Yeah, the whole "some deaths will be unavoidable, and out of Shepard's control" thing has me terrified.

The only unavoidable squad deaths have been Jenkins and that jerk from the beginning of ME2 whose name escapes me.

I guess it all largely depends on what kind of decision it is. Shepard and Liara seem to see eye to eye on most things, especially if you play paragade as I do. I think if Shepard does something really against Liara's morale, she's not going to act nice and pretend it isn't bothering her, she's definitely confronting Shepard about it. The clip you linked was pretty consistent with how I think Liara would confront Shepard. She wouldn't resort to flaming though...

I would love such a scene between Shepard and Liara. Have a mostly paragon Shepard become a bit too renegade in ME3. Then have Liara confront Shepard about it.

Virmire has an unavoidable death.

An unavoidable death doesn't necessarily have to be a specific character. It could be a point in the story where someone always dies, but who dies is determined by Shepard's actions.

I think as far as squadmates go that is probably the route Bioware would take. I wouldn't rule out scripted deaths for important characters who aren't on the squad however. (Captain Anderson, Udina, the Council, ect)

I also assume Andersson will get killed in ME3. To me, an unavoidable death concerns a fixed character at a fixed time, aka scriped death. I do not want any of those if it concerns squadmembers. I'm actually fine with squad members getting killed (provided not all of them get killed) as long as I can somehow influence who lives and who dies. Of course, squad members dying just for the drama (eg getting killed in a situation it was easily possible to get out from alive) is weak and BW should stay away from this.

I agree that Bioware should avoid scipted deaths for squadmates.

I think it should be impossible to get your entire team through without casualties, but who lives & dies should be determined by the player's actions or choices.

Liara (as an LI/squad mate) isn't going to have a scripted and unavoidable death. I mean, there has to be some pre-final battle lovin' going on (Hillis seems to have recorded a love scene recently if you go by her Twitter). They won't kill her off unavoidably after that...'twould be cruel.

I think that's exactly the point. Player gets all attached to a character and then they get killed off.

Mind you if Liara or any of my other favourite squaddies have scripted deaths in ME3 it'll make later playthroughs no fun at all, just how Dragon Age 2 never changed no matter what you tried to do ... you'll go in knowing that at point X character Y is going to be killed and there's nothing you can do about it .... :crying:

That would be awfull indeed. I imagine I won't be able to play ME3 for days should Liara get killed. Any new playthrough through ME3 would always be overshadowed by Liara's death. I can honestly say if Liara got kiled it would probably ruin the entire series for me.

ETA: Live Q/A with casey hudson on BW TV right now. Femshep reveal in a few minutes if all goes as planned.

I guess it's the best choice. They started with a redhead in ME1, it's only natural they end with her as well. Doesn't matter for me since I play almost exclusively maleshep but nice for those who prefer femshep.

Indeed. Good to know I can finally get a HD and high quality version of the default Femshep face (so to speak).

Death should not be dreaded, as long it has meaning.

But if Liara dies, there will be nothing to stop my Shepard from going completely psycho and blowing up the entire galaxy. Just saying.

If Liara dies unavoidably i will have to sacrifice the entire galaxy, with the condition the reapers make a human and an asari type of their kind, and make Liara's and Shep's mind on them, so we can have our creepy eternal love ending :pinched:

How about a hopelessly romantic and sad ending instead? If Liara dies then Shepard will sacrifice himself in the end to finish the reapers. Many Asari believe in the afterlife so they'll at least be together. Right?

Right :crying:

But honestly, that would kill any replayability for me, all my Sheps romanced Liara, and she became the reason for what they keep fighting for

Right!  I rather work my tail off and get my happy ever after ending though.

Shepard promises to always come back.  After all this speculation, we now need Liara to promise Shepard, she is always coming back.  :P

I think Liara will be alright. At least if you try hard enough. Similar to Virmire.

But I hope they make her death avoidable, so they can use her in a 500 years later sequel.

I'm not sure how it would feel if ME4 took place 400 years or so after ME3 and had Liara in it. Even though Shepard would've been gone for about 200 years already, I'd still feel jealous if Liara were with someone else. To avoid it, I think no further than ME3. I'm hoping (same as everyone here) for a happily ever after ending, not even thinking about the eventual death of Shepard. Having Liara come back in another ME game would just remind me. As such, no more Liara after ME3 please.

Even if they wanted to use her in a sequel, she'd need to have plot armor in ME3 as well. I'm perfectly fine with this but there are a lot of people who can't stand the fact their LI can die in the SM and they have no way to get Liara killed. I'm afraid eventually BW will cater even to the haters so I highly doubt Liara again has plot armor in ME3.

I can't see how, in a game that touts multiple endings, marriage, old age and a lot of little blue children would not be an option.
