The game actually bears that point out, because the mission does succeed if Shepard continues on to the AA Tower, with the Salarians and Ashley evacuated. The difference between a smart tactical move and a bad one is success.
The above is a fallacy. The future is unknown at the time, and cannot be used as justification. (Incidentally, I think a lot of people have simply incorporated this knowledge deeply enough that it’s hard to make a choice without it having an effect.)
I agree.
I was just pointing that no matter what choice Shepard makes in that situation, ultmately it turns out to be tactically sound because it succeeds.
Speaking of not having foreknowledge of how Virmire will play out...
A secondary reason I had Shepard keep pushing forward to the Salarians was that I figured that a few STG witnesses would spur the galaxy into action."Finally, someone to back up what Shepard has been saying!" I figured they could testify about the whole Reaper business, and if that failed to move the Council evidence of a genophage cure surely would.
Of course the STG survivors end up not mattering. The Council still ignores Shep.
