I've just asked my little brother what he thinks of Tali, but he didn't know who I was talking about. So I told him she was the girl in the purple helmet and he said "Oh, the squeaky robot!" I think 'squeaky robot' is the best nickname I've heard for Tali, ever.

He also can't get over the fact that Liara is 106 years old, and doesn't like Ashley because "she's a racist."

your bro seems to like stereotypes and while I'm not sure if squeaky robot is an insult or not,  I may slip that into one of my fics somewhere.  I like it.

How old is your brother, if you don't mind me asking? It sounds like he's quite young, and all of the material in the game might go over his head. I would be cautious with your brother; he might get the wrong impression on things in the game, because he might be too young to understand the significance other wise.

Nah, he'll be fine. He's 15, he just isn't very mature for his age. For example, the epitome of comedy for him is fart jokes.
I don't think the themes will be an issue, we had a laugh about the racist thing, so it isn't like it's traumatising him.

Hey, my sister was 12 when she first played Mass Effect, and she seemed to understand everything just fine. She actually really enjoyed Thane's romance, and I was able to go into some deep story discussions with her. I'm lucky I wasn't around to see her reactions to Thane's death...

Halo is fun in it's own right, but when you've only played those sorts of games, an open world RPG is pretty daunting.

I actually have a lot of love for Halo. It even has a hot blue girl in it, albeit a hologram.

The campaign and art style seems to be going back to the feel of the originals, so that's good enough for me tbh.
