I find the "You're a good friend." To be fine with the time capsule scene, the only issue I have is the "date" on the Citadel, not to mention it fades to black when they kiss yet if you start the romance in ME3, the first kiss between them is more intimate and shown then if oyu romanced her from ME and stayed loyal. Oh also no hugging after Thessia. Other then those two issues and the LOTSB bug(which is fixable on the PC version) I had no issues with Liara's romance at all, by far one of Biowares best romances.
Nothing wrong w/ the friend comment. There's just no acknowledgement of the other. The Liara romance is one of the best, but it could have been better. The Garrus/femshep romance extends just beyond certain scenes and affects nearly every encounter they share. Yeah, the Thessia scene could have used a tweak or two, but not much else. I do like the Wrex scene, however.

Okay I do acknowledge that there is quite alot of flaws and that many things could have been done better but in general I appreciate everything we get in the romance with Liara (even if I desire more) there is not any scenes I think that is bad enough that I would have preffered to remain without it.
All in all I think Liara's romance is fantastic but could have been even better.
That is true but I think that they are fantastic nonetheless (comfort scene not included), even if they could have been even better.Aristobulus500 wrote...
It's not much of an exaggeration at all. Some of her most important scenes have no discernible differences between a romance and a non romance, and that's just awful.
The most obvious case would be the timecapsule scene which is still a very beautiful scene even if I would have liked her to show that they are in a romance.
That would nearly be the case with me as well, I only have MShep/Liara playthroughs, all of them loyal and mostly build on the same template, not very inventive but I have no desire to be with anyone but Liaramoreeman06 wrote...

I would argue Liara has become less interesting with each game.
It does, it is just so little that it hardly makes any difference, that is the one scene I think is horribly inadequate and really needs improvment.Lizardviking wrote...
Indeed. 3 important scenes for Liara (Time capsule, romance lock-on and post-Thessia) do not have any kind of changes even through they argueably should.

I require my video game LI to say this to my PC
ALL THE TIME
Lol jIb, I support Liara stroking Shep's ego, Shep deserves these kind of pep talks now and again, yunno to boost morale:D
Looking at all the other romances as a collective whole we still got the best package overall although I agree with others here that yes some scenes were lacking especially not being able to comfort Liara after Thessia, having to constantly reaffirm your love for her and to fix the writing your name in the stars bit a simple cuddle or head rest on Shep's shoulders would have worked.
The Kaidan romance from what I've seen on youtube is also pretty rewarding and well thought out too, I've never romanced him, he's usually guarding the bomb on Virmire but Kaidan fans got a nice romance arch I think.

I've written a short (600ish words) one-shot of Liara trying to come to terms with Shepard's death at the start of ME2. It's called Empty and is set in Shepard's apartment back on Earth.
I hope I've managed to capture Liara and would appreciate any feedback you can offer - no one knows her better than you guys!
Cheers

I am impressed you wrote it in the present tense, that is usually very hard to do correctly. I think it seemed quite in-character and emotional as well, especially near the ending.
The only two things I would criticise is that the second line felt a bit more like poetry than thoughts and that the entire story it was too short

Yeah I think I'll have to adopt this outlook too, I'm surprised at the Thanemancers hostility though also I think on the Samara thread they bash Liara although quite subtly refering to her as "the child" or something, that's disappointing, I love Samara and I won't let some of her fans tarnish my opinion of her:whistle: Meh, damn fools we should eat them:devil:

We all know Asari are naturally graceful elegant dancers, would have loved to have seen Liara in action at Purgatory:wub:

Bashing characters ...
I've stopped regularly going into some threads that I use to love because of that ... Still love the characters but not the more vocal posters on the thread(s). People seem to forget that other posters like more than one character.
And every thread has its weirdness! Yes, a Tali lover may have posted what her sweat might have tasted like but I've seen people here go on about the sexual pleasure spots on the asari. Oh, and debate what melding would really feel like ... in great detail. To an outsider those would seem a little creepy
As to Thane, the character was dying in ME2 so his death should not have come as a surprise to be honest. As a non-romanced character I thought his story was perfect for his characters. Now, had a chosen a romance path where my problem would have come in is not him dying ... the problem would be that romanced Shepards weren't given anything really during or after he died. His death was the same for romanced/non-romanced from what I'm told (not sure if true) and no one mentioned him to Shepard after he passed on. I could just imagine a Shepard returning to the ship and no moment to mourn, to have someone approach her and comfort her? Really? Then later she is being told that poor Liara needs comfort? Screw Liara! I lost my partner and not one of you gave a crap! That would have been my problem.
Why other peeps may not like Liara fans is because of posts like "Well you picked the wrong character to romance" - "LOL! You should have picked Liara!" - "So what if he cheated on you! I didn't get my blue babies!" and on. I've seen some really crappy posts by Liara fans on other threads and it makes the rest of her fans look like creeps as well. There were some jerks on the Miranda thread that went trolling over to the Kaidan thread and after the Miranda fans found out they apologized to the Kaidan fans for the nuthead. That was cool.
Just my 2 cents!
Oh, Moreeman ... Tali? Really? Yuck!

I just finished ME3 yesterday and I'm glad I changed my romance in ME3 to Liara. I didn't romance anyone in ME1 because I didn't know you could, I romanced Tali in ME2 but I really liked how thoughtful Liara was when she made that time capsule explaining the reapers for future civilizations. So I changed it my romance to Liara and it was touching when you see Liara's face in Shepard's last memory of her in the ending whilst that amazing piano theme plays. Also her goodbye on Earth is very well made as well.
Welcome~
Re: Thane
It was made VERY OBVIOUS were that romance was going. I like Thane, but a big part of his character was the fact that he was dying.
Re: Tali
Tali is a great character, but her fanbase is not the worst behaved IMO.
Re:Liara Romance.
Honestly, there's little to distinguish between the freind path, and the romance path. However in terms of writing I have to say Liara has the most 'romantic'. Maybe that's because it was written by a female?
The Renegade Romance with Liara feels much more mature, and I can no longer take the Paragon romance seriously.
Actually Paragons are the most starry-eyed not Liara fans :innocent:

Keep in mind those Liaramancers are in other threads. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few Liara fans in this thread that aren't that hostile and mean, but the thing is...they stay in this thread. I know I've talked to a few people that have been like "well I don't like all the hostility in other threads so I don't even bother" so...the nicer Liara fans tend to not even show up among all that hostility.
I, for one, don't go anywhere else on the BSN. Too much anger, too much hostility. But that means I'm also not out there repping Liara fans and showing it shouldn't be an us vs. them thing.
Also I don't think there's anything wrong at all with discussing what mind melding would be like. That's nothing at all like discussing what Tali's sweat tastes like, especially when you factor in the conclusions that guy came to.

Yes, I also know Liara fans who never leave this thread as well. Unfortunately there are some that wander off that probably shouldn't since they don't represent Liara fans well.
As to the guy who went to all that work on Tali's sweat ... I'm sure that he also saw what he did as reasonable and nothing wrong with it. Would it be something that I'd spend my time on? No. But I write fan fiction soooo I'll not throw rocks since there are many people that find that just as weird.

What do you think is more mature about the renegade romance with Liara? I havn't played a renegade romance so I don't really know how it is, but my impresion was that the paragon romance is much more respectful of her.Yuqi wrote...
The Renegade Romance with Liara feels much more mature, and I can no longer take the Paragon romance seriously.
The differences I am aware of (and we are obviously ignoring the "end romance renegade" here) is that in ME1 Shepard wants to start their relationship immediately rather than giving Liara the time she needs.
In ME2 he/she rages at Liara over that she gave Ceberus Shepard's body and is more "we are all going to die so what does it matter" in the cabin scene.
And in the sex scenes in both ME1 and 3 shepard seems more concerned with the physical aspect of their intimacy than the emotional one.

Anyway, I guess we should just ban the whole P/R thing. I think R is fundamentally incompatible with Liara, but on the other hand Yuqi thinks the P is immature. I don’t really see much common ground to be found.

And I find it difficult taking this statement seriously, too.
So, it's mature to treat Liara like dirt, to be inconsiderate of her feelings, and not to give a damn about the joining between you and her and the emotions that such an intimate bond of soul and mind invokes? To treat her like an object and a means to help you achieve your goals and use her for solely physical pleasures? Because that's how a Renegade Shepard sounds like when you romance Liara with one.
The Paragon Romance between Shepard and Liara is the most mature romance you can find in the whole trilogy. It's unquestionably the only one where Shepard has such a strong mental bond with his/her LI to the extent that he/she has with Liara. It's a relationship based on trust, compassion, friendship, confidence, mutual support and love. I don't know about you, but that's what a mature relationship sounds to me.
It's fine if you prefer Renegade yourself, but you make it out like the romance between a Paragon Shepard and Liara is something childish and superficial, and I just can't agree with that at all.
