Lizardviking: you previously wrote

Back on Illium, she was truly operating alone and hence in the shadows.

Which I could see making sense if you choose to interpret 'working in shadows' to mean working alone. However, it turns out she never referred to working in shadows (alone by your interpretation), but to working in secret. Therefore it doesn't matter how much time she spent alone as the Shadow Broker, or alone on Illium before that, as that's simply not what she's talking about.

And for working in secret - that's something she does as the Shadow Broker, in fact it's one of the crucial aspects of the job. On the other hand, back on Illium she was not being secretive about her work at all, she was actually well known as one of the most prominent and respected information brokers. To me it doesn't make any sense that she would refer to those years on Illium as 'working in secret'.

Yes, people knew she was an information broker, but I highly doubt she advertised her activities. Such as employing assasins (observer quest) or making buisness arrangement with wanted thieves such as Kasumi (perhaps even hiring them to do jobs?). So you can argue that she was working in secret back then as well.

As for what she actually meant in that dialogue, here's my take on it...
She's drawing parallels between her position as SB and TIM - both work in secret; both through their respective organisations wield an awesome amount of power, enough to shape events on a galactic scale; both are in a position where they can (ab)use that power for highly questionable purposes and motives; both might end up doing that despite their best intentions, even if they believe they are trying to do good. Liara wonders if she could ever fall as far as TIM did and while Shepard tries to convince her that she is nothing like him, she is not quite so sure. She still wonders what if... what if the stakes had been high enough, what if she could have saved Thessia - would she have gone as far as TIM for that?

And this is all really good, but why is it that Liara has this doubt when Shepard tries to convince her? Because she already knows she were willing to do questionable things to reach her goals on Illium, and as you said, if the stakes were high enough, she wonders if she would go as far as TIM did, especially when she has so much power as she has now.

Han Shot First - She has reached the point in the negotiations to threaten him with flaying.

If he did not pay would she follow through? Or would she double back and try something new?

I see her ready to follow through because she understands that you do not give empty threats. That and if I thought she was bluffing, her character would look foolish and weak to me. I don't want to think of Liara that way ... so yeah, she would have visited him and delivered on her promise if he didn't pay.

Or give him a small taste.  But i dont think she wouldve had to.  AS has been said, she reads people rather well, she's manipulative when she wants to be, and she's intellgient - knows what pressure points to push based on the character she's dealing with (check out these eyes shep, what not working? damn those usually work, ok lets kill all 5 then - ha knew she couldn't stay idle with that one).  Or maybe she's just doing something like Captain Shakespeare did in that damned movie Stardust rofl.  She's just lucky she hasn't had to act on any of her threats yet - or maybe she has, I could see her doing a couple darker things (not enough to numb her to the wrongness of it though).  2 years is a long time in that type of... buisness, especially with a badly bruised soul, and all ready on the steep slope of regret after giving cerberus shepard's body - what's another few body bags...although threatening the family of a client sounds a little low...for her.
Still that line when she's talking to Aethyta that she wasn't actually going to do it kinda bugs me if I'm to believe she's become THAT ruthless, unless shes lying to protect herself or something.  And then im thrown for another whirl when she wonders/suggests/hints that she could become the next TIM if the motivation was just right.  Or that "give me 10 minutes and i could start a war" line... *double takes the screen* ... ionno.  Definately not entirely the ''innocent'' prothean expert we met back in ME1 thats for sure.

Killer butterflies.  Feasting on inner feels, breeding within the angst.  Damn parasites...
Fortunately I have a cure, it involves bottles of brownish-red liquids in packs of 6 or 12, served alongside some german origin comfort food.

Had a post meltdown, was going critical for a moment, fixed it though.  I think.  This is what happens when you let "omnia" (Name for the banshee suggested by someone a few pages back, i think?) use the keyboard...
All german food is comfort food lol one particular favorite being just plain ole' spaetzle.

Oh, you mean "Spaetzle mit Soße". In my region it's very popular. :D Loved it as a little kid, I ordered this every single time I was at the restaurant. :D

Yeah I pretty much agree with Doozer here, if you look at Aria as an example she wouldn't kill someone just because she could, she'd rather exhaust any value that person could serve towards her interests, she'd manipulate them and threaten with violence, killing is a last resort, it's messy and a pain in the ass to clean up afterwards, better to have fearful alive clients then bumping them off. Liara is an information broker she has plenty of tools at her disposal to extract whatever she needs out of her clients without resorting to murder. I don't know I'd see it as a failure on her part if she resorted to murder, she could have used said person more to her gain alive.

We need more blue:wub:

Oh come on! As if this was the first time a love-crazed banshee girl 'redecorated' your lab...

And you might remember a certain tastefully furnished office that mysteriously burned down shortly after you left it? Finding that asari / human thingy can't possibly be more difficult than sorting through the charred remains of my beloved 15m² desk full of important PR documents! What's so special about her anyway?

I told you it was an accident!! How did I know that the three different colored buttons all lead to the same conclusion (read explosion)?? I believe our jesters Mac and Casey were also punished for it (or so I was told).

Anyway, she´s important because she is the only specimen who is actually capable of melding like a true asari. All the others just looked like blue women with hair tentacles:?.

And as for the banshee: I had never tried ryncol before, and Moree decided not to tell me that she wasn´t the asari dancer that was performing that day.
Damn you Moree<_<

*shrugs* Think of it as payback Ananas lost his desk and i lost my Hearth bar and Asari Serving girls,  I had vintages of Serrice Ice Brandy in there that would make even Karin Chakwas swoon....  then we had to relocate to the VIP lounge what a headache that was:P

Would it make sense for Liara to have some sort of mechanic to cover the windows in her office? In case she wanted some privacy, like when talking to someone important?

I was thinking more like her pressing a button and then plates would fold up to cover the windows.

Mechanism, yes, it would. Although I think it’d be more like that two-state glass that you can flick to milky, or perhaps the pane is actually a transparent projector, so that it can be flicked to show some pre-recorded footage or whatever.

I’m so tired that for a while I was wondering if you actually asked about a little mechanic hiding somewhere ^_^

Nope, she uses curtains. Its more cheap and they had to do some budget cuts for her to afford being and information broker.

I had to re-read it a couple times before my mind clicked.  I was thinking this:
*walks into liara's office*
*instantly see's three individuals in coveralls spreadeagling across each window pane, their coveralls labelled with some sort of Illium Maintenance Buisness*
Liara... About these security/privacy measures...

Blaagh cold medication does strange things to a mind.

I don't know if at that time curtains still exist in architecture. In your canon they do as you say but in mine not or at least the curtains are very rare at that time. ^^

The projector sounds neat but I imagine it being annoying the long run, as she would have to intake a certain position/posture when she wants to activate it. The idea of having glass that can change state sounds good though.

LOL! That was pretty bad on my part, sorry!

I was joking. Some people don't have a sense of humor. She probably has a windows that closes and open and is a projector.
