They used an Asari character as a stand in, but it is supposed to be a new alien species. The Asari are extinct in that ending, thanks to Shepard. Image IPB

All it takes is one asari to survive ... I'm thinking that is an asari. Resilient peeps that they are ... embracing and all.

I don't get the whole "fighting over the best ending" debates. Of my three Shepards they each choose based on their characters ... If I personally chose it would be ... oh, heck who am I kidding, I would have been dead in ME1 so I'll just leave the ending choices to the Shepard in play.

I don't think it is an Asari because in the Reject ending the previous cycle (Shepard's cycle) lost, and the Reapers aren't too keen on leaving survivors. Also if the Asari survived into the next cycle they wouldn't have needed Liara's time capsules.

Also, if anybody can think of any good names for Asari, please do send them along (I need to name some Asari original characters).

This is a longer fic, Theo, but it really works well. I love the dynamic of Garrus and Tali as a comparison to Shepard and Liara - there are some similarities, but Garrus and Tali have their own styles, their own relationship that is different from the one Shepard and Liara have together.

As well, just a chance to see Thessia and the city explored some more - there are some very pretty sights described here, and it all makes sense too and is fitting for the Asari.

I especially love the overall emotion and tone of this one - it keeps a very relaxed, casual and pleasant tone. There's more I can say - and I will - but I want to give people a chance to read it before writing up a more detailed post.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts - there was definitely an opportunity to be taken with displaying Garrus and Tali's friendship with Shepard and Liara and the differences between them. If any of the characters have this special bond in Mass Effect, it's them, and it's only probable that they would keep in contact and see each other throughout their lives.

And indeed more of a chance to explore Thessia - every setting in the planet really has so much to be seen, I don't think it would ever be thoroughly explored - there's just so much to it, and who knows what else!

And in that case I might as well share as I just got finished with a fic of my own, a follow up to "Birthday".
About a little project Shepard wants to share with Liara.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, Akernis, I replied via PM in the FFN, and I also read your own story - and I loved it - it was very sweet and touching. I told you what I think in detail on DA.

Don't read this post if you haven't read Theo's fic yet. Just a warning.

Honestly, what I love about that newest fic, Theo, is just the sheer power and intensity of the dance segment at the end. The entire fic maintains a really peaceful and relaxed tone like I said, but then the end, when Shepard asks Liara to dance - it changes. The dance is just a really powerful scene, and it's really exotic and interesting too.

It's interesting because it starts out seeming like a typical slow, romantic human dance - just some strings, a singing voice, and slow, plain, deliberate movements. Then, something unexpected - electronica of all things kicks in, and Liara really takes control of the dance - it's an immediate shift, and Liara starts it off by mixing biotics into the dance, and the dance also becomes more seductive and alluring.

It just - the use of biotics, the style of the music, all of it really does seem very Asari in nature, and it's a nice contrast to the typical dance scene you're expecting at the start. It really subverts that style, because the Asari aren't humans!

And I like that Liara is leading the dance - another subversion. Yet there's still equality maintained in their relationship - Liara may be leading the dance, but Shepard had to be the stronger one in the beginning to initiate it and get the dance to even happen in the first place!

Finally, ending it on a mind meld is just extremely powerful and emotional. The dance is intense and alluring, but the mind meld winds it back down perfectly to a very powerful expression of pure love between them. It's a perfect climax after the dance scene. I really enjoy how you show off the versatility of the mind meld too, in that through it Liara lets Shepard actually understand some of the native Asari tongue.

A Yahg telling a Vorcha, how Shepard made their world domination possible.
I would have liked it, sounds like a happy ending to me.

Liara's time capsule still contain useful info about how the Reaper War went, for reference for later generations so it isn't forgotten during the 50,000 years.

Maybe they were luckier when they tried to cryo freeze people into the next cycle -- like the Prothreans tried on Ilos and Eden Prime --. Add the thousand year lifespan and it seems possible with a lot of luck.

@Aristobulus:

Thank you so much for the words and for the in-depth comments about the dance segment. There was indeed an opportunity to make this dance exotic and special, it was difficult to actually think of how it was going to end up, but I settled for a mix of several ideas instead of going for just one, and I like how it turned out. It was something I could clearly imagine, and I knew that *that* was it once I went over all ideas. The challenge was putting it into words.

And the idea is that the joining is not a necessary part of the dance, but those who are close to one another would include it in since it's an opportunity for them to express their feelings in the songs like Shepard and Liara do. With how I imagine an asari would sing in what we have hints to is a rather beautiful language, then I'd imagine that most of their songs would have a romantic tone to them similar to the one in "Life in the Skies".

Somehow, I don't think the Vorcha would be exchanging fangs with the Yahg in the next cycle. Image IPB Yahg were afterall planet bound and not technologically advance. Sorry, sharp fangs. Here have a bone to gnaw over. Image IPB

If Javik and Liara make up after Thessia, and Javik doesn't touch his memory shard. He confides in Shepard that he and Liara will write a book. Lets imagine that Liara wasn't your Shepards LI. Do you think there would be any potential for romance between Liara and Javik?

No, just because Javik is a prothean doesn't mean she would like him. And I don't think Liara likes Javik's character. He isn't Shepard who is remarkable strong-will and has the ability to make everyone follow her/him into hell ect. And Shepard was the one that rescued Liara in ME1, love is easy to form between the rescuer and the "damsel in distress". Feron is much better than Javik IMO.

Hey there,
I would like to share with you my new tribute to Liara

Making this video was so much fun. She is such a great character and a complex companion to Shepard with all her different faces and her incredible development during the game. That`s what I like to show you with this video and I hope I'll have success :).

I just wanted to chime in since I just played through this part:

The farewell scene that Liara gets on Earth (not at the beam, the earlier one) is probably one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the game, in a good way. Especially if you broke up with her earlier in the game. I know, I'm going to hell.

I just felt SO BAD since it's hammered home just how obviously much she loves Shepard regardless of their relationship status.

Wow, that was really an amazing tribute! Usually the fanmade tributes are a bit too cheesy for my taste, but your video was great. Good pacing and in all the other ways too, nice work! :wizard:  I actually watched the whole video (haven't done that with fanmade videos for a long, long time) and enjoyed every second of it. Wouldn't mind seeing more  this kind of Liara videos ;).

And to all of you Liara thread peeps I wanna say hi! It's been ages since the last time I posted but here I am again ^_^.

Edit: first post for a long time and I get to post TOP right away, so here you go guys.

I don't think there's any spark there, at least not enough to start a relationship. And I have my doubts about Feron too. There may be a spark there, but he'll probably be dead before she completely moves on.

I do wonder if Liara is Shep's LI if Javik will kind of look after her if Shep dies.
