Edit: To make this slighty on-topic, my first renegade Shepard was modeled on Starbuck.  Named Kara and everything.  She was a bamf, and I love her.

Sure the more the merrier, all I got is the 1st season though, you two gotta help a sister out, you'll have to bring over the other seasons too. I'm a bum I know, why am I always broke... oh right the drinking yes:whistle:

I don't think Liara is in love with Shepard if she isn't romanced.

In fact, she isn't in love with Shepard even on some romanced playthroughs. Say for example the player romanced other characters in Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2, and doesn't romance Liara until the third game. In that playthrough Liara will not tell Shepard that she loves him/her. Of course she cares a lot about Shepard, but the relationship hasn't progressed to the stage where she's in love yet.

Liara is always devoted to Shepard regardless of her relationship status, but the motivations are different if she isn't romanced. If unromanced she's devoted to Shepard as one of her closest friends and a comrade-in-arms, and as a leader she greatly admires. Few bonds are tighter than those forged between men who've struggled and fought and bled together. Why shouldn't that be true for Asari as well?

If unromanced I don't think Liara and Shepard are an example of unrequited love.

That being said, the image does have 'head canon' stamped on it.

Assuming for a moment that Liara does love Shepard, that last 'night' together on the Normandy is potentially the last time she'll have an opportunity to tell Shepard how she feels. That she doesn't tell Shepard she loves him/her if romanced late in the series, indicates she doesn't IMO.

Their situation differs from that of most couples in that they are both facing likely deaths, and time is a luxury they don't have. If they loved each other, it is going to be said on the last night.

That's what I was thinking when I was writing it.

But then I thought that she wants/needs Shep to say it first.
