I actually went on youtube a few days ago and  watched FF XIII trailers, only to hear Ali's awesome, calming voice  She uses the same voice for both Light and Liara.

Ali tweeted yesterday the link to the new FFXIII-2 tralier.  Ali does the VO on it and it looks good.  I don't think she uses Liara's voice, it sounds very simuliar.  There was a part at the beginning of the game where Lightning punched out Snow.  Every time I saw her do that, I was thinking, Liara has channeled her inner Shepard.

Sareh is Lightning's little sister.  I'm on chapter 8 in FF XIII right now.  I might buy FF XIII-2 this time next year or later.  I know this time next year, I will still be playing ME3.

Just finished FF XIII few months ago - it was my first FF game and I've really enjoyed it (but at the beginning I thought it's really lame game - totally changed my opinion when I was playing some hours).

Btw. you have nice sig pic "Liara Shep Marriage for ME3" - hell yeah - that would be cool! But I'm afraid they will do something terrible at the end and we will have to chose btw. who will live or not. I HOPE for happy end and some blue children!

I saw that interview and is awesome, we're lucky to have a VA for Liara that is so open and friendly with her fans. I also love Liara's voice, if comes out a movie with her having another voice it will not be the same

Even Ali Hillis mentioned that too.  Even she knows it wouldn't be the same.

It is just me or does Lightning look a little like Ali Hillis?  I doubt they modeled it after her, but I still think it looks like Ali.  Maybe just wishful thinking.

Doubt it, since FF-XIII was already done in Japan before they picked Ali Hillis to voice Lightning for the US version.

It's not unheard of that a character gets modeled after his/her VA. Bastila from Kotor who was voiced by Jennifer Hale was given a few of Hale's features as well, to make them look more alike. Anyway, the only similarities between Ali Hillis and Lightning that I can see are the stance of their eyes and eyebrows. IF they were going to make them look alike on purpose, they would probably have done a better job.

@TheMarshal-I know it came out in Japan before it went anyplace else. Same is true with FF XIII-2. I think it is going to be released in Japan in Oct, where we get it in Jan.

@Robhuzz-That could be what I noticed. Eyes and her eyebrows. It looks like a younger Ali, to me anyway.

My observation has been that, in several cases, video game characters tend to loosely resemble their voice actors/actresses.  I have an opinion on why.  I think that certain voice patterns tend to be associated with other genetic traits.  Subconsciously, I think people know this.  I suspect in many cases where the voice actor looks wildly different from the character, people may not take the character seriously.  The studios may not choose VAs based on the character's appearance on purpose, but in a lot of cases it seems to work out that way.

This is not true in every case, obviously, but it does seem to be a trend.

Further examples:

Morrigan / Claudia Black




Claudia Black doesn't do "sneer" as well as the character she voiced, but that's just animation:D

Trischka Novak (Bulletstorm) / Jennifer Hale





Zaeed Massani / Robin Sachs





There are then the obvious cases where the character's features were derived from the voice actor on purpose like TIM / Martin Sheen and Miranda Lawson / Yvonne Strahovski.

It doesn't hold true in every case.  For example, Jennifer Hale doesn't really resemble the default femshep all that much (maybe somewhat).  Still, I've noted there is a trend where characters tend to loosely resemble the VA.

With the Reapers arriving, I think the plausibility exists that the council may become wiped out. Thus leaving it open for humans, and an overturn on their current law that prohibits genetic engineering (perhaps a rewrite extending its possibilities, but not so much to allow different species to be created).

Perhaps with their technology, human lifespan could be prolonged.

It's already happening. The codex on humanity, earth and a few others state that human lifespan has increased to about 140 - 150 due to advances in medical technology. Only now are humans able to benefit from the medical advances of the asari, turians, salarians etc. Life expectancy is expected to become a lot longer in the very near future. Can't remember which codex said it, but it was there at least.

Nevertheless, the resemblance is there.  They probably drew Morrigan's appearance from their model first.  Then they determined loosely what voice they wanted.  The sort of voice that would work for a dark haired, medium complexioned woman is probably most likely found in a dark haired, medium complexioned VA.  They may not have consciously thought of it that way, but it works out that way quite a lot.
