That can work, sometimes it is far more interesting when the character has trouple with the romance in the beginning, makes it all the more potent when it does work out.
One of my favourite fanfics has a firmly cold and agressive renegade Shepard who is in the writer's own words "a rough diamind if ever there was one" in love with Liara and it is extremely interesting to read how she gradually opens up to Liara Posted Image

I just can't help myself, Kaelis is very ineterested in helping LIara in any way he can Posted Image

Agreed. Having the romance be just perfect can quite easily be dull, if there is no drama then there is no real reason to get involved as nothing is at stake.

That said, I feel the drama should mostly be in the middle of the story. While I do not think that Liara and Shepard should automaticly fall in love with each other the moment they meet on Therum, the romance in ME1 should not be too drama filled. It is only in ME2 where both characters and their realtionship must suffer and endure.

Hmm, that sounds a bit like my canon Shepard. I kind of RP'd the crap out of him.

He was a Colonist+Sole Survivor, so he understandably didn't think much of life at the time of ME1. He sort of ran off the mindset of 'life sucks and then you die,' and that really showed, seeing as for the former part of ME1 he was cold, ruthless and ridiculously pessimistic about pretty much everything; and then Liara came around, and after that I gradually made him progress through the path of pure Renegade->Renagon->Paragade->Paragon as he slowly gained more he wanted to live for. By ME3, he was Paragon to the bone.

Of course, I had to Lorik Q'in glitch to pull this off, but it was quite enjoyable...

Sounds quite interesting to play, most of my characters in most RPGs tend to stay rather consistant and true to their core beliefs, whatever thair personality so I rarely really evolve them. My Shepard is probably one of my most boring characters in terms of faults and such, though I am gradually getting better at balancing it out, both for him and in general.

A few pages back TheCrimsonSpire was talking about getting a Liara tattoo perhaps in the near future, saw this person on deviant art sporting this new ink, it's not completed yet, still a bit of colouring and line work to be done but still it looks pretty sweet so far.:) I'd still never get an ME tatt myself, but I like this one.:wizard:

I would never get a tattoo based off a piece of media that not everyone will know about, personally. I prefer tattoos to be more personal; which is why I only have one at the moment...

This Shepard still showed his Renegade side when he needed to, though. Old habits die hard, y'know.

And he still hated batarians with a passion. Even Liara's Paragon counsel couldn't overcome that prejudice.

I love ME but I know I'd end up regreting it a few years down the line if I got a ME tatt and after what happened with ME3 erm no thanks.<_< Trying to explain the tatt to people who are unfamilar with videogames and such could get tiresome too.

Hell my Shepard is quite paragon and he takes renegade options when appropriate, simply playing an exclusively paragon/renegade seems somewhat boring, never mind either extreme makes for a bad character, a starry-eyes holier-than-thou soldier who will never step a toe out of line or an all-but psychotic murderer who cares nothing for the feelings or well-being of the people around him/her.

Agreed. Unfortunately, BioWare disagrees with us though. I can't count how many times in ME2-3 that I haven't had enough Renegade/Paragon points because I chose to RP my character. I really hate ME's morality system sometimes...<_<

At least ME1 had the Lork Q'in glitch...

There is a glitch to get infinite paragon or renegade points in ME2, it just takes quite some patience to pull off.

I never had a problem with having enough points in ME3 though since both paragon a renegade points stack.

I would never have the patience to do that, though. So, yeah, really the problem was only in ME2 for me. They improved it a bit in ME3, but I still ran into some spots where both options were grayed out. Could just be my game bugging out I guess.

i actually liked having the restrictions - didn't have a high enough score, it added a quirk to the RPed story. For something different. Felt a litlte more honest than being strictly...renegade or paragon. My shep had trouble with morinth for example, dress that up - insert that weakness into headcanon. uhhh zaeed died ...not enough points (had him early on..so.. meh) but yea anyways, didn't mind the whole not hitting the requirments thing for a canon pt.

Look guys I have a real personal question to ask. I don't want it shunned away by trolls on the main board, so I'll ask here. Do any of you think it is weird that I have become obscenely emotionally attached to the Mass Effect itself? It doesn't even just come down for my undeniable "want or connection" to Liara/Tali (Tali would be my choice on a non-canon playthrough), its everything I have perceived throughout the game series. So many things have jump started my interest and urges in real life relating to the Mass Effect universe. For example, Biotics and all the implications. Not too long ago someone posted a thread, that there is a new Compound/Element capable of early stage electromagnetic field manipulation (I.E. The manipulation of Mass Effect fields in ME but in a real life scale). It even boils down to some of the technology in the universe that I have been researching to be feasible or not. Hell, I have even gone as far as looking into the possible long term life extension. And this is all due to my interest in the life span of Krogan's and Asari in Mass Effect! And if any of you were wondering if my madness quelled any rumors, well it is theoretically possible we can extend our life span by obscene fold, and the person who is the head of this theory (Not a theory anymore since several organism's he has tested have come back with ten fold the lifespan testing) has stated now, it is not a matter of if we would have the technology for it, it is rather the ethical meaning behind it and how religion would interfere.

Here are two links: http://blogs.discove...far-should.html
http://en.wikipedia..../Aubrey_de_Grey

The first is an article based on his findings and the second is of the man, the genius himself.

I know, I'm weird and this is way off topic, but seriously I obviously wouldn't feel confident putting this out in the regular social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc..). Does this sound weird to you? *Hides in a corner*

I guess, I just prefer systems like, say, Deus Ex: HR, where rather than a Paragon/Renegade score, you get the ideal outcome of the conversation by choosing one of the correct paths you can take in the exchange. Made me really have to think hard about what I would do if I were in this situation, seeing as there wasn't anything saying 'CHOOSE THIS DIALOGUE OPTION TO WIN.'

No I do not think that it is wierd.
I am in love with Liara likely beyond what would be considered "healthy" by many though I don't really care; while I like the rest of the ME-universe I am not extremely focused about it, would probably have moved on to other games entirely were it not for Liara. But nevertheless I understand your passion even if I do not share it at that level, and no shame in that. If one finds something that fasinates with a burning desire and one is able to enjoy that then great Posted Image

@ N7Assassin: We all have something that ignited our passions to search out more knowledge and understanding on a specific topic, satiating a curiosity that leads us into pursuing dreams and such. Scientists and whose-its and what-have-you's have been mulling over ideas invented in fantasy, books, and sci fi television for years, why would it be weird? Like its the tech and stuff youre gaga over right? Its not like...dating a fictional character and trying to clone/create her/him into existence or anything right? because thats kinda weird... *pushes the giant liara pin up and bio/chem papers of what liara's sweat would taste like into the closet* ...really weird. :P
