My canon ending for Deus Ex: Human Revolution for example is the Sarif ending. But with Deus Ex: HR it felt like a fitting end, and one that was thematically consistent with the rest of the game. Synthesis just doesn't seem thematically consistent with Mass Effect, IMO. Through three games I never got the sense that the galaxy was headed in that direction. In fact it isn't even suggested until the last few minutes of ME3.
Also with Deus Ex: HR I didn't get the impression that I was replacing what makes us human with tech. Synthetic augments and every cell of a person being partially synthetic are not quite the same thing.

Question for the Liara fans...
With all this talk about another Mass Effect game being planned, there has been some speculation that Synthesis will be made canon. This speculation isn't entirely baseless, as it was fairly obvious that Synthesis was the writer's favorite. Furthermore Jessica Merizan apparently told one fan that Synthesis will eventually occur in the Mass Effect universe regardless of whether or not Shepard is the agent that brings it about. If her take on Synthesis is in line with how the writers view it, Synthesis is an inevitability for the ME universe.
It is possible that the next Mass Effect game could be set during Liara's lifetime, and if Synthesis occurs between games (for those that didn't choose it), Liara could end up partially synthetic regardless of whether or not your Shepard chose Synthesis.
How would you feel about cyborg Liara, or ME4 in general if Synthesis has occured?

I'm not opposed to the idea of Synthesis in Sci Fi in general.

A line by Mordin sums up the fate of the species of the Mass Effect universe, if Synthesis occurs:
"No glands, replaced by tech. No digestive system, replaced by tech. No soul, replaced by tech ."

I'm not sure I'd be interested in ME4 if Synthesis is canon.
Synthesis in ME isn't just a case of organics with mechanical limbs or implants, but organics that have somehow been completely (and magically) altered to be partially synthetic at the genetic level. That means that their brains, the organs which determine their personalities, have also been altered to be partially synthetic. This raises the question of whether altered people are even the same entities. Is cyborg Liara even Liara anymore? Would the Asari even exist anymore?
I say no.
Liara would no longer be Liara, and the Asari as we knew them would be as dead as if the Reapers had succeeded. The Asari would be gone and replaced by a partially synthetic other.

If you don't like spiders you might want to skim over the past few pages...

Well, you can just play Deus Ex: The Conspiracy and see that not all humans became cyborgs. It´s funny; Bioware chooses which ending is canon while Eidos/(back then) Ion Storm tried to incoporate all three endings in their games. It didn´t always work (*cough* Invisible War *cough*) but it´s certaintly a better approach than just screwing over those who didn´t choose the ending the devs. liked.

I played that for the PC actually.
I went with the Illuminati ending, in that one. I couldn't choose the Helios ending for similar reasons that I find Synthesis repulsive. And although I liked Tong as a character, the luddite 'destroy all tech' solution didn't sit well with me.

Luckily, the biggest thing we have here is the Trochosa robusta.

At least I think it is, I try to avoid spiders. There are probably types I don't even know of, waiting for me...

Aren't they fairly common in Bornholm though? Not exactly the north, but still, Scandinavia.
Luckily, I haven't encountered any robustas here in Aalborg. Maybe they're afraid of the dragons, werewolves and sea serpents over here.
