I absolutely adore Liara. I think she is one of the best game characters ever!

"In Mars, when we (sheps) first see her in ME3 I found she acted a little cold. Did you guys feel the same?"

I think it has to do with the developers not wanting to make Liara too 'stalkerish' as per prior discussion. If you did not romance her, it would have been weird if she was too excited to see you/Shep.

In Mars, when we (sheps) first see her in ME3 I found she acted a little cold. Did you guys feel the same?

I like to think she was or embarrassed by the presence of other people or with some defense mechanism since shep dies/come back/go "arrested"/come back/and might die again.

Or she was kinda afraid of something might have changed between them, what makes sense and does not make sense at the same time.

It makes sense when she asks later if we should continue the romance and that she was concerned about it.

And it doesn't make sense because the way shep looks and talks to her in Mars is pretty obvious to me.

Anyway, I wish we could've seen more of Shep/Liara moments..

I didn't think Liara was portrayed as cold on Mars. Quite the opposite in fact. The only issues I had with how she was written in Mass Effect 3 was her using the word 'friend' to refer to Shepard even if the two were romantically involved, and needing multiple 'are you sure' prompts before the romance arc would get locked in. In retrospect I think that was a consequence of word budgets and needing to accommodate multiple relationship states (friendship / long term romance / new romance) and an overreaction to past criticism about ninjamancing.

I also thought her role as Shadowbroker was under utilized and that she was partially undercut by shifting a scene originally written for her to Traynor. (tracking Kai Leng to Horizon post-Thessia) That may have also been an overreaction to criticism, as some complained that Liara had too large a role after the leak of an early draft of the script. That is purely speculation on my part though, and it may just be that someone thought Traynor needed more content and the shift had nothing to do with criticism of Liara's role following the early leak. In either case I think it would have been better had that scene remained Liara's, with Traynor instead getting original content. If the shift was an overreaction to criticism, it was a pointless overreaction, as the people griping were fans who hate the character anyway, and they were going to criticize any role she played in the game short of her being shipped off to Hackett.

Overall however I didn't have much to complain about. I thought Liara's best content by far in the entire series is in Mass Effect 3 (LotSB being a close runner up), and as far as potential LIs go she got much better treatment by the writers than just about every character not named Garrus.

Traynor

Literally muh toothbrush: the character. Would gladly let her be incinerated by Reaper laser for 10 more minutes of any of old squadmates(yes even Katsumi or Zaeed).

Liara just shouldn't have become Shadowbroker. It did nothing really for her character or the storyline, except I suppose it gave her an excuse for not going along with Shepard in ME2, and it just gets in the way in ME3.

Having her as a talented but basically small time information broker with specialised interests would have been fine. Just as Tali works better for me when she's not an Admiral. There wasn't any real need for Garrus to be made so high ranking, either.

How does her being shadow broker get in the way in ME3?

How does Tali being an Admiral not work? Same with Garrus.

Besides a few lines of dialog their titles really mean nothing. And changes nothing about their personality.

Because she's got this big, important job, but its basically irrelevant and that doesn't make much sense. And it means that whenever she doesn't know something, she's more or less failing at her job, because the Shadowbroker is supposed to know more or less everything. And the writers, fairly naturally, don't want to have an all-knowing character spoiling all their surprises, so she ends up "failing" rather a lot.

Tali basically doesn't act like an Admiral, at all. She has none of the authority, she mostly just acts as a tech specialist. This is reasonable, because she's decades away from being suited to be an admiral, but it makes her look rather weak.

Garrus' rank is irrelevant enough to be pretty harmless, but its pointless and silly. There's no reason he should have it, except that the writers seem to have decided that all the ME1 companions should get huge promotions.

Well, yes, that's a lot of the problem. Having those titles should mean something.

1. Cerberus attacked her main base of operation. When she blew it up rather then let them get their hands on it she only salvaged what she could and set up shop on the Normandy.

2. Shadow Broker is not Omnipotent. In ME1 there was next to nothing about Cerberus the guy that contacts you after the mission even admits we know about as much as the Broker does. This tread has not changed from ME1 to ME3. Reapers are unknowable in and of themselves. She has no way to spy or learn anything about them.

Tali does act like an Admiral how ever she is still a new one. As with many cases seniority has it's perks. Older Admirals will have more pull because they are older and more experienced. Her promotion to Admiral is because she has the most knowledge about the Geth due to all the geth she helped kill with Shepard.  Also if you promote peace between Geth and Quarian has the minority of opinion on the war.

Garrus was promoted again because he was the only Turian who has any knowledge of the Reapers. So they promoted him hoping his knowledge would help them. Garrus even points this out asking something along the lines of "how could anyone know about this?"

Every actions has a valid reason and none of them detract from the character in any significant or minor way.

I think it was probably budget/time constraints. ME3 really does have a massive amount of dialogue. It might have just been too much to ask for them to have every scene between Shep and Liara (or any of the other characters) different depending on whether they were LIs, friend, or just a squadmate. It was frustrating at times if she was the LI and she still calls you a friend after you have already confirmed your relationship previously. Also, if you romanced her in LotSB, your relationship is way beyond just casual dating (you are already joking about marriage, old age and little blue children!) so some of the dialogue is really nonsensical ('are you still interested in us, Shepard?'). I think the worse scene for those who romanced Liara throughout was the 'lock-in' scene on the Citadel. It starts out cute with her talking about her childhood but then she starts talking about her mother and Shepard asks something stupid like 'what was she like?'. This is something you would ask a new acquaintance and not someone you have known for years! I'm sorry but after killing her mother three years ago, even if you are just a casual friend trying to cheer up a grieving friend, you would have asked, 'what was your mother like' way before then. This is more like something you would say to a new friend or acquaintance. 'Your mother died 3 years ago? I'm sorry to hear that. What was she like?'

I agree. The SB was trying to find a way to protect himself from the reapers but had not found it because he was not omnipotent. Also, Liara was able to find the Crucible! That's pretty important and saves everyone. It is not clear whether she would have known to look on Mars without her SB resources. Not to mention many 'in-game' side dialogues/messages that show just how much the SB is helping to build the Crucible ie sending supplies, resources, scientists, etc.

I've gone through all the LI options in the trilogy. Liara is still my beau. My Shepard's heart beats bright blue.

There is a comic that delves into how Liara ended up on Mars. I haven't read it (one of the Homeworld comics), but her wiki page gives a brief summary.

At times in Mass Effect 3, though I wouldn't say she sounded that way through the entire game.

In ME3 I thought her somewhat somber mood was appropriate, given the backdrop.

I thought her voice sounded breathier (like Marilyn Monroe). I thought it was an attempt to make her sexier like the increased bust size and darker, more defined eyes. At least it wasn't as bad as what they did to Ashley. I swear she never would have fit into the armor she wore in ME 1!

I prefer me2/3 Liara by far over 1. 1 is just a walking trope.
Traynor would have been better off as a regular ordinary crew mate you could romance, one who is not tied to the plot. This would free up Liara to do her thing and make Traynor a refreshingly ordinary person for Shep to romance.

My complaint was you couldn't marry her right then and there. You could have the batarian preacher down in the docks to it (only if you give him the artifact you find on his homeworld) get a few friends together and bam instant marriage scene and not just for Liara but all the LIs.

That would have been fantastic and it would have totally made sense in the context of the story. Times were desperate so of course, Shepard and her LI would have wanted to make the most of what time that they had.
