Was it "the Kirk?" I don't think so, just because she's so key to the plot in every way.  If she was just throwaway fluff, they didn't need to make her the most important squad member.

You have a point
The problem i see with Liara is that she also had to be kind of an enciclopedia about her species in ME1, and the most special thing about this species happens to be their way of reproduction. Because of this, the romance could feel more rushed or just desire driven in comparation to the humans LI's, who shared more personal conversations instead of acting as information givers

Tali was worse.

"Hey Tali"
"Hey Shepard"
"So... about your people..."
"Well, you see... [ten paragraphs later]"

...

"I should go"

To play devil's advocate, Tali's 'stuff' in ME1 focused on the politics, history, and culture of the quarians and not mainly just 'Oh, we are totally sexually compatible with humans and can even have your babies!' like Liara's does.  I think that's better ( I would like to learn more about asari culture/politics myself).

I'd say that Tali is justified in trying to educate Shepard about her people, given the prejudices surrounding them.

Liara wasn't so much an encyclopedia of her species...she was more of an encyclopedia on why her species can mate and have babies with any other species.

It might have been because Tali wasn't romanceable, but I dunno, it just felt like you could talk about other stuff with Liara than just "heres a ten paragraph lecture about asari doodads X, Y and Z" whereas Tali was ... kinda just felt like herself as a character didn't really develop, that she was more just a mouthpiece to the player for the Quarian race. I mean I suppose Liara, Wrex and maybe even Garrus are the same to a certain extent, but you get actual character development out of them too.

I thought Tali was great in ME2, but I just didn't see why some people liked her so much in ME1; I found her kinda bland.

Just replayed LotSB again :P
I like this moment when Liara goes to change to get up on the Normandy, right after you tell her that you want to continue their relationship.

Not to turn this into a Tali defense thread, but if you go far enough in Tali's ME1 dialog, she does bring up her personal issues involving her mother and father (and his expectations for her).  I feel like ME2 Tali was just an extension of ME1 Tali and what we saw there.

How on earth did I miss that :pinched:

I take it I just gotta do the usual "talk to everyone after every major plot point" thing? I must have missed out Tali a few times before, I don't ever remember her mentioning her parents.

No offence but I believe that we should stop the whole "We're on page BLABLA" I think it actually can get the thread locked down.

That reminds me it's about time for me to do Lotsb again. I try to delay it as long as possible ( I still do it before the SM but as late as possible). Just samara left to pick up and a few loyalty missions, overlord and scanning a system or 2 or 3. When to do Lotsb? Difficult... very difficult.

Okay, trying to get a subtopic going that hasn't been done to death...

If you could have your Shepard respond to Liara-related sequences in unique ways (i.e. not existing in the game), what would they be?

Gotta say, my Colonist Paragon would be just a little bit Renegade with anyone who messed with his blue goddess. "You hurt Liara" would be the last thing that several villains ever heard, particularly the krogan battlemaster on Therum, Saren, Vasir and the old Shadow Broker. (I'm even working on a fanfic focusing on their romance.) It scares the unholy crap out of my Shepard just how much of his long-buried rage comes roaring to the surface when anyone messes with the woman he loves. (Even TIM is going to regret lying about Liara's...relationship...with the Shadow Broker.)

Nice idea.

For me i'd just like to see some different options. For example:

"Do you want to come to my room for dinner?" - Have it fade to Shepards cabin where they are having dinner and open up an entirely new dialogue tree unavailable in the rest of the game. Just take it as an chance to ask things about her past and even as a chance for her to ask you questions so you can fill out a bit more about Shepards history.

-For the most part it'd just be Robert Shepard showing a bit more of his emotions. Shep just seems a bit reclusive with his emotions and then other times just a bit creepy lol. Would be more a case of spoiling her with the odd present from time to time. Like the artifacts in ME2, they'd have gone straight to Liara.

I want Liara to make an effort to a change, maybe treat Shepard. It's always Shepard making the first move, suggesting ideas etc etc to all love interests. I wanna see Liara suggest ideas such as a dinner.

One of my Favorite Facal expresstion is in ME1, where Sheperd says "sounds like you want to dicect me in a lab."

Her reaction right after that is so Funny, and Cute
it never gets old even after my 6th play though on ME1, and it wont be any less on the 7th

1. We don't have time to go on dates during ME3 so I doubt we'll see Liara suggesting going out for dinner together.
2. In order to at least try to keep down the anti S/S romance people, BioWare (says they) made sure Shepard has to make the first move in ME3 when it comes to romance, to avoid a situation like Anders in DA2. Doesn't mean this also counts for those who are already in a romance so take it for what it is...

When I first read what Minos posted I quite agreed but you do bring up a good point.

The first is pretty redundant because there will be plenty of downtime while travelling between places. Whether they can enjoy it or not is a different matter lol.

As for the second, I totally forgot about that. I'll be honest, when Anders tried hitting on my Hawke I was a bit taken back. All I tried to do was be a mate and he tries to molest me lol. Still, I guess thats what happens when having to appeal to all walks of life, which it should be I guess.

The best part is that first she starts to panic that, no that's not what she meant, and when Shepard says that, relax, I was only joking, she becomes so embarrassed that I can almost feel her embarrassment myself .  Guess that being alone for fifty years does that.

I didn't mean dates Robhuz, I meant like instead of Shepard buying serrice brandy for Chakwas, food for the chef, offering a tour for tour for Liara and offering drinks for Liara, why not they offer something? Maybe Joker offers Shepard a little play with the ship controls (off screen), maybe Chakwas this time buys a serrice ice and meets Shepard in the captain quarters, liara could give Shepard a surprise picture. Shepard always gives and rarely takes or be given something nice. I am fully aware that dates are not going to happen.

And i didn't mean that squad mates make the first move. I was also taken back wh Anders said that.
