Miranada... Why the hell would the alliance give it to her?

The only Logical choice is the VS, if they're alive. If not, then Hackett, or some other admiral.

The epilogue shows her working with alliance personel, and she was already the XO in ME2.

She's not going to go into the alliance and straight away and get command of a ship, especially the Normandy.
And her being XO in ME2 has nothing to do with it. Personally, her work a XO was more like a PA.

Read, I said that Ashley is 'equal' to Shepard. Since they are both LC's.

No shes a rank below him. Liutenant Commander(Ashely)-Commander(Shepard)-Captain(Previously Anderson.)
Lietunant Commander and Commander are two different ranks. Commander being higher

Shepard is a Liutenant Commander.

Copied from the WIKI.

"Lieutenant Commander Shepard is the human protagonist of Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, whose gender, appearance, skills and pre-service history are all customizable and have an impact on the story. Shepard's first name is also customizable, but is never stated in-game. The default pre-made Shepard is a male Soldier named John, with the Earthborn/Sole Survivor profile. "

Why is he only referred to as Commander as Ashley is never reffered to as Commander.

Dammit I forgot about Conrad completely. He's an extremely worthy candidate. I don't care what people say about him.

To make it easier to distinguish between them I assume, "Commander Shepard" is the iconic name/title for our protagonist, to use the rank with someone else would detract from its seeming uniqueness, no matter how logical it would be to use.

Also sorry for being late with this one Aristo, internet troubles.

Hey, Akernis...Just read your long post and wanted to say a few things.

I'm just gonna say things in a random order..I guess first, since I haven't been paying attention, what do you mean when people have been getting more "tasteless" in their discussions of Liara/turning her into a piece of meat? I can *assume* I know what you mean, but I don't want to assume.

Particularly because as you might remember, I don't think nudity is inherently tasteless. Nor do I think even sex is. I don't think merely being explicit is tasteless, I think it's about the tone and portrayal. But perhaps you agree and you are saying even images tasteless in tone images were posted, that aren't really about appreciating Liara or her character. I don't really know what was posted to spark that post of yours, so.

The bolded part is pretty much it, it was doozer who used the "piece of meat" phrase which I strongly dislike as that is one of the things I least like to see happening. Basically the pics that are simply done for their "hot alien/lesbian sex" or "hot blue alien" focus are those that I dislike, especially those that tend not to fucos on her face or expressions but only to show off her body. There is nothing wrong with savoury or nude pics or pics showing her body as long as they also give focus to her person and character.

I also want to say - you mention that Theo and I have semi-left the thread, I said it before and I want to repeat it. I still have an immense and deep appreciation for Liara, I'm still interested in her, and in Mass Effect...but
*snip*

I know, which was why I said semi-left the thread, not left Liara or ME as a whole.

Aristobulus500 wrote...
And worse than all of that, is Bioware. They just don't care anymore. *snip* they don't seem to have any desire to flesh out Liara more at all, as a character or as a romance

I can't really speak to that, I am not so cynical that I belive that there is no desire to do so, more along the lines of them having, in their eyes (however much I might disagree), more important things to do in the DLCs. I remain hopeful we see something more amazing about her before it is over, but that is just me.

Aristobulus500 wrote...
nor do they seem to want to provide her and Shep a proper epilogue or anything like that.

While we have known that since the the EC it still bothers me more than just about anything in any game, movie or book ever has but I just they they releases some other content to make up for it.

Aristobulus500 wrote...
Seems like the majority of art that gets posted these days is like 90% repeats, and then the remainder is just art I don't find all that appealing, either it's just not that well drawn or it's tasteless and misses the point of Liara's character.

I guess people aren't making any new art either. So that's why I've been around the thread less.

While I agree that not much new is posted I think that it is unfair to say that nothing new is created, quite a few good relatively new pieces have been created IMO.

Than shouldnt Kaidan be in charge of the Normandy if he's the higher rank? What officer takes orders from the rank below. Both are spectres correct?

He also shares my surname, sort of. Therefore, he must be my descendant, and therefore, he gets the Normandy. :wizard:

Shepard had Spectre seniority, also the VS' role as Spectre is so little use (I don't even think it is mentioned or reffered to at all beyond the point of him/her protectingthe Council) that it might as well have been avoided altogether.

Goes through last few pages of thread, sees sheploo, awkwardness arises, throws sheploo of a boat into the ocean; which is filled with box jellyfish.

Box Jellyfish:
This jellyfish is responsible for more deaths in Australian than Snakes, Sharks and Salt Water Crocodiles.

The Normandy is given to Sheoard by Admiral Anderson and as Kaidan is only Shepard's superior in the Alliance Cahin-of-command he cannot take it away from him/her since Spectre authority supercedes that of an Alliance officer.
Furtheremore there is the matter of Kaidan's personal respect for Shepard and that Hackett would likely overrule him even if he tried, and even  in the unlikely case that things came to a head the crew would back Shepard, making it hard to take the vessel.

I think I will have to leave for today, my internet connection is nearly impossibly to get working.

Lieutenant commander and major are equal ranks in the US Armed Forces: both are O-4s.  Kaidan's never survived ME1 in my playthrus, so I don't know--does the game ever explicitly state that he outranks Shepard?  (I wouldn't be surprised; it wouldn't be the first goof on military matters in the series.)

Also, Lietenant commanders and lieutenant colonels are often just referred to as 'commander' or 'colonel' in conversation, for the sake of brevity.

It doesn't make much sense that the VS received another promotion in ME3...but I guess THE Shepard outranks everyone ^_^
