So it was March 26th this year. If asari measure their age in standard galactic years, which are equal to 1.043 Earth years, that would make her birthday progress by roughly 15.7 days each year, so next year it would fall on either April 10th or 11th. Mark your calendars people :wizard:

Just upgraded my laptop's ram. YEAHHH I'm gonna replay ME1, 2, 3 with HD mods this time. There are many side missions which I haven't done in ME1 and 2 like Conrad Verner. I treated him well in ME1 but he never shows up in ME2

I wish I had the patience to deal with the procedures required to load the high-res texture mods. I got the ME3 one working to try it out, but quickly gave up on the idea. The procedure is a PITA every time you want to launch the game, and with 16 GB of system ram and the game launching from a SSD drive you'd think it wouldn't take literally minutes for the game to load.
Still have to give ME1 and ME2 mods a try though, those should be more manageable since there's no dicking around with Origin. I really wish Bioware had made the ME games easier to mod; it's weird really, most of their other games have had much better support for mods.

It must be throughly annoying if you birhtday moves by just over two weeks every year, though at least you would get some variation.

Shepard is born on the 11th of April and assuming that the official timelime uses the Standard Galactic Time Shepards birthday is just over two weeks after Liara's Posted Image

However another problem with using the Standard Galactic Time is that wether Shepard or Liara actually are 32 and 109 respectably, in human CUT or SGT, and when they talk about humans living up to 150 and asari abour 1000 are also using CUT or SGT.
So problematic to work with alternate time measures and getting them to work together *sigh*.

Man, it was hell when I had to take those kinds of things into account when writting my story "Birthday".

Not a fan of the whole online/MMO thing - I want to play games my way. I don't want to waste my time with the endless grinding that will inevitably be found in any such game (MMO isn't going to work if people can ever actually finish it, so you need even more busywork).

When the incentives are this mismatched (I want a fun game, but the developers just want me to keep playing), the result is inevitable.

It’s not really that bad. Software solves it very neatly.

I’ve assumed that all the times are given in human terms, though I don’t recall if it’s stated anywhere. It’s usually specifically mentioned if some other reckoning is used…

Just to clarify, hypothetically, one could crap ones pants due to overexcitement, as in "I ran into Ali Hillis in the supermarket, and she agreed to read me bedtime stories every night for a year...and I crapped my pants"

One could also crap ones pants out of sheer disgust, for example "I heard that Diana Allers is the official love interest in the upcoming Mass Effect film...so I crapped my pants."

I'm sure there are other ways, but I'm really just speculating.

While wonderful I seriously doubt it would be effective to listen to Ali Hillis reading bedtimes stories, I would be utterly unable to sleep in case I mssed a single word.

Man, it was hell when I had to take those kinds of things into account when writting my story "Birthday".

According to the ME timeline Liara was born in 2077 CE, so she is 109 Earth years old. It doesn't make sense that she would figure her age in human years, so chuck it up to a writing oversight or simplification; or maybe it's those wondrous context-aware translators at work, converting ages seamlessly between different species' standards.

Likewise, Shepard's age of 32 is also in Earth years. I think humanity is probably in the process of transitioning to the galactic timekeeping standards. Certainly the colonies and the Alliance would have already officially adopted them out of necessity. But I imagine that for unofficial purposes, such as celebrating birthdays and holidays, the "old" Earth calendar is still ubiquitously used. And on Earth, with most people having little or no use for GST, CUT will be the de-facto standard for a long time to come.

Asari on the other hand have been colonising the stars for almost three millennia, they have dozens if not hundreds of colonies by now. They would have had to adopt and get used to some sort of interplanetary time standard millennia ago. So I suspect they would use GST for many more purposes than humans do, including keeping track of their age.
But they likely also still observe some events and festivities according to their local or even Thessian calendar. With so many different asari worlds out there, each one probably has a whole array of different customs and traditions, many of which would be tied to their own world's calendar.

The way I resolve the friendzoning in 2 and 3 is just to realize that Shepard is--as far as we know--the first relationship Liara's ever had, really.

No, no…it’s not. Or, you know, I’m glad if it works for you that way (no snark).

Really?  Huh--interesting.  Granted, I haven't read any of the comics or explored every single in-game line of dialogue, so who else was there?  Couldn't find any mention of anyone else in a quick scan of the wiki.

But in ME1 she admits she's never melded before, and doesn't like to be around other people because she always seems to say the wrong thing, so either way, I think you still got my point: that relationships are not something she has much experience with or are comfortable with, and that leads her to not be as confident and secure in what she has with Shepard as maybe some other people in her place might be, which in turn leads to the initial awkwardness that exists between her and Shepard when they first reunite again in the 2nd and 3rd games.

AlexMBrennan wrote...

There's friendzoning in ME2? Where?
First Liara's otherwise occupied (pre-LotSB) and later ... overwhelmed
by events (taking over as SB in LotSB) - she's clearly still interested
but suggests (trying to think rationally) that Shepard's death and stuff
might have changed things.

Not "friendzoning" to the extent that it exists in 3, where she explicitly states, "Maybe we should just be friends," but after that first moment where they meet and embrace in her office on Illium, Liara backs off (literally and figuratively) and takes a "just business" sort of attitude that I remember really confused and disappointed me the first time I played 2 (I was expecting a big, long, passionate kiss, and a "Goddess, Shepard, don't ever do something like that to me again!", followed by the two of them walking off hand-in-hand, fade to black, and the story picking up in her apartment the next morning... or the morning after that).  It's not until the end of LotSB that she finally starts to let the businesslike facade drop a bit... so that she can break up with Shepard.  <_<

So, yeah, the way I reconcile that, and then her behavior in 3, is to believe that after the time apart she just believes Shepard probably isn't really interested in her "that way" anymore (maybe found someone more exciting), or that she might be dragging Shepard down at times where other concerns are way more important, and both times it takes Shepard grabbing hold of her and saying, "No, you'll always be more important to me than anything."

Are you stalking me Lizard? :P

To answer your question, yea tabletop rpg's are pretty cool, however I don't play often. I used to play a lot of Warhammer when I was younger, but gave up on the hobby, because it burns holes through your wallet. RPG's are defintely easier to get back into, but I just don't have the time anymore.

Also, it still amazes me that Spoony is kinda a fanboy of ME, albeit a closed one. He wears swag from the series, and incorprates themes and plot points into his own material, such as the ending of his Ultima 9 review.

Not stalking you, just ran across a comment of your when watching the mentioned video by chance.

And yeah. Tabletop RPG's are awesome (I play pathfinder), I have been GM for a small group now for the last 6 months and the players have reached lv4 at this point. Finally getting the chance to play an adventure next time session. You are right about it taking alot of time and coordination to run a game these days, especially when everyone has things to attend to.

As for Spoony, I strongly disagree with him on the ending given that he apparently liked it.

I dunno…even trying to entertain this theory, there’s a big snag for me: the joining. For me, leastwise, you can get a pretty damn accurate gauge of feelings during it. This makes ME3 especially problematic. In ME2 I didn’t really have that much of  a problem with the way things played out when LotSB is included. Apprehension is understandable there.

Also, I have no idea what I was quoting there, but my “no, no it’s not” was more of a “no, I do not find this option to be a satisfying explanation” rather than referring to Liara’s past relationships. I think there was a more complete quote or statement in my head…

You would think that after LOTSB, Liara would know that Shepard is rather serious about their relationship.
