The scene with Liara as one of the survivors is now among my favorites in the series. I also love that it ends with, "I am yours" rather than just dropping the L-bomb again. Somehow that gave the scene more emotional impact for me.

Likewise. By that point, Liara has already explicitly used the term "love" twice beforehand. A third time would therefore lack emotional significance, which is why I prefer the "I am yours" line for that scene. As you said, it has far greater impact than another declaration of love.

Part of the emotional gut-punch with that scene for me also, is Liara's facial expression. The devs really did a great job with that, and she has the look of overwhelming grief on her face. We the players know that Shepard may survive, but Shepard and Liara don't know or expect that. Even winning against the Reapers is a ridiculous long shot. For all she knows the farewell is final, and it shows on her face.

Also its close enought to 24 hours that I'm declaring the spoiler moratorium over,  I'll chip in probably around 11pm EST when i can finish up another run at cronos station.

At least it ended on a much more positive note, at least it's hinted at it and my headcanon did the rest.

Speaking of which... any reunion fanart in the making yet?

That really showed how strongwilled Shepard is

I don't know if I'd have been able to break away from that

Will take better artists than I. Although if someone wanted to take my latest fic and do some art of it, I'd love them for... a considerable period of time.

Oh god...

Anybody have a .gif of Liara's face after she tells Shepard that she is fine? It is also in the farewell scene...

I also imagine Liara is at that point painfully remembering what happened the last time Shepard sent her away like that, during the Collector attack above Alchera.

Before, like during the gift scene, she seems to have accepted the idea that either or both of them might not survive; but I think the outcome that really scares her is her surviving while Shepard dies. I don't even want to imagine what losing Shepard a second time would do to her... :crying:

I actually somehow managed to record 146 GB of footage from this 1.8 GB DLC.

Oh and I'm sure Garrus had to hold on to Liara quite firmly in that scene or she would've ran back to Shepard.

Its not so much her living and shepard dying that scares her, she could come to terms with that I think, she's strong enough to face that.  Its shepard getting into a situation that may involve dying again with Liara helpless to prevent it...again.  Living with knowledge that there might have been something she could've done...
But yea i feel for her, twice telling her to go...she's going to put a restriction on Shepard using that word from that moment on.

"Liara gonna go get us some coffee, be back in 15!"
"Damnit shepard, your not leaving me behind!"
"Oook lets go together for some brunch then.  God knows what evil lurks in those breakfast serving restraunts, I'll probably need back up and hash browns..."

ok so from what i can tell by what you guys have posted one of my fics might be considered AU now, i have to check and see how far after the endings i put "Remembering."  guess its time to make a retcon

edit:  changed it from a week after to two months thinking that this would be enough time for ships to regroup and return, as well as too little time for major rebuilding efforts to begin

God damn look at all that blood on Liara's armor, I thought she just had some cuts and such around her head but man she really got torn up, that's all her blood, it's purple.

It's probably a good call to have her evacuate, as painful as it is, because with those injuries she probably wouldn't have been able to survive the blast that would knock Shepard out.

I don't know if the other LI's have the same look on their face, but it worked so well for Liara. Just looking into those big, blue eyes... They (BioWare) must have done that on purpose.

Beautiful scene.

Yep. But where is all that blood coming from?
Too bad they didn't take the effort to create whole new slightly damaged and cut armor textures for that scene but just slapped the low resolution blood texture on top of the armor that looks like it's brand new. But I can understand it as it would be a huge work to do that for every character and every armor variation.

I think you all have brought up some good points. Probably all of the above was weighing on her mind: From the deja vu aspect with Alchera, to the prospect of surviving while Shepard dies, to the utter helplessness of not being able to prevent it...I think all were probably factors in Liara's initial resistance to leaving Shepard, even though the severity of her wound(s) required it.

Also while I think Liara had spent the greater part of Mass Effect 3 mentally preparing herself for the fact that Shepard, or both of them would likely die, at that moment she was actually faced with the possibility of it being imminent. Much like losing a loved one who had been terminally ill for a long time, being mentally prepared for that outcome might aid in managing grief in the long term, but at the moment you are actually faced with losing that person nothing can really prevent the grief or anguish.

On a side note...I'm glad Dr. Chakwas was still on board the Normandy! Liara looks she has lost a lot of blood. Without immediate medical treatment it is possible that she may have bled to death or died from shock. (shock actually being the biggest killer on the battlefield)

I agree, the feeling of helplessness certainly makes it even worse for her. But from Liara's perspective, pretty much all conceivable situations at that point that involve Shepard dying and her surviving mean she would be powerless to prevent it. If they continued on together, they would either die together or Shep would somehow die in front of Liara with her being unable to prevent it.
What I'm trying to say is... however Shepard might happen to die at that point, it would be equally crushing for Liara. Ok, I think she could accept Shepard's sacrifice in control or synthesis, but she has no idea those scenarios are even a possibility.
