male/Shep Tali is my male canon. They're the two I'm really attached to. I'm always tempted to whip them out for a playthrough.

I did enjoy Jack (although the 'goodbye' on Earth is disappointing, hopefully EC will make the relationship feel more rewarding). Miranda's was surprisingly deep & enjoyable though. I did it renegade but I actually felt she'd better suit a paragon/gade. If EC is good, I might replay them. The others, meh, unless (like I said) some more interesting options come out.

Also, I might add. Most of these I've never played past the LI's Earth 'goodbye' (for obvious reasons).

wow you have been busy as PMC says I've only had a mshep/Liara and a mshep/Tali  although i have played them many times over

I do not find the line bad either in the time capsule scene, but as mentioned it could still have had a little extra bonus.

As for alternatives. Perhaps just a "You've been good to me."?

Yunno I still don't get the whole Tali love thing, I just don't see it, the girl does nothing for me. I like her as a character, she's alright, kinda like a kid sister but to romance erm nah.:? Maybe I should pop into the Tali board to understand why but I guess it's a case of different strokes for diferent folks:huh: People say Liara's naive, this girl is in a league of her own:P

Well, originally that maleshep also romanced Liara in ME1. But I wanted someone different in ME2 and Tali was the most likeable character, to me. But since then, just like Liara, and especially in ME3, I've come to seem more in the relationship with Tali.

The reason I like Tali and Liara the most because they are the only two characters that loved Shepard from the start (although with Tali you only find this out in ME2) and they always stick by Shepard and never doubt them.

Also, I RP'd that my male Shepard (Akuze/Spacer/Paragon) didn't like how Liara had changed in ME2. My femshep has a greater connection with Liara, due to her background, and was willing to fight through the walls Liara put up and fight for what they had. My maleshep thought she was cold and distant and thought they wouldn't work anymore. Still best friends and confidants though.

Also, my maleshep (due to Akuze) hates Cerberus. So Tali's attitude when she rejoins the Normandy fits right in (and her dialogue in ME3, regarding Cerberus, is gold for this! They're like Bonny & Clyde!). And they both grew up on ships. Add to that they're incredibly close friends. So, when Tali says she's always been interested in Shepard, he pursues it. And it works. She fits (that) Shepard like a glove, and vice-versa.

Tali's a brilliant character and great romance (some incredibly touching scenes). The only thing is that BW's reluctance to show her face makes romance scenes less physical (not even kissing). I'd love for a maskless, or tintless-masked, Tali in the EC (or a costume pack) but I doubt I'll get it.

Yeah I'm going to say that i completely agree with this and I'm just gonna point to this next time PMC questions my love for Tali or I'm just gonna throw disgusting pics of Ash at her....  but this is exactly how i set up my Tali romancing shep with the exception that i went through ME1 single and it was the hardest thing on earth not to romance Liara

Indeed. 3 important scenes for Liara (Time capsule, romance lock-on and post-Thessia) do not have any kind of changes even through they argueably should.

holy hotrods, Batman!!! It is JLB *queue 70's spinning cut scene of the bat symbol*

And i agree completely on this even if they just had Liara put her head on Shepards shoulder in the time capsule scene or just gave us loyal's a real date instead of having Liara bait  and tease Shepard into reaffirming their relationship again it would have been ten times better. oh well I guess i'll just disappear into fanfics to get that fix....

Also Theo i haven't really been on in a few days but I'll read your new one and leave a review soon :D

edit: top i haven't put this one up in awhile

Time for a new fanfic of my Thessian series! It's called Where You Belong, and I want to once again thank Aristobulus for all the help he provided during the making of this story - his insight, ideas, thoughts and suggestions - thank you so much! :)

As most of you probably know the Shepard/Liara stories I usually write are AU, taking place about a year after the defeat of the Reapers where the StarChild/Colored explosions/Plot holes/Normandy running away and all that fun stuff has not happened.

It's just one more glimpse of Shepard and Liara's life on Thessia, their relationship and the new wonders of the planet that Shepard gets to see during a trip they have together amidst the nature of the asari homeworld.

Thank you if you take the time to read it, and I'd love to hear your thoughts as always!

Requoting/posting Theo's new fic for a new page.
