Also a small update on my fic, good news i wrote around 4k words today and finished a chapter. Bad news, I finished the last chapter sans epilogue and not the middle chapter of Recovery. So I guess the question is if any of you have read the first chapter and want to take a look at the last one acting as a beta reader for me without getting a peek at the meat in the middle hit me up ( I kid I'll give you a peek at what i have for the middle chapter to because I'm considering splitting it up depending on how much more writing it takes)
edit: also I am going to bed so if you do volunteer you prob won't here back from me till tomorrow, and Akernis I know I normally use you as a beta reader but I'm asking you to because I'm not sure if you want to read this thing out of order or not.

I frikken loved that vid! YOu did such an excellent job. I did however see it on( what I assume is your) tumblr first. Question: Where did the 'You know I love you. I always will.' come from?Is it exclusive to a new romance? (Props for picking control!)
I notice that the female shepards voice almost cracks, in all of the goodbye scenes.(The romance ones anyway.)
I agree with you, the video was very well-made and it's one of the best Liara tributes I've seen on YouTube.
As for your question, the line 'You know I love you. I always will' is from the Garrus romance version of the Normandy evacuation scene.

Very nice! Am I mistaken in thinking that you’ve tweaked the facial proportions slightly? Whether it’s that or the lighting, I quite prefer this look to some of the earlier ones.
I’m not one for blue ladies, but that aside, you’re wonderfully talented.

Off topic, but I have a question regarding ME1 DLC. I just got both BDtS and PS and I was wondering if I could play them in a play through that has already started. Could I just reload a save before my fourth main story mission, or do I have to get through this play through to play the DLC in the next?
BDtS is playable after the first citedel visit. Not sure about PS, someone else will have to answer that.
Edit: Spelling.

@ Pineapple/Ananas (Whichever you prefer to go by)
Your art (Yes I will refer to it a that) is firstly, very, very good. Secondly I think they're the only ones I have seen that do Liara justice and don't make her appear ****ty and overly sexualized. classy nude could be one way to describe it, but I dont think thats a good enough description.

So anyway, that was a good article, interesting to read. The author had a lot of good points even though I might not agree with every single thing. Thanks for sharing Aristobulus!

I'm more cynical than most in that I thought the series, as it was originally intended, basically died with Shepard at the opening of ME2. The feel of the two games is so radically different in structure and design that I'd almost put Mass Effect 2 down as one of the worst follow ups in the history of fiction. It discarded nearly everything from Mass Effect, it dumped the cast, the style pretty much every single aspect that defined Mass Effect as a slow plodding Star Trek style of sci-fi in a grounded universe with clear rules and logic.
Now suddenly you're working for a Bond Villian who wears an evil suit, sits in an evil chair in his evil fortress of evil. People run around in cat suits with plunging necklines and have literal magical powers where they can drain people of life force or wirelessly transfer energy. You spend the entirity of that game either trying to get back what you lost at the beginning (Liara) or wasting time with this pointless side mission involving a non-threat known as The Collectors. Then the game ends on the exact same note as the first "The Reapers are coming and I'm going to find a way to stop them."
Shepard's death and reconstruction is absolutely wasted to the point that they actively downplay and make light of what could have been a genuinely interesting and thoughtful look at mortality and transhumanism. Instead it's just cheap one liners like "I got better" and the total flat out refusal to look at the effects of any of the extensive and radical augmentation you read about in the Research Terminal. It instead being just reduced to +10% Health per upgrade, with no thought to what would be complex concepts such as losing your humanity or even transcending the limitations or bonds of the human race as it exists and whether or not that is a geniunely deseriable state of bing.
So after all that wasted potential I just kinda resigned myself to the fact that ME3's story would rely on a Deus Ex Machina to resolve the Reapers since they wasted the second game not finding a way to beat them and the plot would be really weak and stupid. Though they did shock me with how horrible the endings were, I must admit I didn't see that coming since I assumed they'd play it safe and add some pretty generic endings. I really only bought the game because FemShep and Liara would be in it and Liara would be back in the squad, I didn't buy it for the plot.
I don't know exactly what the point of all this was other than it seems like a lot of people are also lamenting what could have been, just at different times. At one point or another we all had real hope that this was a series that could really be special and it all just slowly rotted away over time. To the point where we had to fight to just be content with the ending to the game as opposed to bitterly disappointed and angry. I bet we'd all have been shocked if you told us months ago we'd have to fight this hard to get something as average as the EC, that we'd all be hoping the series didn't end with Shepard dying for no reason and the galaxy being either trashed or changed beyond all recognition or comprehension.
Someone pass the Scotch and make it the good stuff.
People often say that it was the last 10 minutes of ME3 that killed the series, but in retroperspective, the first 10 minutes of ME2 was when the whole thing started to go off the rails. Its clear now that they had no real goal and just made it up as they went alomg. I think ME2 was perhaps treated as some sort of writing playground by Bioware, where they could do and add whatever the hell they wanted to the story and franchise, which is why we winded up with a complete new cast and catsuits in space, all while not really thinking about the series long term viability. And because of all this, the quality of ME3 suffered for it. It had to pick up the pieces and conclude the main-plot which was not advanced in ME2, it also had to juggle with the 16 squadmates and provide them satisfying screentime and conclusions. Something it obviously could not hope to achieve, leaving fans of ME2 feel left out.
As for the bolded part. Spot on, it always infuriates me seeing people saying ME2 had the best intro. Aside from the ME3 endings I think M2's intro is the worst thing Bioware has shat out yet.

It's just the concept of the picture series to be all about playing with elements of analogue b&w photography, about light and shadow and plasticity and almost extreme contrasts (and naturally all that brings quite a bit of abstraction with it as well).
But as I told Akernis recently on DA, it would certainly be a shame to confine the radiant blue of Liara's eyes to the b&w "corset" permanently, so let's see what the future will bring ...

However you managed to arrive here, great to see you on the current end of things again!
Regarding the EC, I think I'm pretty much fine with it.
We allready knew, the endings wouldn't change too much. And while I generally agree with the article and the many problems - old and new - it discusses, the EC did manage to bring some sort of emotional satisfaction to the trilogy's end. I guess that's what it's all about for me ultimately.
I tend to take a very "relaxed" approach to game's stories in general because gameplay and technology and production will allways demand a certain degree of sacrifice. And there was enough evidence for that in ME even before the desaster of an ending, just not of the same scale. So as long as it doesn't get toooo bad and there is some other form of payoff I'm willing to fill holes myself and don't think too much about the "what could have been" but concentrate on the good.
And there's certainly enough of that in the EC to motivate me to return to the "ME1 - ME3 with a new character in one go" playthrough I started ages ago, to make fanart again and peek in here ...

Another amazing job, just like the two BW 'photos' before it. I loved the idea (and the execution!) since I saw the first one and I'm just thrilled to see you continue this amazing series (for a while I was worried you might have abandoned the idea).
For me, these pictures work so well precisely because they're B&W and because they focus solely on Liara, with no distracting scenery or background; all of this helps to convey an intense and unique sense of intimacy and sensuality. And, for some reason I can't even articulate or explain, it all just makes Liara seem more real, to a degree I haven't seen in literally any other screenshot or render.
I honestly can't help but think of one of my favourite quotes: "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away".
Hm, okay, raving fanboy mode off...
A good read, it covers most of the problems with ME3's ending in general and how they've been changed with EC. Sadly, I have to agree with most of what's written in the article - and there's a LOT written in it, since there's a lot of crap in the ending to write about.Aristobulus500 wrote...
http://ferretbrain.c...les/article-876
Don't know if this article has been posted, but it's pretty interesting.
It also has a decent explanation why the Reject ending is just as (in)valid as the other three; a couple relevant quotes:
"The only difference between beating the Reapers by using the Crucible (a device which they know about, are capable of destroying and, on some level, seem to actively control, and which the Galactic Alliance doesn't even know how to operate) and defeating the Reapers without using the Crucible is that the designers have decided (wholly arbitrarily) that “use the Crucible” is the right answer."
---
"We simply do not know enough about the Reapers, the Crucible, the Starchild or anything else to accept that the Crucible is our only hope for victory. Indeed it seems fairly clear that the Crucible is on some level controlled by the very enemy we built it to defeat, which makes the decision not to use it an extraordinarily sensible one."
And I agree with something I've myself realised in the days since EC - there should have been a diplomatic reject victory. If you did certain quests 'right', if you recruited the right experts for the Crucible project, if you have enough charisma, if you explored the right dialogue branches with Catalyst to figure out he's just a blabbering delusional AI, and maybe got some more prerequisites, I think you should have been able to go all Jean-Luc Picard on his ass, get him to drag his and the Reapers' sorry butts out of our galaxy.
