Pessimistic or realistic, I don't know.

A pessimist is never disappointed.
A pessimist is constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised.

;)

And disappoint others.

Akernis, could you provide that fanfic for me plz? If it's in your signature than which one?

I was reading themarshal's A Good Night, for the second time, specifically chapter five and six.

http://www.fanfictio.../1/A_Good_Night

While doing the finishing touches of chapter three of Spark of Hope, which is my alternative ending fic (with no catalyst and currently just pre-TIM), though Shepard and Liara are going to go through a few things yet before they get their happy-ending.

Though Theo's post-war fics are really good for happy endings too.

Tell me about it! I'll be doing that myself! One more thing to consider is that being disappointed is different this time around - we all have our headcanon ready anyway. If EC fails to deliver, nothing changes for me - I'll still be blocking out everything after getting to Earth. I'll definitely not be happy if the EC blows, but at least I'll already have my own happy place to go to afterwards.

The thing with the initial ending is that nobody expected it. BioWare used to be a bastion of masterful storytelling and I trusted them completely. Now my initial expectation out of anything they do is going to be negative. So that's the route I'm taking with the EC and I hope I'm wrong.

And I actually don't remember Ali Hillis being called to do lines, but I think she must have - pretty much everybody else did.

She may not have.

Fanservice can be either good or bad, and a lot of people complained about Liara supposedly having too much of the spotlight in ME3. It may be that the most shrill voices won out, and other characters will deliver the final thoughts. If that is the case it is a shame really, as she's one of the most popular characters in the game despite having a 'hate' club.

At any rate there being no accouncement from Ali Hillis pretty much guarantees that she hasn't done voice work for the EC. She seems very engaged with her fans and I imagine she would have dropped hints on her twitter page or would have showed up in an interview somewhere along the line.

That is a good point. They could reuse certain lines in the EC, even if Ali Hillis wasn't brought back.

Honestly, I don't think Liara had too much content in ME3, it's more that some of the other characters didn't get enough. Having said that, two of my favorite scenes are w/liara
1. On Mars when she asks what you're fighting for (My playthrough obviously highlights Ash here).
2. The time capsule thing, which would not have worked with another character. I can see people wanting something as sweet from their LI, but no other LI would, or would be capable, of doing that.

So yeah, i used to be a total Liara hater, but she's totally grown on me and I consider her the girl BFF (Garrus being the male BFF).

Also, if you play as an adept, you can F STUFF UP with her (she does singularity, you do warp, repeat ad infinitum).

Also, to stay on topic, there's no way Ali didn't come in to do more lines if Brooks and Sbarge did.  Even I would think that stupid.

God I would hate if you were right, worst part is the cheering from all the haters who will just go "deal with it".

Seriously, I want ALL characters to have dialog in the EC.

The first link in my signature has a big list…there’s a couple there. Theodoro’s are always recommended here, though I still haven’t read them…:(

My “Unity” (second link) is working its way toward happy  Lots of Li recently for those who like Liara…I’m sure there are some, somewhere…

How's so? If the EC ends up being what I fear it will be, it's not my fault.

Now drink, forget about everything and wait for the 26th.

Can I get mine (Spark of Hope) on that list as well?

Unless it does not qualify as an Liara story since it is only partly focused on the two of them.

I think that may just be my favorite scene with Liara in the entire series. Besides being one of the more emotional scenes of the series in general, it in a few short minutes it fully captures who Liara is as a character. If I had to sum up Liara by naming three of her character traits, it would be intelligence, kindness, and her devotion to people she cares about. And all of them are on display in that one scene.

I also think you are spot on in saying the scene doesn't really work if you substitute any other character. I've argued that in the past when people complained that it is Liara, rather than some other character that presents the time capsule. Let's say for example it is Mordin that presents the time capsule. While he may possess the intelligence and technical know-how, he wouldn't have the same emotional investment. With Mordin it would just be crafted on the cold calculation that it is entirely likely they'd fail in their mission and perish. It would not include the touching eulogy to Commander Shepard, as that's just not how Mordin operates.

God I would hate if you were right, worst part is the cheering from all the haters who will just go "deal with it".

I hope I'm just being overly pessimistic. But as for right there not being any official announcement (as far as I'm aware) on Ali Hillis doing voice work for the EC, can't be a good sign.

This is a very good point. A part of what made the original ending sting so badly is all the whiplash because you were just not expecting it - for me the game really had me on a high and it just all went to **** so quickly.

But now I'm expecting it to be awful, so I'm bracing myself.

It's funny isn't it? We're still talking about Bioware here - it shows just how badly they've absolutely murdered their reputation - when before Bioware content was met with expectations of "oooh I bet the writing and story are gonna be awesome" now Bioware content is gonna be met with "ugh I bet it's gonna be terrible."

In one fell swoop they went from being known for making high quality writing to being known for making **** awful stories.

Ali doesn't seem to be saying much at all, to be honest. She doesn't tweet nearly as often as she used to.

That, and she didn't discuss LotSB with the fans at all prior to its release. Relax, folks.

I have a question - do you guys think Liara would fall in love again, centuries after ME3 and centuries after Shepard's natural (not ending-induced) death?

Really? Really?

Come on now. Don't do this. We don't need a competition between Liara fans like this.

If you've got something worthwhile from that thread that hasn't been posted here, just post it here. You don't need a silly slap fight about "well our thread is better"

As I've said before on this topic, I think it's possible, and any respectful Shepard would want her to be capable of it. It's exactly like with Cortez - at least, my Shepard would not want to be an anchor keeping Liara from ever feeling love again.

Shepard would die when Liara is still relatively young, it's absolutely unfair and cold to ask her to remain alone for the rest of her life after that - which, by an Asari's lifespan, will likely be 3/4ths of her life or around.

I think she'd mourn for a long time. I don't think she'd ever find someone she connects with quite like she did Shepard, she'd never *forget* Shepard or anything - but I think eventually she could find another person to love, and that would love her.

Yes, I think she will. After Shepard's death, I suspect that she'd spend a lot of time mourning him/her and I believe that he/she will forever hold a special place in her heart for the rest of her life. She might not even want to have somebody else after Shepard, and she probably can't imagine herself ever being with somebody else.

However, love is not something that you have a control over. It's not something you can plan for. It just happens. You become swept up in it before you even know it. And in all likelihood, through the many years ahead of Liara, she will eventually meet somebody that she'll develop feelings for regardless whether she wants to or not. And I think Shepard would make sure to let her know that she shouldn't hold back if that happens, and that she shouldn't shut herself out from loving somebody else. That will not in any way be an act of disloyalty on her part towards Shepard. And she eventually will find someone, I believe. She'll still be relatively young when the inevitable happens.

Will add. The list is of all fanfics anyway, not just Liara (although she has a good representation). There’re around 250 fics listed.

Thanks for the input - I'm kind of mulling over writing Liara hundreds of years later.

And Theo... your request for Shep's POV is proving very difficult to write! :P
