I'v got nothing against erotic fanfic, or fanfics that include graphic sex scenes. There are plenty of mainstream novels that include similar scenes. Take 50 Shades of Grey for instance. But like less risque fic I think it is important for the characters to stay in character, and any pairings in fan fiction have to make sense within the greater context of Bioware's story.

General rule for myself I steer well clear of fanfics with bizarre shipping of characters, the only one that is kinda bizarre but works is Aria/Tevos, Rae just wrote it so well!
Stories that involve Femshep/Liara that are way too saccharine and have no conflict are the most boring that I've come across, also badly written smut is painful to read.

To be honest I'd rather a clean slate, new characters, new experiences. I'd rather leave the characters we know and love well enough alone in the trilogy we have. Also welcome!

If the next game is set forward in the timeline and occurs sometime within 900 years of the Shepard Trilogy, Bioware is either going to have to either include Liara in a cameo or have an explanation as to why she isn't Shadow Broker. Because if the Shadow Broker is still around, he or she should be heavily involved in galactic events. That means you either need to include Liara in the story, explain why she isn't Shadow Broker, or explain why the Shadow Broker network no longer exists if that is the case.

Of course whether or not Liara should be appear in the game isn't an issue if Mass Effect 4 is set more than a thousand years after the Shepard trilogy. By that point she would likely be dead.

*If* ME4 is set during a time when Liara should still be alive, I'd love to see the character return even if just for a cameo. It would be interesting in particular if the next game were set several centuries after the Shepard trilogy, and Liara appeared as a  Matriarch. Also, one can never have too much Ali Hillis.

Sounds more like wish fulfillment where Shepard is just acting as a proxy for the author. Ugh...no thanks.

Two characters with virtually no characterisation and very little screen time, so that's not that bizarre.She just took that scene in ME3 and ran with it

You'd know the bad ones when you start into em, badly written smut is tragic however when it's written and handled well those stories are terrific! The more adult pieces aren't for everyone of course but they ain't all bad and what makes Rae's pieces stand head and shoulders above the others IMO is she can balance erotic, sweet and tender moments perfectly, the love scenes are realistic and express the love the two have for one another. Rae obviously takes inspiration from RL experiences, she's a grown woman and it shows in how she describes the love scenes so well. Sex is a big part of a loving relationship so reading stories that involve this doesn't bother me, when it's written well it adds to the experience.

I barely have the time to read anyone else’s…so I tend to only go for the highly recommended ones. Although, that said, I suppose I have to be thankful to those who go through everything to find those great ones.

I tend to stop reading very early, too…I guess I’ve come across a few in which I just find Liara (or someone else) terribly OOC. They’re not necessarily bad—as an example, tayg’s “Uncommon Bonds” is by all accounts a wonderful read, but it’s an AU featuring a very…worldly Liara, so it’s just not for me.

I was pretty skeptical about this pairing before I began reading it, the asari councillor bunking with a hardened criminal, a case of opposities attracting I suppose, and Aria is a pretty hot bad girl fantasy... just saying.

And good god, gilbert gottfried... you know, id totally buy that. I need to stop reading this forum when in an ICU waiting room, this really isnt the place to spontaneously burst out chuckling.  But god damn it was funny, too tired to resist a good laugh at this point.

well it lures you in, like an unmarked van with candy, with the promise of Liara and shepard, and control ending possibilities. That right there should've told me nothing good could come of it, but the van continued to beckon to me and my sci-fi interests ...i ventured on and...ive never been the same since. Anything non-destroy with Liara in it always gets a cautionary amber light now.
