There has been some talk recently on the boards about the Mass Effect movies.

If those things ever end up getting made, who do you think should play Liara? Pretending for a moment that you are the casting director, who would you want to cast? If Ali Hillis is your first choice, who would be your second if she were unavailable or the producers had made a decision not to cast the voice actors from the games?

Well I guess having Jilian Murray (forgot her exact name, the girl Liara is modeled after), while changing her voice through a computer program or something.
Though I'm really againt such a movie to be made, because usually movies that are made after video game really suck and they are just a disgrace to the game itself. I really don't want this to be the case with Mass Effect.

I does not really matter to me since I won't be invested in it anyway, I might watch it but there is no way it is going to do the game even remotely justice, even if they do everything (or what little they can fit in) as I did it still won't be or feel like my Shepard but just a Shepard. And I am really scared what they will do to the characters in it, since unlees Liara is written by Sylvia (or who wrote her in ME1), voiced by Ali and modelled after Julian it just won't be Liara to me.
In general I think a movie over any of the games is a horrible idea, if it had been about another part of the universe we don't know that much about like the first contact war, or a battle taking place during the Reaper War where Shep and company is not present I would have been ecstatic.
But as it is it is just going to feel wrong, especially since one of the most important thing, the interaction by the player is removed and a huge amount of the game will be dropped, and only a small group of the fans will actually be satified by the choices being made.
I just don't see the movie having any chance of being able to do the game justice.

I'd also rather not see the films get made, as I have no expectations of them being any good. Hollywood has a very poor track record with game-to-film-adaptations. But if they do get made and Ali Hillis isn't going to play Liara (guaranteed), my vote would be for Olivia Wilde.

She was good in Tron, and played a character that shared some similarities with Mass Effect 1 Liara. She's also got modelesque facial features, which would be requirement for any actress playing a character that is equal parts movie makeup and CGI, yet still has to look attractive despite that. (ex. Zoe Saldana in Avatar)

I have the same thoughts. It never worked before that a game-based movie was a hit. It was always the opposit...a piece of s**t...well most of the time. I hope we will never see that movie because in my opinion it would cause a big hole of frustration in the ME universe.

Yeah I would have very low expectations towards it myself, everyone's Shep is different, what will this Shep be like, who will be that Shep's LI? It will no doubt be a bro Shep anyway so I'm guessing Ashley will probably be the romance of choice, but I could be wrong. That Shep will just be an imposter to me anyway, I rather stick to my ingame Sheps, everyone's Shep is personal to them, we invested hours into the paths we forged for our Shep's, I won't care for this Shep, successful games that are turned into movies always bomb anyway, look at the Resident Evil movies, pure crap, great games god awful movies though:?

I actually rewatched Tron Legacy a few days ago and having Olivia Wilde to play Liara is not a bad idea.

I've said this before, but I just don't want to see a movie about Shepard, Liara or any of the main characters from the games. And it's not just that movies based on videogames tend to be at best barely watchable and at worst pretty much pieces of s**t. It's that I just don't see what good a movie can possibly bring us. A re-telling of the same old story we already know, just with characters that are entirely different than those we've come to know and love? Or maybe a new story that does little but mess up our own headcanon (and possibly game-canon as well)?
Nah, if videogame-based movies already don't work, I don't want to see how badly a movie based on a story- and character-driven role-playing game can fail :(

Akernis you basically said most of the reasons why such a movie would be a huge fail and an insult toward Mass Effect. Even if eveything will be perfect, it still won't feel Mass Effect to the watcher, since every player has it's own 'Shepard', his own LI, and such. A movie after an RPG game is a really bad idea.  I really don't want to see any actress being Liara. I love her the way she is- in the game, and no other way. I don't want any actress to spoil Liara for me, even if it would be a top class actress.

I'd have to agree. I love Liara the way she is - if anything is changed, it is no longer Liara.

I’m not sure I get the movie hate.

Y’all already have your own Shepards, it’s not like it’s taking anything away from me… A movie would be just another fanfic, or another piece of fan art…

I'd prefer a Mass Effect movie not based on the game. Anything else really, just a new story.

Yeah.

Those were HIGH-RES images of Liara. Where else would accept me?

Also I could not imagine a worse time to try to make a movie than right now, the garbage Hollywood has been cranking out isn't just sub-par it's been down right insulting. When Baysformers movies are what everyone is trying to imitate there is a severe lack of original thought in the studios. Those movies are just incoherent nonsense for 2 hours of excruciating, brain numbing, all out assault on the senses, commercial garbage.

The major studios don't make movies anymore they just make products, I mean they remade Spider Man already and they've got another Superman movie in the works. Hell once Christoper Nolan finishes the Dark Knight I doubt it will be a year before we see another batman movie without the guy either ripping off his style or just rebooting the whole thing again.

Really it's a question of how much a Mass Effect movie will suck not if. It'll just be another one of those movies that either gets everything wrong or completely ignores whatever the hell the game is about. I think the best Video Game movie ever is probably the Street Fighter movie, they got everyone in costume in the end and it had Raul Julia who is always awesome. Though given how BioWare themselves treat the franchise I can't see them betraying the fanbase much more than the original endings. We'll all just watch the trailer sigh heavily and feel dead inside.

Thankfully I always feel dead inside so I got a leg up on everyone else.

I don't know about that look at George Clooney in Batman and Robin, that movie was so goddamn awful, Clooney and Joel Schumacher almost singlehandedly ruined the Batman franchise themselves.:pinched: How many years did we have to wait until Christopher Nolan resurrected the Batman Universe. I love the Batman Franchise and it would pain me if this ME movie added more fuel to ME fans anger and disappointment, since the end of the trilogy was damaging enough in it's own right.<_< Movies based on games have a bad track record, I can't see this being any different, I hope I'm proved wrong but I doubt I will be:whistle:

You know there's a law against bringing that film up.

At least their non-ice related humour was just as terrible.

Hey that picture gave me an on-topic thought!

I really like how both Shepard and Liara share their pain over Thessia. Incredibly touching conversations aboard the Normandy afterwards.

A paragon hug option should have been inserted in that scene, man seeing her utterly dejected and distraught like that I just wanted both to be able to offer each other a little comfort in that scene, Shep was hurting too.:( But I guess Shep knew that Liara throwing herself into her work is how she usually copes with loss, taking her mind off their defeat to help the refugees was something productive she could do at the time. However a quick embrace like when you defeat the Shadowbroker or when Shep is comforting Tali during her loyalty mission added a nice touch to those moments. I just wanted Shep to show some compassion to Liara in that scene, not to give her bondmate another pep talk, Liara always asks how Shep is feeling, there to offer comfort if needed, I really would have loved for Shep to return the favour in that scene. Oh well what's done is done:whistle:
