Quick question, onboard the Normandy during the evacuation scene who told Joker to leave in yours?I brought Garrus and Liara to the beam so Ashley told Joker to go in mine. I heard its whoever you talk to most frequently on the Normandy excluding those who run with you to the beam, I could be wrong though:whistle:

I brought Garrus and Liara with me to the beam and wound up having Javik (who I'd never taken with me on a mission) tenderly telling Joker that they had to leave.  It was strange.

“I will throw her out— Wait, she already is outside the airlock. Let us leave, frail pilot man.”

"Okey, Prothy the Prothe...."  Airlock noise.

Shepard’s not all that synthetic. (I really dislike the silly implication in the Catalyst’s talk — everybody with prosthetics is a cyborg?)

Significantly enhanced, but largely only with already available parts (even if slightly more state-of-the-art)…but mostly still a creature of flesh. I’ve got lots of little nanobots in Shepard, helping to stave off cellular degradation etc.

This’ll give Eevs a fair bit longer than the average human (provided she stops getting shot at/blown up/stabbed/etc.) but ultimately I think I’m banking on medical technology making advances.

I took Liara and Kaidan to the beam.

With Joker, it was Garrus and Sam.

Javik came out of the Normandy with Liara.

At the wall scene, Sam was missing.

So we're just looking at destroy and control.  I'm not arguing for one of the other, they both have merits.  I for one picked destroy because I'm a sucker for happy endings and I wanted my Shep to reunite with Liara.  Destroy was the only choice that allowed this.  It was an easy decision not just because of the living Shep at the end, but because the destroy ending was the one we'd been working towards for 3 whole games.  It seemed in line with what Shepard had always thought and wanted.

BUT!!!!  (see the bold and italics and underlining?!!!  That means something important is coming...)

What if even with the Destroy ending Shep died, and the ONLY ending with a possibility of Shep and Liara reuniting, of Shep living was Synthesis.

My question:

Would you then choose this?

Me: hell yes!  (what?  I didn't say I was a big enough person to let the whole "egomanical, choosing for everyone" moral repercussions stop me from my happy Liara ending dammit!)

I do have one Shepard who, if she ever makes it to ME3 will absolutely choose synthesis, because she's an angry Earthborn who just wants peace.  Ironically, she's my only Shepard without an LI.

Most of my other Shepards probably wouldn't choose Synthesis, even if it was the only 'happy' ending choice.  I have one Paragon who might, since he's a bit dim and tends to take people at their word (yes, even the Starchild), but except for the power-mad nega!Shep, they're all going for destroy.  Every time.  We have not spent years working on ways to kill the Reapers to ultimately do anything but that.

I feel completely justified in this when EDI's voiceover mentions that maybe mortality is no longer going to be an issue.  That's just... a terrible idea.

It's either Garrus or Ashley, depending on who I brought with me to the beam. And yes, it's the person you talked to the most.

Now, who was the third person to exit the Normandy on that paradise world for you all? Because, I always get Javik in my games for some odd reason..

Yeah when I did my playthrough Javik stepped off of the crashed Normandy, I wonder if he'll still go through with his promise to top himself in my playthrough, that's abit of a downer after- thought though:( Live for Liara Javik, write the book instead:whistle:

Also yes, hi again guys. Back now and feeling better. Still working on that fanfic, promise. X-D I had a bit of a problem last weekend with computer crashing out and stuff and week been a bit all over the place. Some more work tonight and tomorrow I think. Finished over this weekend (barring any more horrendous computer problems). ;)

IMHO, Liara is making a troll face in that picture.  Sort of like the intoxicated!Tali version of the conversation with Javik where she says "you do care about us!"

Torture the grumpy Prothean!  With overblown displays of affection!  That's my interpretation, and I'm sticking to it.

Does Destroy still have the vapourize option where it burns the Earth to a blackened crisp and blows up the Normandy and kills everyone on it? Cause if it does I'll take that over Synthesis.

So you'd rather killing many, many, many people, because you don't want every living creature to glow in the dark?

I always have him look at it I don't like the implication of Shepard telling him to not look at it, especially when he asks if Shepard would want to remember her crew and these times even if they ended in pain in loss.

As far as I'm concerned for every single Shepard of mine the answer would be yes without hesitation, no matter what happened or how tragic the end they'd never want to forget Liara or their friends. You avoid the pain of the bad but it costs you the joy of the good and that's a price too steep to pay.

So Javik always kills himself in my little universe.

Yes I'd rather take the entire galaxy down with the Reapers than spare them, they deserve death for what they are. The war with them will only end one of two ways either they exterminate all us or we exterminate all of them, there will be no peace and no compromise.

All the discussion about life spans and ageing... am I the only one that headcanons Shepard actually outliving Liara? Hm, probably am, I can be weird that way.

Not really I thought about the same thing Shepard not being really aware that she's that synthetic, looks in the mirror after 150 years and hasn't aged a day. The Human members of her team start passing away, then the aliens, even the Krogan Wrex and Grunt are gone. Their expected lives being totally reversed as Liara's face grows gaunt with the passing centuries and Shepard still looking like a 30 year old. As the genuine fear starts to set in that she'll out live even Liara and be the last ragged forgotten relic of a war the Galaxy only reads about in textbooks.

A living legacy that nobody will even believe is the actual legendary Commander Shepard, vanquisher of the dread Reapers. Or cursed by the Reapers to see time as they do, as punishment for the defiance of the cycle.

Though that last one is a little magicky, even if the totally shattered endings could support the concept.

An interesting read, very poetic for a forum post. You secretly been writing fanfics we don't know about? :)

I should have specified though, I don't have Shepard living that long because of her cybernetics; it's actually thanks to space magic medical science :wizard:. There's much more to it, but I honestly don't feel like writing the wall-o-text needed to explain all the associated headcanon =]

Clearly there's no need to be more like them when you sound like one anyway.

But speaking of which... in Synthesis, if Liara preserves Shepard's memories well enough... if Shepard had a greybox, she could be the beneficiary of Liara's recovered memories and perhaps return to life in the same way that Keiji has been confirmed to. Plus be effectively immortal. It may be that she and Liara can have a happy ending in this version after all... especially if the Synthesis alterations allow for them to still have children anyway.

Ok, folks, here's a question that PMC and I discussed not too long ago;
What do you think Liara's flaws are?

I had a hard time seeing, perhaps being distracted by the blue, but I also figured that her naivette was a notable flaw and her inexperience around people made her an easy target.

Fast forward to ME2 and lo and behold, (and this is what I recall from PMC's and My conversation) Liara's more concerned about taking down the Shadow Broker because he was better than she was. She don't like being talked down to, as evidenced by Javik's condescending behavior in ME3.

What say you folks?

Liara is prone to obsessive focus on one thing, which can be both a good and a bad thing.

In the interest of accuracy, and assuming no untoward events, Grunt would outlive Liara. Wrex himself is already something like 1400, and asari croak around a thousand.

Er, happy thought of the day.

They’re releasing a DLC that gives everyone the dumb?

(Semi-seriously, perhaps we should end the ending discussion before it gets ugly?)

Nothing will change what the Reapers are, monuments to genocide and needless death. Whatever collective thoughts are in those husks they are not the thoughts of those butchered to create them, those killed by the Reapers and to make Reapers are dead. That a computer system could mimic their thoughts is irrlevent to me, it does not make those individuals alive, ascended or preserved.

To leave any Reapers alive is an insult to those who fought and died trying to resist them.

EDIT: Because I should really catch up on some things before going off on a really unrelated tangent.

I don't fancy myself as much of a writer, every now and then I have a good post or a well done sentence that's about it.
I'd personally just put Shep's longevity up there with the same reasons
Krogan live so long, they've got like 3 extra versions of a every vital
organ. The game does say Shepard has some "Extra bits and pieces" and I didn't see an 11th digit or a bolt coming out the neck . . .

A good point! Though he tends to get in a lot of trouble so there probably would be one those events sooner rather than later.

Jeez we're not very good at this happy thought of the day stuff.
