Happy Birthday Casino Royale!

Thoughts on melding... I tend to agree with Frudi that there must be different levels/intensities of the meld. Not quite sure what they are, but I think there are a bunch of different directions you could take something like that.

Things that made me cry... Mass Effect 3, when my Shepard picked the EC 'reject' ending. I cried from the sheer horror of what she had done. And (don't judge me) I sobbed at the end of Madame Butterfly, when they ripped her son away from her and she commits suicide out of grief. Also: I cried during Battleship, the movie, during the montage where the old vets are helping the young sailors get the old ship ready to fight the aliens. But those were tears of laughter, so IDK if they count.

Dont you hate it when your trying to find a song, and you can hear it in your head, but for the life of you cant remember what the heck its called? Uurrrgg!

There was this new electronic song that had the lyrics "sound the alarm", but all im getting is old songs. Also there was this one that had "Shooting Star " in it with a kind of dicso beat, but there are a bunch of old songs on there crowding them out.

They would go so much with techo Turian..;P

@Casino

Oh i just rented it:)

@CrimsonN7

I see that gif got your attention. And you have quoted me , mission complete:P Yes that is a funny movie.

Huh that's different, how come you wanted to go that route? I know some triggered it by accident by repeatedly shooting him not knowing that the action would lead to derp you lose!:blink: I understand the curiosity although I youtubed the other endings myself, Priority Earth is a long assed mission.:whistle:

@Mavqt yep it's The Waterboy, hilarious film.:D

@Mav: Are you also an opera-lover? I think Puccini was the first person ever to make a career out of kicking people in the feels!

@Crimson: That particular Shepard was a colonist/sole survivor who only ever relied on herself to get things done and hated being told what to do. Rejecting the choices felt like the right choice for her, but as soon as I saw that Liara holo telling the cycle's story, I had a hand clapped over my mouth in pure horror/realization.

Not a lover per se, but I have enjoyed a couple. I saw a few for drama in high school. So many feels in live performances, like plays, opera, etc.

Yeah I felt more sad for Liara than Shep I kinda knew even before playing ME3 like many others that Shep would more than likely die at the end.<_<

It would've been nice to see a blue-baby at the end, though. I mean, I feel like such a troll in the LOTsB cabin scene now.

@Yuqi: And there we see that fluffy center I've talked about for so long!!

@Mav: That's very true. I'm a huge fan of ballet, and I have to say that it gives me more feels than almost anything in the world. The first time I saw Giselle I literally kept making these little gasping noises at all the drama and pain that was being conveyed. The woman sitting in front of me was most irritated.

@Crimson: Yeah, that voice is scary as all-frak!  The worst thing about the ending was that the first time I saw it, when I saw the quiet, grassy place, and heard Liara's voice, I thought we were going to get a scene set far in the future where elderly!Liara was telling a new generation Shepard's story....

@Akernis, Ravii, and Frudi:  Thanks for offering your own thoughts on the boundaries and limitations of the meld.  I really enjoyed reading them.  :)

shepard1038 wrote...

Oh, very frequently.  I tend to always get very deeply invested in whatever fictional media I happen to be enjoying, which can lead to tears every now and then.  The last movie I remember crying over was Toy Story 3.  As for Mass Effect, I cried more than once.  The first time, I was fighting back tears in Liara's final goodbye scene just before Shepard ran to the beam.  I did not get to play the third game until after the EC was out, so I got to experience the gut-wrenching look on Liara's face without feeling the least bit prepared for whatever was going to happen next.  The second time I cried was at the end, both because of how sad it was for my Shep and Liara, and because I was pretty angry with the nonsensical reasons for these sad endings to even exist in the first place.

Thankfully, I got better after inserting some very stubborn headcanon and finding my way here to lurk.  Also, there was a thread about little blue children that helped immensely. :D

Also having the hero die at the end is one of the most cliche things there is.
I don't think cliches are necessarily bad if they're executed well. I can list a lot of games and movies that did it right. A game I'll use as an example is Red Dead Redemption; honestly, that was the only way to end the game while keeping John in-character. Plus, it was foreshadowed many times throughout the game's 19-22 some-odd hour length.

Really, I only find it annoying when the character's death is something along the lines of "OMFG I NEVER MENTIONED THIS BOMB DIDN'T HAVE A REMOTE DETONATOR I HAVE TO STAY BEHIND NOW K?"
This is an excellent point. Some stories just really couldn't end any other way. As with RDR, when the protagonist has completed their "mission" and has nothing left at the end, it's quite appropriate for them to die. As you said, Marston just about had to die. Shepard dying wasn't exactly out of left field, but it didn't feel like s/he had to in order to complete the story. And don't get me started about the arbitrary WE ARE ALL WITH YOU TILL THE END OH WAIT J/K UNTIL JUST BEFORE THE END SRY LOLZ nature of the climax.

That Shyamalan-ian twist BS at the last minute is what irks me most, no matter what medium we're talking about. :pinched:

Why? Liara has 900 years ahead of her. Shepard only lived roughly 30 years(don't remember Shepard exact age). Sure Liara is sad because Shepard died but later she'll get past Shepard's death and Shepard wanted to live too. One thing is expecting to die and another is wanting to die. Either way i choose destroy, so Liara won't endure putting Shepard's plate at the wall and also Shepard survives. Thought thats not the only reason i choosed destroy.

@ Batlass, Thanks. Posted Image Have you seen the opera Turandot? I really like the aria Nessun Dorma for some reson. I've never seen the opera, but the aria was in the movie The Sum of All Fears, the only good thing about that movie actually.

@screwball, I agree. The whole twist ending thing is really getting old. They've become so, dare I say it, mainstream.

EDIT: Ooops, topless.

Movie, yes. Rarely actually. The most recent : LOTR FOTR, when Gandalf fell at Zha'ha Dum. I didn't read the books so I had no idea then he would be resurrected. I cried when I saw that. Posted Image And Frodo's reaction and alot of others in the trilogy. When it ended, yes, I cried.

TV series, yes. Only one thus far. SF tv series B5, quite a number of eps nearly moved me to tears but the ending had me crying thereafter. I followed the story for 5 years and "grew" with all the charcs. When the story ended, I felt I was losing all my dearly beloved friends. To note: I accepted Sheridan's demise, mainly because it was stated how long he had to live. But before he passed beyond the Rim, he had a happy life with his LI, Delenn and they had a son. That's what eased his death even though it still left an ache.

Video games, not really. Closest is April Ryan in The Longest Journey. This is a well developed charc, you know her through her journals, her remarks on people and the things around her and events as they occurred. She was set aside as the protaganist (really stupid imo) in the sequel but that did not detract her importance. The ending was a cliffhanger and I can only hope she finds her way again, be the April Ryan fans knew her. The years had changed her and not for the better.

On ME. I like Shepard but BW's writers, imo, have failed because I am not that deeply involved in the char. I like her and the rest but not to the point I will cry when they kick the bucket. Angry, yes, because there is no satisfying conlusion, whatever there is, is an ungodly mess.

The success of a story is best helmed by one person. Babylon 5 was totally helmed by JMS and he put his foot down when the powers-that-be wanted B5 to be sexed up. He said no and he got his way and told the story he wanted.

TLJ was helmed by one guy, RT. And he told the story he wanted and it succeeded.  And LOTR, well, everyone knows who was at the wheel. Posted Image
