That would be my take on it as well, that they are equal and that both of them are assertive, neither is actually "dominating" but both may take the lead depending on situation etc.The Lightspeaker wrote...

As for Liara... I admit, I do find the concept of domLiara to be rather hot.
Yup. For my Shep as their relationship develops they're both comfortable with either taking the "dominant" role

Curious, that you would pick that 'short-lived species' line as an example, I never got any kind of condescending feeling from that, intentional or otherwise; it's just a statement of fact, she was often quite clinically factual in her speech back then (probably attributed to the common 'walking encyclopaedia' impression).PMC65 wrote...
It starts at the beginning ... When Ashley compliments Liara looking great at 106 Liara is quick to say "for a short-lived species ..." Smack! I think asari do this not out of spite or meanness though.
Liara has lines throughout the trilogy that can be rough if you take the right tree choices ... There are many choices in the red path that show Liara to be not so innocent ... and I love that. Shepard and Liara can also argue if you pick the right (or wrong if you don't like conflict in relationships) choices.
I personally like Liara in her haughty and angry moments as it shows her less imperfect sides. Too perfect and a a character becomes boring and/or creepy.
Besides, she says herself she's not used to dealing with humans and that she tends to always say something embarrassing, so I can't hold it against her if she ever did unknowingly say something that might seem offensive or condescending. Might as well take offence with Wrex being rowdy or Mordin talking too fast
I agree with most of the other things you said though, especially about liking her even more for her imperfections.
Also a question, it kind of ties into the whole imperfections discussion - iirc you mentioned you played through the Ardat-Yakshi monastery mission a day or two ago and you brought Liara with you. Any comment on the (albeit brief) interaction between Liara and Samara? To me it seemed like Liara had that cold, disdainful tone she sometimes uses when dealing with people or situations she doesn't approve of. Seemed weird to see her talk to a Justicar in a way she otherwise does to the likes of Wreav or Javik (when he pisses her off) or what's-his-name-that-replaces-Kirrahe.
Yep, I agree, got the same impression from the in-game sex scenes. Even in the ME1 scene it seems like it's her taking charge, at least at the startCrimsonN7 wrote...

Well if the sex scenes we see in- game are anything to go by then yep, my Shep wouldn't mind letting her be the Commander:whistle: Even the look she gives Shep before she approaches your bed in ME3 man it would make you blush:wub:
That's why it always bothers me when most fanfic writers portray Liara as a more submissive type.

Liara is a much more skilled lover then Shepard ... asari have a gift in that area ... and so while Shepard may believe that she is in control it is just an illusion that Liara allows. When Liara does pull back the curtain and shows Shepard her skills ... Shepard is always left a little speechless!
EDIT: frudi - Ashley was complimenting Liara and that was her response? Not a thank you or a "well, I am young for an asari." No, she highlights the lack of years we live. Factual? Yes. But she could have said it different. Javik also says things that are factual ... does that make him less arrogant? No. Facts do not give a person license to be rude and the comment had it been aimed at you might not have seemed so "factual" but jerkish.

I think they do because Liara is a virgin in ME1, while Shepard isn't. Also, Shepard is far more extroverted than Liara. However, that's far from all the determining criteria...Yep, I agree, got the same impression from the in-game sex scenes. I got that as well, I don't think it is that strange; a Justicar follows their code no matter what, and that code is not only extremely strict but only takes consideration for law not individual morals, Samara's code would have her kill her daugther if she did not commit suicide for examble.Xilizhra wrote...

Liara has her own very strong morals that stands apart from the lawful black/white of the Justicar, furthermore at the point of the Adat-Yaksi Monestary Liara has become the Shadow Broker, which - despite Liara using the position "honestly" and with her morals intact and to help others - is still one of the most illicit positions in the galaxy.
While I am very glad we never get to see it in-game I would not be surprised that if Samara learned Liara's position that the Justicar Code would command her to try to either apprehend or kill Liara, I would never allow that to happen of course, but I would rather not have to fight Samara over it.

Yeah my Shep is just putty in her hands, yes ma'am anything you say, perfectly happy to let Liara take the reins, she knows what she's doing, all asari do, ahem best lay in the galaxy:whistle: I think Rae's work just shows how assertive Liara can be:wub:

Don't know if it would necessarily have to be the "complete dump", but other than that I agree. Would have been nice if there was a bigger difference between the two paths. Guess it's just one more of many instances where the game suffered from the discrepancy between BWs ambition and budget.
It was annoying because I had saves just to see the 'consequences of a **** Shepard, and you get pretty much nothing.
Unless you dumped Miranda in ME3...then..YOUR A BAD PERSON!
Re:Thane
HE was going to die, it was inevitable. Whats funny is if you dump him in ME2, he mentions it in ME3 by saying 'We both knew this would hapen siha."(or something along those lines)

^ Which is why I prefer the Renegade romance..(With the exception of the break-up and really bad lines.)
I didn't even mind the EC 'youll just slow me down' line. Renegade in ME3 makes a much better soldier in parts.
Wrex Showdown is my favorite Renegade moment.(great writing which most will never see..)

I would have been pretty stoked if there had been some little dialogue scene between these two, anything regarding asari culture always peaks my interest and I would have loved to have known what Samara thinks of Liara and Shep's bond? Also how would Liara greet a Justicar, how do the younger asari interact with the elders of their communities, what is expected of them, if they defy their elders wishes what are the consequences as we know they greatly respect the wisdom of the Matriarchs and so on. Samara was one of my fav squadmate from ME2, I loved hearing her stories and otherworldly wisdom, such an interesting character.

Hmph. Don't let it happen again.
I wanted to find a good "dominant Liara" pic to contribute but I kinda thought after how googling "Liara Omni-Tool" turned out, it probably wouldn't be a good idea.
But I did find this! I thought it was cute.

With Liara I like a good mix ... getting her angry on Illium in ME2 is sexy! And now I am thinking of that scene in Italian! Would the word delizioso fit?
EDIT: karmen ... don't google liara + javik either!

OMG It's the Biotic God, I think he died and went to heaven, us mere mortals were never ready for his greatness:lol: Although in that scene Yuqi the renegade option is epic, and Jack's "that was mean but damn funny" line makes me lol whenever I take her with me:D

I guess I just take it that Liara wouldn't see Ashley's comment as a compliment, rather as ignorance (not ill-meaning, just that Ash might genuinely not be aware how long asari live) or a joke (and we know how good she is at understanding human humour at that pointPMC65 wrote...

I just chalk the whole exchange up to interspecies misunderstanding.
Yes, I got the same feeling she doesn't like Justicars at all. I understand there's professional reasons for that (being the shadow broker and all), but it seemed much more than that. I suppose she might just that strongly disapprove of the Justicar's compassionless black & white approach to morality and justice. It just struck me as odd that Liara would show such obvious disdain when Justicars are traditionally supposed to be highly revered.Akernis wrote...

PMC does bring up a good point that her attitude seemed different in ME2 and it might be more about Samara than Justicars in general. Then again, she knew her office was bugged, possibly by the asari government, so she might have been deliberately careful when discussing Samara with Shepard.
Bah, ME3 messed up continuity all over the place anyway, who knows what to take into account any more...
Be sure to check out all the Lazarus project videos again, Liara has some comments on them.PMC65 wrote...

Killing Samara and falere makes her mad. I can never bring myself to do it.. Hmmn I always just use Renegade most of the time, I dont really take a neautral position on anything in me3.(Because you can't..cough)

So, I'm wiritng a fan fic to basically continue where a High EMS Destroy left off with Shepard's recovery and his friends sort of being by his side for the recovery.
I'm coming to you guys for a bit of help. During my play through the series, I never could get that into Liara's character. Anyways, I really want to do her character justice in the fic for fans of her character, but I'm having trouble writing her.
I was hoping you guys might give me some insight into her character and some advice on how to write her since you guys are her Fanbase.
The help would be much appreceated.
