@ Donk: thanks for sharing that with us.

And I almost worry Liara's POV will start to get old very quickly. Then again, first-person & present tense is my preferred style for touching / emotionally-invested scenes, so, I dunno...

I don't speak for everyone but I've always been intrigued by Liara's PoV because there's so much depth there, many things that are different than a human's perception of things. While it's more difficult to portray it, I believe that it can be more interesting, depending on the fic, of course. I'm all for any PoV!

Same here, so far your fics have done an amazing job at being touching and emotionally-invested.

That doesn't mean however that the Male version of Shep cares about Liara any less.

I did not mean that male Shepard cares any less for Liara since that is obviously up to the player, I meant that Meer personally is less interested in Liara than Hale is, Jennifer outright said that Liara is her favourite romance choice. I would say that (as far as my limited knowledge of such things go) that even a skilled profesional voice actor would, wether conciously or unconsciously, put more effort into the romance dialog with the character they care more about since it is more genuine.

No matter, I would have preffered more emotion being displayed, to each his/her own.

I thought Meer's performance was pretty much the same across the board, no matter who the love interest is. I know a few days ago someone had posted that they had the impression that he puts more emotion into his lines with Tali during the beam rush, but I didn't see it. I thought his performance is the same regardless of whether the scene involves Liara, Tali, or Ashley as the LI.

Was anyone else suprised by that scene? My first time through Lair of the Shadow Broker I went in unspoiled, and was just expecting a simple revenge mission. I knew Liara would of course end up killing the Shadow Broker, but I never expected that she would then co-opt his network.

Awesomely epic moment, though. Image IPB

Alright fellas, I am happy to show you the long promised picture (if anyone even remembers) of Liara that was painted by my dear mother. I (and my mother, ofcourse) hope you like it! :)
The quality of the picture is REALLY not good, and I apoligize for that.

Man, I really love this painting! Like others have already said, I think your mother has managed to capture Liara's ME1 looks perfectly, especially her eyes. Give your mother my regards and tell her I love this pic, went right on the list of my favourite Liara pics ^_^. If you consider that a poor quality pic I wonder how great that painting looks irl.

Are we comparing Meer and Hale's voice acting again?? Pleaso no, these things always end bad. Though I'd like to throw my two cents in anyway. Different people usually express their feelings differently. I myself have never had any problems with Meer's delivery (perhaps his way of expressing Shep's emotions is close to mine, who knows), but as I said, people are different. some think Hale's delivery is more "realistic" and fits better for them, while other's like Meer's better. So I think it's not about which one is a better VA (they're both great) or which one's delivery is better, but which voice actor fits better for player's (or that particular Shep's you're RPing) personality and for your way of expressing your emotions. When expressing exactly the same emotion or feeling,  someone can, for instance, be crying hysterically while other can simply state his/her feelings with few simple words, without expressing it in any other way, physically for example, but the feeling itself can be just as strong in both cases.

I also think Han Shot First has a pretty good point that it's one thing saying good bye to your true love when you're in a normal situation, but completely the other when you're in the middle of a battle, your body is full of adrenalin and other stuff like that. I ofc have no first hand experience of such situation but I could imagine that makes things a little different.

I certainly was. It was truly an epic moment combined with incredible music, and I didn't see it coming. And to be honest, as much as I like Liara as the Shadow Broker now, my first thought when I saw her thinking of answering the call was for her to drop it. It wasn't until she told Shepard in the most honest manner possible that she was going to use the resources of the Shadow Broker for good and to help people when I truly believed her that she would. If anybody could put these resources into good use, it's definitely Liara.

I agree with Cohina on the VA. As he said different people have different ways of expressing emotion. I think I'm more similar to Meer in this way. I don't often show a ton of emotion. Looking at the evac scene, some people have said they cried at that part. I didn't cry, but that doesn't mean I wasn't feeling the same emotions they were. I felt Meer did an excellent job of showing both the intense pain at leaving Liara behind once again and the resolve he has to end this war once and for all.

Okay, okay I surrender Image IPB, I wasn't trying to upset the fragile balance of voice actor opinions, as said on the whole I really like Meer's acting and always play Mshep, just was really impresed with hale's vocie acting in that scene was all.

I certaily had no idea, I knew nothing about the DLC other than we would help Liara take down the Shadow Broker, if I had thought it throught logically I might have come to some conclosion that they had to do something to prevent her from being a squadmember in the game but that never hit me until a long time after.

I was worried about it for her sake, but I was just relieved that she opened up and could be herself again. And I too trust her to do the right thing, especially as long as she and Shepard had each other to lean on for moral support.

Nah, don't take it so literally, I just like to always exaggerate things a bit, that was just supposed to be a humorous reference to these infamous MShep/FShep fights, though I think I failed to deliver the humour part this time :D. My thoughts about that whole VA thing weren't directed to anyone in particular, just spoke about that thing in general you know. So no worries Akernis ^_^.

I like this, even though I prefer Liara's later looks. I think this captures the features Liara had in ME1. The brighter blue skin and eyes, even the armor.

I don't think I posted about it, Donk, but yeah that is a really well done painting - my only complaint is that I like her lipstick as the darker colors in ME2 and ME3 - because to me that comes across almost as if she's not wearing lipstick at all and it's just her natural lip colors.

Okay, good to hear. I have a habbit of exaggerating things and using sarcasm and things like that, as a rhetorical device when I speak. The problem is, it's not always so obvious if I'm being serious or not, and I know that myself too, especially when you can't hear the tone of my voice, see the facial expressions or you don't know me well enough to understand what I actually mean, which is the case here in the internetz. I got to try to be more obvious with my talks in the future I suppose :P.

But now this one is off to bed -_-.

Do you think Liara could be the sort of person interested in earths culture and history? Also do you think Liara would be interested in visiting earth? In a lot of fan fics you see shepard and Liara in Thessia. But why not earth?

Of course, why wouldn't she be? She's always been interested in finding out more about other species, about discovery and knowledge in general, and she has all the more reason to find out more about Earth's culture and history when she gets to know who Shepard is. From what we've learned, Liara has very positive views of humans, so finding out more about them would definitely be something that she will want to do. It's in her inquisitive nature.

And yes, Liara would eventually visit Earth some day for the very same reasons.

Definitely. Liara's an intellectual, she prizes knowledge for its own sake and loves to learn. If you take her along on the Genophage mission, she comments on how she would have loved to have gone to the City of the Ancients on Tuchanka 'in her younger years' to study it. I think Asari by nature are interested in other cultures and species; it's a consequence of their 'strongly exogamous' reproductive preferences.

I don't think she'd be too interested in human pop culture, but sites like the Pyramids or Pompeii or Machu Picchu would probably fascinate her.

I always thought it would be cool if one of the alien crew members had asked about the name of the ship. The Normandy invasion was probably the most important battle in modern history yet it's never mentioned despite being emblazoned upon the side of the ship. I think it's something Garrus or Liara would find interesting.

As already said absolutely, I believe the reason for fics with Shepard and Liara is set on Thessia to be two-fold. firstly authors are probably interested in exploring Thessia and can really let loose their imagination. Secondly while Liara would no doubt be interested in visiting Earth I think that as a place to live she would by far prefer Thessia.
