karmensandiego - Are you saying that women who want to have their own children would not be with Liara? What would it be like if Liara was there when Shepard had a baby? She would be a cute coach and teaching her how to brush a little girl's hair would be priceless.

Not to mention all the potential hilarity as Liara struggles to figure out how to raise a human child :D. It's not something many asari face; she probably doesn't even have any other asari to turn to for counsel so she's even more out of her element. In my headcanon it's actually a source of quite some (sweet kind of) anxiety for Liara :)

I think so too ^_^

frudi - And think about how the two children would interact ... That thought makes me laugh.

There is a lot of potential in mixing a family. I may only want a human child and others only an asari child, but I think those that mix are getting the best of both worlds and a lot of funny moments.

Huh, I thought I was the only one who had a Shepard who wanted human kids. Although, she's probably going to go the route of adoption. (Thinking about all those war orphans really gets to her). Much as Shep loves Liara, she does not want an asari daughter. Mostly because she realizes that it's not that time in Liara's life. She fully expects Liara to pack up and leave when Shep brings up kids.  (I think she's being a bit overdramatic, but what can you do?)

Couldn't agree more. I'm actually surprised there's so little mention of a mixed family, I think the idea makes a lot of sense (well, for femSheps at least =]) and there's potential for all sorts of unique situations and incidents :).

Now I'm starting to wish there was a fanfic out there that dealt with this (wink wink, nudge nudge :P)

The part in bold made me laugh! Image IPB

Let's hope that crying babies doesn't send Liara out the door ... it would me! Image IPB

EDIT: frudi ... does that mean that you are going to write it? Oh, and add a dog and a cat and a whatever asari have as pets. I'm starting to fear this out of control household.

@frudi: That's not just a fic... that's a sitcom, right there. I can totally picture something like that being a big hit in the post-Reaper-world entertainment industry. Especially if the producers got the rights to pattern the "parents" after Shep and Liara.

@PMC: Well, to be fair, that's how a great many of the younger twenty-somethings would react to their SO suddenly wanting to add kids to the mix. Seriously, just the idea of being responsible for a plant is too much when you're young! Although, I guess Liara did have fish in her Illium apartment....

PMC... me, write? Haha, good joke =]. Not that I haven't occasionally entertained the idea of writing down some of my headcanon, but honestly, my mastery of language is pretty pathetic (especially English) and I haven't written anything since my high school years. Nah, I think it's better if I spare others from any of my potential efforts .

There are plenty of authors in this thread though, I was trying to nudge the idea in their general direction ;)

edit:
Batlass... now you've put the image of Shep, Liara and kids watching a sit-com based on their family life into my head. Poor Liara, she struggled just to figure out human humour, now she has to deal with our ideas of humorous entertainment :)

frudi - C'mon! Give it a try! Just try a little one-shot to start ... what could it hurt? You could have the little family on vacation or one of the kid's first day of school.

@frudi: This might be getting a bit too meta... but I'd love to watch their reactions to the "based on Cmdr Shepard/Dr. T'Soni family" sitcom. The kids would probably be the best. They'd either love it or be incredibly embarrassed.

@PMC: True that. Sometimes I think there should be a test. (A test that's harder than the one for your learner's permit. And harder than the citizenship test.) One of the batsisters has firmly declared on multiple occasions that children are like library books: fun to borrow, but it's too much trouble to spend the money for your own copy.

There is actually. I can't remember the title though.

There's one where Shep's an Admiral, with human and Asari daughters.

Then, there's another where miraculously, Shep becomes pregnant by Liara. This one is kinda weird, to me, I mean, the conception is Asari-like. Oh yeah, they already have a couple of Asari daughters.

I was clicking around and accidentally came across these two.

But whatever floats someone else's boat ... Image IPB

Shepard1038 - To be honest, I really don't mind the Mass Effect movie if it brings new customers to the franchise. I'll just see it as someone else's playthrough, if you will ... not canon.

  Who what now?

Well, I have to give the author credit for creativity at least.  I never would have come up with that.  And if it's well-written and people enjoy it, so much the better.  It just probably won't be incorporated into my headcanon any time soon.

Edit: Used the wrong "it's."  Mea culpa.

Yeah, same reaction here. Image IPB  I ceased reading after that, it was just that one chapter. I really don't think Asari bonding, whatever, etc can change human physiology.

Just out of curiosity, how would you have reacted if Bioware revealed Liara to be sterile?

It doesn't matter to me whether or not Shepard has children, but I'm curious if it would have angered some of you. A lot of Miranda's fans raged at the reveal in LotSB that Miranda couldn't have children.

Ditto, but there're  are worse things I've read/scene, like that absurd oneshot about liara boobs going so large and killing everyone.

Meh, Game to movies are never done well..(Except, maybe, Advent children). TBH I can see it being another generic action movie. Although IMBD lists both Male and Female Shepard...which makes me go : /

And I <3 the freindship scene.

Han Shot First - Would not have mattered to me and in a way there is a flaw with Liara regarding children. If Shepard wants a son or a child that is a 50/50 mix then Liara is also not a choice.

Outside of Ashley/Kaidan (Jack a maybe), all the LI's have shortcomings in regards to procreation with Shepard.

EDIT:

With people other than Liara or other Asari, is Shepard even capable of having children? I would think he or she might be sterile post-Lazarus.

Nothing. Image IPB

I like Liara, but she's a fictitious char. How to put it? I'm not that emotionally involved with chars I like that I'd go all blood rage over negative stuff about them.

This is a potential, but since that is left open to the player femShep can have kids in my headcanon.

My male Shepard already had a kid but I could see him wanting more with Ash. Image IPB

Though I agree with what other have said about the idea of Liara impregnating Shepard... huh? Well, maybe the author came up with a good explanation and it actually makes more sense in the story :). I've tossed around some weird ideas in my head as well, so I can't be too judgemental about this one without reading it first.

That's a surprisingly fitting metaphor that I can't help but personally agree with

Although that fic was nothing compared to that one about Wrex, Shepard, a shower, and Javik I once had the misfortune of reading. The title and description were misleading. :pinched:

EDIT: And now I must seem strange talking about this near the top of the page, so may I draw your attention to this:
