]It was overall fun to play through, and I really enjoyed the first third, with investigating in the lab and figuring out what was going on at the mining facility. Being forced to have EDI and Vega there, of all people, was really weird though.
The 2nd part, with rescuing Ann, was incredibly boring and dull. Don't know if it was just me, but there was barely even any music here. And nothing really happened, just pure combat. And it was a very boring looking place.
I'm also really getting tired of them shoving new characters at us and expecting us to really care about and get attached to them, instead of fleshing out the characters we are already invested in further. I just didn't care about Ann.
The final part was really interesting - and I loved the aesthetics on the water planet. The surface looked really cool, and the rain and water effects were really nice looking too.
And getting a few nods towards the Liara romance is always nice.
But I'll move on to the big issue here - the Leviathan race. It is really really damn cool, I think, to get to actually meet the race that created the Reapers, and see all the similarities between them and the Reapers themselves - both in looks and in powers and attitudes and all.
And their powers? That meeting. Extremely significant and powerful. Like...this is a monumental occurrence, a huge event. Which brings me to my huge, major complaint with the DLC - the aftermath.
There's too much buildup here, the Leviathans - and what they can do, is too much. The ending, as it is, has no excuse to happen as it does anymore, after this. That everything still happens the same, Starchild and all, tells me this DLC is yet another case of plot just being really, really half assed. That it's something else they have introduced without at all thinking of the implications and just what it should really mean, just like how they were originally so surprised the original ending had everyone thinking they just destroyed the galaxy, because they hadn't thought things through.
What do I mean? Well, the Leviathans and their artifacts! This is the most powerful, and direct, weapon against the Reapers we've ever seen, aside from the Crucible itself except that plays by Starchilds rules. The enemy. Just by having an artifact, any reaper force - and even any Reaper, that approaches a close proximity, can be almost instantly defeated.
Think about that for a second! All Shepard has to do is keep an artifact near him, and suddenly he's nigh untouchable by the Reapers, at least at close range.
And what does that mean? It means, **** you Harbinger in London, the beam run scene never should happen because with an artifact the Leviathans can just destroy him if he lands like he does. This means, no injured Shepard and crew. It means everyone - including random Alliance soldiers, can make it into the beam to the Citadel.
This means TIM is a little **** that gets overpowered by an uninjured Shepard/Anderson, Shepard's crew, and a bunch of random Alliance soldiers too. This means Starchild is suddenly not so powerful anymore either, because the Leviathans can fight against him, too.
That none of this happens, the Leviathans and their power are just hand waved away, is just proving to me that they really don't have a plan for ME anymore, they aren't thinking about anything, and are just tossing out interesting looking plots and doing nothing with them.
I'm out of hope, here.
Not to mention this DLC delivered very, very little in the way of actually fleshing out the actual characters we care about...it just introduced entirely new ones for absolutely no reason because all of the impact they should have is just thrown away after the DLC ends.
