Hello everyone,
With some encouragement from Theo, I finally finished my companion piece to Empty, which is about Liara trying to come to terms with Shepard's death at the hands of the Collectors.
The piece is called 15 Seconds, and is told from Shepard's point-of-view. It details his/her thoughts of Liara over the last 15 seconds of consciousness following the Normandy's destruction. Dying thoughts are incredibly difficult to write, and I have no idea if I've made a complete hash of it or if it's somewhat touching - although I hope it's the latter.
Both are pretty short (600-700 words).
Background: this Shep has had a tragic past, grew up to be an all-swearing Torfan veteran and kind of really has nothing to live for. All changed (gradually) by our favourite Liara, who stole her heart and gave her something to live for (inevitably cheesy like that).
I hope you enjoy
Amazing work again, and I want to say that I definitely recommend everyone read these stories. No matter who your Shepard is, they are relevant, impacting, and emotional - very well-written. My Shepard isn't the Torfan veteran but what is portrayed here is true for him, as well. I hope you'll be writing more of these, Jen!
Thanks, Theo, that's really sweet of you to say. And yeah, you're completely right about it not being restricted to one particular Shep - the background just helps to put one or two sentences in context.
As for writing more... haha, my internal fluff-o-meter needs a bit of TLC before I can write more stuff like Empty or 15 Seconds, lol. Writing the latter actually made me really sad

I will not be bullied into accepting a piece of **** to cover a piece of ****. I know how aggressive you can be about things, Aristobulus, but that won't work with me. Neither are something I want to accept, but one is better than the other, and frankly, it is not the Indoctrination Theory. I will write off this series if Bioware cannot make the endings work without IT, because IT is not something that works in a literary sense. You people have twisted Mass Effect lore to fit something that is silly and makes little sense in game lore. IT is not quality. You all want to think that rushed, flawed game design is proof. You want to think that Bioware lied to us about cutting indocrination out of the game, only to include it in the ending. They said that it did not work. I don't know how much clearer they could have made it for y'all.
But, I'm sick of arguing about this. I'm sick to my damn stomach trying to point out all of the horribly obvious clues, hell, statements that point out that Bioware won't do the Indoctrination Theory. No one wants to change their mind for either side. I won't write anything for you. Not because I can't (you want to read something like that, then go on freaking ff.net and do a simple search. There are dozens of fics that fit your demands. It's not as hard as you make it seem.), but because I'm ****ing sick of this whole thing. I'm not playing any games, I'm not going to accept your absolutes and I'm just not going to talk about this anymore.
I'm going to wait for EC and if it proves me wrong, then I'm just going to have to never trust Bioware again. Proves me right, and I'm going to pretend this never happened. Because that's what I want the most as far as this board is concerned. I'm sick of the hostility over this, I'm sick of going to other boards and getting laughed at for even mentioning BSN due to IT and I'm sick of hearing about it. My irritation of Thane's death, of how the asari were treated, of the Cerberus coup and the whole damn endings pale in comparison to how absolutely tired I am of reading, seeing, hearing, whatever about the Indoctrination Theory. I'm done, I just want to wait three days and see what we get.
Go Midnight Go Go Go Midnight!!

But if the reunion takes place, I guess Liara's will be very emotional and well done. Just look how great the love scene before Cerberus base was. It was much better than any other LI's scene. I want my blue babies damn it!

The thing I look forward to the most is Shepard's reunion with Liara. Everything else is of lower priority. I'm afraid however, that I will be greatly disappointed. I intend to play and get the ending where Shepard lives. But what if Shepard dies later anyway? If the reunion does not happen at all, or it is far too short.

This is also for me, the biggest things that I hope will happen in the EC.
Unfortunatley, and as much as it hurts for me to even think about it, I highly doubt that there will be a reunion for those that have 4000+ EMS and choose destroy, because as I said, having a reunion means Shepard lives, which leaves a door open for a new ME games with Shepard as the main hero, a thing Bioware doesn't want.
But maybe they will suprise us...

That's the only thing I can hope for, to be honest - more Shepard / Liara content. I'd still most likely be sticking to headcanon but it doesn't hurt to have the romance acknowledged, even with the ending as it is. A reunion might calm me down somewhat. It still won't fundamentally change my opinion of the ending, but at least I won't be walking out as depressed as I was when I first completed ME3.CaptainDope wrote...

It's just wrong to have our emotions played with like this. The problem is that the series has always been leading up to the theme of triumph over impossible odds, and leading to a good ending that it's just all the more heart-breaking if we don't get it. It'll certainly be painful to go through conversations with Liara again talking about their future, and the little blue children and everything, knowing that it can't actually happen... Yeah.

What happens to the universe and characters if you choose Control ending
What happens to the universe and characters if you choose Synthesis ending
What happens to the universe and characters if you choose destroy ending with a very low EMS
There should not be so many new details about this one. Shepard dies, your two squad mates die. Earth is obliterated. Normandy crashlands and barely anyone survive. It will be a short and sad ending.
What happens to the universe and characters if you choose destroy ending with an average EMS
Shephard dies, but the rest of the group survives. I can imagine the survivors adding Shepard's name to the memorial wall and Normandy and share their thoughts of him/her.
What happens to the universe and characters if you choose destroy ending with a very high EMS.
This ending, is what I believe will be the major part of the DLC. If Shepard survives and is reunited with his team and LI, there must be a lot of content to cover each reuion with a LI.
I am very curious how the reunion will happen, since Normandy crashlands with almost no mean of rescue. I hope the reuion does not take place many years after. I was loyal to Liara for many years, and I expect her to do the same.

Not wholly correct. It's Drew Karpyshyn who, in my opinion, was the glue that held Mass Effect together. He left the writing team in ME3 to work on the Old Republic, and it shows. Mass Effect is much lesser without him.TheDonk95 wrote...

They can't retcon the "Shepard lives" ending. That would create another ****storm from the fans. Even if Shepard does survive, it still is the last we see of him, for there will probably not be any more ME games. Since the DLC is 2 GB big, it is a very significant one. There are six major endings that the DLC needs to cover.
What happens to the universe and characters if you choose Control ending
What happens to the universe and characters if you choose Synthesis ending
What happens to the universe and characters if you choose destroy ending with a very low EMS

They also need to show what happens to the Reapers if you choose Control or Synthesis, not just showing them take off of Earth. Not that I ever chose those options, I'd just want to know what happens to Shepard and the Reapers after he jumped into the beam.

So visiting Shep and Liara, if Liara's cooking doesn't finish you off the drive to the hosptial with Shep at the wheel will.
For me though I'd like to think Liara has a few speciality dishes up her sleeve that she is a perfectionist at. Would be interesting to know if the asari have a national dish or cuisine that is staple in their diets like us. Since we know they can eat our food, would love to know what their food would look like or tastes like.
Haha, I wholly agree. This particular picture inspired Liara to ask Ashley how humans traditionally celebrate birthdays, though... and that was the result of her first attempt

Meh, I came here to see what Liara fans has to say about the Extended Cut release next week, and all I see is people talking about IT. Bioware said it themselves that the DLC neither confirms or denies indoctrination. It is up to each player to believe what they choose to believe. Now, please let it die and go back to Liara business.
That was the point of the ending ... SPECULATION.
Fighting over how each person sees the ending or wants the ending is pointless. Use whatever works for you to make the ending bearable at the least or as I like to say ... choose your poison and move on.
As far as the EC ... All I want is for there to be just one ending that shows Shepard standing up alive without the MP, Apps, etc requirements and I'll be good and take it from there ... I'll go all creative and figure out my own ending. I'm simple like that ... Shepard getting her as5 up, spitting out a piece of dirt and smiling ... hurt but alive.
Of course I am real curious how they are going to get Liara on the Normandy after she had ran down the hill with Shepard. How in the mookedy-moo did that happen? Not too much longer and we will see what they put together.
