As for diamonds, they actually aren't all that rare on Earth anymore. The prices are kept artifically high by the memory of their historical rarity, a monopoly on the diamond trade, and because the 'value' of diamonds as romantic gifts is now so ingrained in human culture.
But for the primitive Asari diamonds would likely have been similarly rare as they were for our ancestors. Diamonds on Thessia would have formed in much the same way they do on Earth, deep in the mantle under extremes of temperature and pressure. The processes needed to create them and their relative inaccessibility would have made them rare.

*sigh* wish I knew how to make pictures like this.. who wants to teach me?
That one is cool but it's not finished! I want to see it reposted when it actually gets finished.
As for the other one, the best part of the image is, I think, the necklace Liara is wearing and the view of space in the background. The tank top looks a little awkward on her.

I am not even convinced that she would actually have to follow through on her physical threats, in that concrete case or in general. It's not like murder is the only way to send a message to wilfully uncooperative clients. By the time she's finished with someone, all their dirty laundry aired, all their hidden skeletons revealed... their life is effectively ruined. That's warning enough I think, probably even more effective than simple murder. It's even an advertisement in a sense, since it emphasizes that she's really damn good at her trade.Han Shot First wrote...
I think eventually she would have had to follow up on those threats if he didn't pay, otherwise she'd fail as an information broker. She'd have to send a message to other clients that they couldn't skip out on their debts with impunity.PMC65 wrote...
Han Shot First - She has reached the point in the negotiations to threaten him with flaying.
If he did not pay would she follow through? Or would she double back and try something new?
But between the threats and outright murder, I think she still had some other options to collect that debt. Blackmail is one. Sending muscle to smack him around or physically intimidate him is another. There would be an escalation of force and killing would be the final stage, when she had given up hope of the debt ever being collected.
And the more I think about that threat of hers as we first enter her office, the more I just can't take it seriously.
For one, it seems like such an absurd kind of threat to make; if you want to make a real threat's meant to be taken seriously, are you really going to go with "I'll flay you alive... with my mind"? It seems way more like simple posturing to me, probably because the client is some clueless schmuck that couldn't tell biotics from magic.
And second, remember that despite lax regulations Illium is far from lawless, in fact it's renowned for its safety and security and murder is one of the few things that are still illegal and prosecuted. And Liara knows her office is almost certainly bugged and anything she says probably being recorded. Would she really make sincere threats that she meant to act on when she knows they would be recorded?

I kinda feel like they do focus on Liara slightly more than the other squadmates.. maybe because she got her own comic.
But in general I think Bioware needs to start releasing more that isn't multiplayer (even though that seems to be working for them). Don't know.. feel like they haven't released something really worth getting or just looking at in awhile that makes me say *Smeagol voice* "I WANTS IT.."
And they seem to like releasing things one at a time also.. which makes it annoying when you're not interested in it and it takes so long for them to release another thing.. am I making sense? ._.
Yeah, you're making sense.

There's also the fact that Liara is playing the Shadow Broker's game in order to lure him out, and the man Liara was talking about flaying the mind of was probably an agent that had information on him. So, she's playing by the rules the Shadow Broker respects, and uses threats like that. Whether she'll actually follow through is another matter, which unless absolutely necessary, I don't see her doing either. Also, she's using her mother's line about facing asari commandos, which sounded like a bluff to me personally in order to get him to talk, which can be used to further prove that.frudi wrote...

The Shadow Broker is also an information broker…an amazingly good one. The thing of it is, James Bond aside, international espionage was/is a very bloodless affair on the whole. Personal threats are one thing, but I think even the yahg’s use of force was mostly limited to defensive measures. It’s just not necessary otherwise, or worse: actively meddling in things—like “starting a war in 10 minutes”—is a huge risk to take because you’re bound to ****** somebody off, and when you’re just raking in money by observing…
But, then again, my take on the SB is quite different from the others I’ve observed. I think that even in the games, it’s portrayed as way too easy a job.

I can see Liara wear jewelry every now and then. It would suit her with a nice elegant dress and shows me the fancy side of her.

and hmm.. all this talk about merchandise and Shadow Broker got me thinking.. who would buy a comic about the original Shadow Broker and his pet/slave Yahg killing him and becoming the new one? I think it would make an amazing story if done right and wouldn't mess around too much with already canon stories
Edit:
Btw if some of you didn't see.. they may be releasing something tomorrow.. well, today. So get excited and pray to the goddess that we get something new that looks good EA Summer Showcase Thursday 1pm PDT

It would be nice to see how the old Shadow Broker risen and expanded his network and agents but I doubt it they will ever make that comic.
Yeah, I read the thread yesterday and I'm counting the hours until it starts. I hope it is worth it and they present something more than one picture last time at comic con.

There are files in LotSB that touch on the Yahg's rise to Shadow Broker. He basically pulled a Liara. He killed the last Shadow Broker and stepped into his predecessor's operation seemlessly, with most of the organization none the wiser.
Kind of funny to think that most of Liara's Shadow Broker network still thinks it is working for the Shadow Broker that preceeded the Yahg, and have no idea that there has not only been a coup, but two of them!

Neither do I actually. I think she got her point across and was paid in full shortly afterwards.
I don't even think she had to resort to blackmail.

Did she have any art on the wall in her Illium apartment? I can't recall now.

Yeah I saw that too. Honestly I hope there is more SP DLC news for ME, but I'd much rather see something for Dragon Age. Because you know, DragonAge fans losing out on the exalted March, had nothing to do with the crazy re-takers..

It's hard to believe that no one saw the original Shadow Broker before Yahg Broker took over.. he probably called them to his office, locked the doors and ated them
but yeah I'm hoping SP DLC trailer with very soon release date. I can't ssee what else they could possibly announce at an EA event.. it better not be more MP. I've never even touched the case of a Dragon Age game but the post said for ME fans to watch so unless there's another post for DA fans to watch..

It doesn’t really matter if they see him (or her) before the yahg takes over. Just that they don’t see the yahg after.
