See, on the one hand, I agree with you, because it is really sad when feelings aren't returned, but on the other hand, unrequited love makes for some really interesting storytelling. I think. People react so differently to having to sublimate their true feelings, and their behavior in those situations is always fascinating. I'm one of those people who prefers long, drawn-out 'will-they-or-won't-they' as opposed to having the OTP get together right away because people who are happily in love are boring. As Tolstoy said, "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." The same is true of acknowledged couples versus unacknowledged ones. Just my opinion though.
I'm with you on this one ... Cyrano de Bergerac is still one of my favorite love stories and he never gets the girl.
The picture with Shep thinking monogamy sucks is funny but also one-sided. How would Shepard feel if that was Liara in the middle with Shepard, Kaidan, Garrus, Sam, etc. around her?
I had a friend who told her girlfriend that she wanted an open relationship because she also liked another girl ... her girlfriend agreed after a week of battles ... happy ending? Might have been if my friend had been just as open to her girlfriend finding an outside toy as well. But the day my friend's girlfriend started dating someone else ... that was wrong! She didn't want her primary girl seeing anyone else. "How can she want anyone else but me?" my friend had asked. Of course I just laughed because her girlfriend was a better catch than she was ... Sweet, smart and had a wonderful laugh. My not-to-bright-friend told her that she had changed her mind ... but it was too late. That genie was out of the bottle.
