The fact that Liara will potentially outlive both if Shepard has a baby is sad but Liara's child would outlive Shepard by centuries. There is no win-win but as long as love is shared in those precious moments, isn't that what counts?

I find a parent outliving a child (I know it is not Liara's child per say, but I assume EW and Liara will stick together) a far more depressing prospect than the child outliving the parent.

True.

That would be one of the many drawbacks of a creature that lives a thousand years joining with a creature that averages a century. Outliving not only her lover but those that this human would bring into her life ... from family, friends and children.

Which is why I would never consider any human children in Liara and Shepard's relationship.

*snip picture*

If Shepard wanted human children and put it to the side based on that ... that would be Shepard's sacrifice for Liara. Nothing wrong with that as long as it never turned into resentment on Shep's part. And I would wonder if Liara would sense Shepard's hidden desire? How would she feel about it? Shepard giving up one more thing for someone else ... yet again. That could make a sad story.

Give me Mordin and i would have a cure in a few years. But seriously researchers are years away in finding a cure. Medical research is not very advanced, but it is only a matter of time, before there is a cure. And you do know that Mass Effect is set 200 years in the future, right?

Yes, I do. But look at where people believed we would be in the year 2000 ... cars that fly, homes on Mars, cancer cured, etc. The future is magic and full of possibilities but how often does it live up to what people think it will be?

ADD: Mass Effect is make-believe so I will gladly just go with what Casey and his teams puts in that world.

I find that hard to believe. Unless those watched Star Wars and Star Trek in the 80's.  The future is full of possibility. Just because something is out of reach right now. Doesn't mean that in the future it would be. From 1900 to 2000 we progress as much as in the last hundred years combined. Progress takes time. It is sometimes dangerous when there is a lot of technological progress. I thought Mass Effect was a hard sci fi.

Think I should post a quick correction to my last post after further investigation.

Naked asari / Liara and 'naked standard human female' / Ash are of the same overall height and have technically the same body model but the proportions are actually different. A picture says more than ...
Image IPB
That long neck ... ^_^
Compared from chin to top of the head Liara 'wins' by roughly 1cm btw, thanks to her crests.
So much for what the game tells us about the height difference. Now back to the actually important topics.  ;)

shepard1038 - Or Flash Gordon of the 30's / Star Trek of the 60's.

The future is full of possibilities. What that will bring both in the positive and negative is a real unknown for us. Not only in technology but what is socially acceptable. Who knows how people 200 years from now will judge us and how we live, think, act.

Mass Effect, on the other hand, is a make believe world that is more 2000 in desires than 2183 in desires. It would be not only amazing but also odd to wake up in 2183. How lost and surreal would that be ... and how would society be?

Define ‘unique’. It’s different in proportions to all humans, at least.

Ok i see what your saying. Your saying that in 2183 the world could be different. As in technology that we don't know and people could have different morals and society as a whole could be different. And that Mass Effect is a world that is similar to today than is era, right? If that is the case i think that Mass Effect was intended to have similarities to today. Not be a completely different world unrecognizable from today.

As in judging by the romance scene, I always thought Liara used a completely different model than the human characters, not just the same one with some different proportions.

I don't know, honestly. Maybe it's just that all the human models wear underwear that made Liara's seem unique.

I would say it would be a sacrifice on Liara's part since its her who in the end has to endure the child's absence.

Somewhat topically, I think I’ll retire for the night with this excerpt from Chapter 21:

:

Noticing Liara looking at her curiously, Hannah decided to ask the question she'd been wondering about. "I'm sorry if this is tactless, Liara, but…I assume you two had the conversation about the…age thing?"

The asari looked over her shoulder at the reposed shape on the bed and smiled, with only the faintest hint of ruefulness that Hannah could pick up. "We have. I…learned early that many humans have a somewhat particular view on the issue; almost as if the human lost something because his or her partner lived longer, in comparison to if they had chosen a human instead. As if it reduced their lives somehow.

"But time is the same for us as it is for you, so far as we can tell. A day feels like a day, a year a year, a century a century. A human life may seem fleeting in comparison of numbers, but those years are no less for us than they are for you. And do you not prefer that your— that if you should die, that Henry lived a long and happy life after? Or that your daughter would live another 500 years, not 50? Everyone does, I think. I am uncertain why humans do not see our situation that way.

"The war reminds us, too… As much as we might think that it is I who is destined to feel sorrow, to rebuild after she is gone…I might die tomorrow, or next week, or in ten years. I…we do not fear it."

Hannah, staring down at the glass she was holding in her lap, had to admit that she had instinctively felt that way, too, without really thinking about it much. Felt that it was somehow unfair to Eevy.

:

Nitey-nite!

Lizardviking - Well thank the stars in my Shepard universe Liara was not robbed of sitting next to Shepard at a school play as little Shepard performed. As Shepard teared up, Liara squeezed her hand and smiled at lil' Shep. Liara had been lil' Shep's reading partner and smiled as the kid remembered all the lines.

Ravi - That just means more Ash for me!

I never said that. :) There are a lot more characters that I like too. I don't hate Ash but I don't like her that much.

I know you are, hence why I also included Ash, not just Liara, as an important topic (even if I myself am not really much of a fan of hers). And why I suggested to Ravii not to dismiss Ash when her fans are about ;)

Sorry to say, Ash and Kaidan annoyed me in ME3 :( And Kaidan's rise to major just made me laugh.

Off topic.

Anyone else got metal pins/plates in them. Just bashed mine against the door frame. Hurt like f***.

I hate to say it, but as far as I can tell not even Liara's face model is truly unique. With the exception of Samara all asari I looked at so far use exactly the same 'base' head.

Disagree on what? Having children are a very personal choice and dependent on the relationship it can be good or bad.

Your Shepard may not feel he/she could put a human child into Liara's life ... that is fine.

My Shepard and Liara would never regret having a human child in theirs ... that is fine.

I didn't realize this was an either / or. Image IPB

It always is, PMC!

No but seriusly, I can't imagine a Shepard in a relationship with Liara considering a human child for reasons already stated.
