Yep pretty much expressing how uniquely alien and exotic the joining is, you completely give all that you are to your partner, mind, body and soul, forever changed through the experience. Didn't know you had a huge demand for more mature content, Rae handles it well in those fics, her other work is an acquired taste, but I still enjoy it nonetheless:whistle:

If you're interested Jen since Aristo mentioned Rae's work I thought this story might give you some ideas, it's not explicit, more romantic than anything, expresses the love between Shep and Liara quite well. It's light-hearted fluff but still very enjoyable, funny and sweet;) A nice melding scene in chapter 4, Shep is a real romantic gal in this one:wub:

And melding can be used for many other things than just sex and it is what makes the asari so unique. It's just nice to see it used in fanfics when it fits the scene. Melding - melding everywhere!

I really wish we got more insight into who Benezia was before she became a slave to Saren's control, I loved it when Liara opened up on the date scene and give us that lil fond memory of how kind, beautiful and wonderful her mother was in her eyes. Benezia was such an influential person in Liara's life, I would have liked to have heard Liara talk about how difficult it was for her to defy her mother's wishes and why they never tried to contact one another after decades apart. However angry you were at the time, it's not healthy to hold a grudge that long, you're still family. That scene when Liara talks to Benezia before she dies is so sad, all that lost time, Benezia adored her.

Although Benezia's role is fairly small, she was the most tragic villain in the series. Saren, Kai Leng, and the Illusive Man were all morally repugnant people long before succumbing to Reaper indoctrination. Although we don't know a lot about Benezia's backstory, the bits and pieces we do have portray her in a positive light prior to her indoctrination. Even when she went to Saren, it was a peacemaker. She was hoping to negotiate with Saren and talk him into a less violent path, and lost her free will because of it.

I personally believe Benezia was a very good mother to Liara besides all that. I also wish we could learn more about her and taking care of little Liara. There is so much to tell hehe.

I think Benezia was kind of a mixed bag as a mother.

While they do seem to have had a very close and loving relationship prior to Liara going off to college, what little we do know about Benezia seems to imply that she was also a little controlling. We are told for example that Benezia was trying to guide Liara into a career path similar to her own, while Liara instead chose a career in archaeology. Benezia was apparently disappointed that her daugher was choosing to pursue a career that delved into the past, rather than one that was active in shaping galactic events. 

We are also told that Liara and Benezia had been estranged for many years. While Liara's choice of career is not directly linked by in game dialogue to the rift with her mother, I think we can assume that it was the cause.

With that in mind I think Benezia was a well-intentioned and loving mother, but was also very stubborn and slightly domineering.

To be fair to Benezia however, I think Liara may also have a bit of her mother's stubborness. After all it takes two people to keep a rift going that long. She also of course defies her mother's wishes in pursuing a career in archaeology, which is the very definition of stubborn.

I loved it when Aethyta and Liara talked about Benezia, both of them really admired and loved her. I've never done a playthrough where I told Aethyta to stop spying on Liara or to agree with Liara and not twist her arm to meet her Dad. I wonder how Liara would have turned out if Aethyta had a hand in bringing her up?

Not trying to reopen 5xB gate or anything but when I found this I had to share it, Moreeman would approve me thinks:P

On Liara, the military, and paragon hugs...

I know I'm sort of digging up a topic from a few pages back, but I came across this today and thought it might be relevant to the discussion about whether Shepard hugging Liara after Thessia would be unrealstic:







Rarely did such an emotional photo emerge from a war. It was taken in the Haktong-ni area of South Korea by career combat news photographer Al Chung on August 28th 1950; the photo showed a grief-stricken American infantryman being comforted by a comrade. The details about his grief were a matter of debate. Some said he just learnt his best friend had been killed, while some say it can be attributed to a more banal reason–he just learnt that his replacement as a radio operator had been killed.
 
The photo was also a study in contrasts: in the background, it also showed a corpsman sifting through casualty information and filling in the name of the newly fallen, ignoring the emotional outburst besides him as if he was giving his comrades a moment of privacy. The photo was featured in Edward Steichen’s celebrated “Family of Man” photography exhibit in 1955 at New York’s Museum of Modern Art and subsequently been reproduced in many newspapers, magazines, books and museums.

I still stand by my wish for there to have been a paragon hug option available in that scene. No matter how much we think Shep can be a machine at times, god-damn it he/she is still human, with emotions and feelings like everyone else. Showing a vulnerable side at times does not mean you're weak.<_<

Yeah, that's what I recall too, that he died, therefore the question mark. My guess would be that this piece of fan art has been made before ME3 when it seemed Tali and Kal'Reegar could possibly be a future couple, and Kal'Reegar was still alive back then of course.
