Look guys I have a real personal question to ask. I don't want it shunned away by trolls on the main board, so I'll ask here. Do any of you think it is weird that I have become obscenely emotionally attached to the Mass Effect itself? It doesn't even just come down for my undeniable "want or connection" to Liara/Tali (Tali would be my choice on a non-canon playthrough), its everything I have perceived throughout the game series. So many things have jump started my interest and urges in real life relating to the Mass Effect universe. For example, Biotics and all the implications. Not too long ago someone posted a thread, that there is a new Compound/Element capable of early stage electromagnetic field manipulation (I.E. The manipulation of Mass Effect fields in ME but in a real life scale). It even boils down to some of the technology in the universe that I have been researching to be feasible or not. Hell, I have even gone as far as looking into the possible long term life extension. And this is all due to my interest in the life span of Krogan's and Asari in Mass Effect! And if any of you were wondering if my madness quelled any rumors, well it is theoretically possible we can extend our life span by obscene fold, and the person who is the head of this theory (Not a theory anymore since several organism's he has tested have come back with ten fold the lifespan testing) has stated now, it is not a matter of if we would have the technology for it, it is rather the ethical meaning behind it and how religion would interfere.

Nah your not wierd.
Well...that is because lots of the stuff brought up in Mass effect is based lossly on real science, or real ideas brought up by researchers. Also some of that stuff is on the very leading edge of research. Things like dark energy and dark mater, or various quantum effects. Ideas like quantum entanglement or the way that Mass Effect feilds distort gravity came from those.
But the Mass Effect series has made me also think about real world technologies and science just like you. Interest in stuff like that in general is part of why im studying mechanical engineering, to know how stuff works. We commonly go over moral and ethical questions like the increased life span one in class because we know its coming;P
The game promotes the ideas of science through science fiction, One of the goals of these guys, wich i see as a kind of real life tech Cerberus for good guys;P

Firstly, you're not weird. And in a way, I'm like you. But, I didn't look into real life biotics or life expansion. I looked into physics (of most types) and astronomy. I was always a bit of a science nerd in school, not the sci-fi programmes, but actual science.
The discovery of the Higgs particle, much like with the experiement in the 1930's (?) with smashing atoms together, brought us nuclear power, the atom bomb and countless other side inventions/tech and discoveries. I'm not a particle physicist, but I know some information about partical. the Higgs partical is what gives mass to objects by interacting with it/them. But, no body knows just yet what tech will come from this.
Fingers crossed, is all I can say.

I'm studying deeply into Biology and Chemistry in school (Still in High School but I'm interested in things far beyond the comprehension of the stereotypical teenager) maybe to get some insight into my theories or what I am interested in. I bombed my Punnett square quiz (Albeit it weighing like 0.5 % of my grade) but I am still confident I will do fine in the course. Nice to know I have a place here theoretically with you guys

You're not weird.
I don't see the harm in loving something fictional, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the real world. I love Liara as a character, but I've never used her as an excuse to cut myself out of the outside world. I have a girlfriend/would-be-fiancee-if-the-economy-didn't-screw-me-over that I love, I would've still had a relatively well-paying job if, once again, the economy didn't screw me over, and I have good connections with a lot of people from the workplace, old school friends, etc. Basically, I have a pretty good life going; but people out there still label everyone who loves a fictional character as a lonely creep residing in their parent's basements.
And I just want to get this off my chest; people always poke fun at others for finding video game characters attractive, but what's the difference between finding someone in a painting attractive? I've never seen anyone raise an eyebrow at that.
Although you were more talking about the scientific side of it, and I say, why not? The stuff is interesting.
Not really too related to the scientific side, but I just felt like getting that off my chest. Apologies...

I feel exactly the same as you in that sense. I don't really let it get in the way of real life, but seriously some of the BS I have to go through at school and everyday societal interventions, sometimes I wish I could slip up and be magically transported into the ME universe. Some things in today's society are just an abomination. I also understand the economy situation you went through. What's funny is that my father instead of faltering broke countless records in Canadian automobile sales

Haha, the only reason I did really poor was because, my teacher started Genotype/Phenotype pedigrees (The Inheritance patterns of possible genetic mutations, I.E. Autosomal Dominant Inheritance) while I was very ill for three days (Missing that plus the application of stated pedigrees for Genotypes) but I don't blame her. It was under my discretion to miss the school, and I will redeem myself

I don't think that's weird at all. In fact, that sounds like something I would do, if time permitted me to. Finding a way to turn fiction into reality sounds really cool. Imagine if warp drives became a reality.

I'm curious CrimsonN7, how does your girlfriend feel about you having an infactuation with Liara. Doesn't that make the relationship kinda awkward, with your sorta cheating on her for a fictional blue alien chick?
Not that I think that's a bad thing just so we are clear.
