I've been trying to figure out what to do with these terabytes of Mass Effect footage I've got stored on my computer.  Thought I might do something with Liara's romance story but I am sure that stuff is all over the internet.

Anywho, I figured I'd stop by and say hello.  New poster here.  Been reading these forums for a long time but never actually posted.  I'm a pretty shy person so it took some time and courage to finally participate.  Hopefully I can get involved in even the slightest bit.

Well, I've just spent ample time thinking about the EC and going over it repeatedly mentally, but I still come to the same conclusion. I do not like it and stand by what I previously said. It should have been in the original game, whether that's due to Hudson and Walters's horrible writing or EA's time constraints, I don't know, but I can't excuse either case. No reason it needed to take this explosion of a backlash to include content that makes the ending make sense if only somewhat. There are still plotholes, such as the Normandy pick up or why it has to crash land at all and others. I still do not think the EC, as a whole did anything remotely impressive. I liked the goodbye scene with Liara, but I personally do not think this scene carries the EC all on its own. It remains the only truly good, but not great content in the DLC.

All in all, I feel that this was mediocre and not to par with what we've seen Bioware come out with previously, which prevents me from either liking it or congratulating them on a job well done considering I don't believe it to be a job well done. It just is not an ending the series deserves. I've gotten over a lot of my disappointment that I had initially, and it's time to move on to my own personal financial plan when it comes to Bioware and EA games. I'm not boycotting, that really solves nothing, but you better believe that Bioware games are going to be hitting the bargain bin before I even look at them. EA games, well, I'm not sure I'm ever going to buy from them outside of Bioware.

Perfect in every sense of the word. I absolutely love this - once again masterful! I have only one thing to say about Liara fans in this thread: Read this. Now.

I'll admit that I like both of these lines. It's great to see this teasing side of Liara which I've always thought we weren't shown enough of in the game. It'd be awesome if they are really included - the more romance content with Liara, the better!

Agreed!

Liara tends to be one of the more serious squadmates. She could use more humorous lines. Image IPB

Liara is actually quite humorous in her random lines throughout ME1. She's very dry in that game.

Something about sand? I missed that line on my playthrough.
But I find her lines during LotSB are very funny.

"I don't know which is worse the geth or all this sand in my... never mind."

That comment always makes me laugh. But yeah I think ME3 needed more LotSB style banter.

There's also the line: "Now onto the Geth base. Not something an intelligent being would typically say."

Then:

Dantius: We have trust issues in our family.

Liara: Obviously.

Few more I can't remember off the top of my head at four am.... I think one or both of those may not be Liara specific, but the way Liara delivers them fits her character exactly regardless, so I just assume that she's the only one that says them.

I agree. She could use to have some funny, less- serious lines. Ease your tense Liara :)

But it seems that our squadmates won't be silent in the ME3 DLCs (if the leak of the leviathan dlc is true). Some new squad banter with Liara would be better than nothing ^_^

Speaking of squad banter in DLC, from some of the leaked dialogue of the upcoming DLC it looks like Liara gets a couple of humorous lines. Highlight the text below if you want to take a look. The jokes appear to be romance specific.

yay Lightspeaker is back *waves jubilantly*  and don't feel bad about your writing I've been stuck both on the next chapter of First Impressions and on my new post EC fic I'm trying to write

I've actually got a small pile of one-shot ideas to have a go at when I'm done with the latest chapter of my main fic thanks to my hanging around on twitter. None of them are Liara but I might still give them a go anyway. ^_^

My post ending stuff is likely to be a part of my "main" series, though likely a separate fic in it's own right.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I actually kinda like the EC because I feel that now, at least, it's not this bleak, nihilistic pile of completely nonsensical rubbish. But it's still not really that "good". It's average. It's acceptable as an ending, but it isn't very satisfying.

In short it's an ending I think I can live with. But it definitely isn't one I'd rate as a great finish to the series.

She says this one on Feros when you get into the Mako right outside the Skyway elevator from Zhu's Hope. I have to have subtitles on to notice it since the sound files are either damaged in my game or Bioware forgot to turn them on....

Indeed, Liara is wonderful when she is teasing, correction: Liara is always wonderful but it is nice to see her be like that, we do not get enough of that in the games.

Hey now, Liara does have a sense of humor! Her sense of humor is just a more dry, subtle one - but I really find it amusing when she jokes around, and her style really does suit her personality - it's not blatant jokes like Garrus or Joker might tell or something.

Yep, very subtle and only really comes out if you take her with you in ME1. I didn't always like Liara and thought she was an encyclopedia on the asari and that's it. Then, I just brought her with me on a whim for a mission and she starts to drop jokes and humor that I would. That's when I realized that Liara wasn't an encyclopedia, she's just a nerd. A lovable nerd that reminds me of myself. I felt that her situational dialogue showed her off much better than the initial conversations.

that is excellent, however it still overlooks the simple possibility that the choice could be invalidated by a different person arriving at the same point in a future cycle.

More importantly, for me, we are supposed to believe the crucible could re-write the dna of everything, or control just the reapers, but destroy cannot distinguish only reapers like control can? Forced choice = illogical and sloppy.

I love it that when you bring her in your missions in ME3 and she is your LI, she asks if you are alright after some heavy battle scenes.

Were you worried about me ?

ME1 she's invaluable, especially as a soldier. Singularity plus Spectre Assault Rifle X makes for a real fish in a barrel killing experience

Well, it may have been in keeping with the aesthetic values of the early Protheans. After all, on Eden Prime Liara states that Prothean architecture may only have become ultra-functional after the beginning of the Reaper war of their cycle. No time to make things pretty when you're struggling for survival.

But I do love how Liara's perception of the Protheans is so coloured by her romantic character.
