I think a lot of people are missing the point of that statue.

It's a Bishoujo statue; Kotobukiya specializes in that stuff; BioWare knew exactly what it was getting into when they partnered with them. It's supposed to be oversexualized.

It's not my cup of tea either, but we can all stop acting like somehow BioWare is ruining Liara forever...

I don't think anyone here thinks BW is ruing Liara with that statue.

Personally; I'm waiting until the statue is finished and painted before making my final judgement. For one; I doubt the mouth will look so tiny when her lips are painted in.

Anyways...

Speaking of Samara, how unlucky is she, srsly? The chance to have one Ardat-Yakshi child is already very small. She had three of them. The odds on that are infinitesimally small. Poor lady.

I suppose they could have been triplets, but Samara refers to Morinth as her eldest child, so I rather doubt that.

But even if they were triplets, the odds on having triplets (at least in human terms) are also exceedingly small. So Ardat-Yakshi triplets would again be super super super duper rare.

So yeah, Samara... very very unlucky. lol.

Honestly, I can look past the oversexualized boobs, hips, and pencil size waist.. but that's NOT Liara's face! Not even close!
This statue makes Liara cry! /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/137365.gif

Well, we'll have to wait till it's painted to give a final judgement, but I'm sure I'm not going to buy it. I don't want an oversexualized statue of Liara. I'd rather they try making a more accurate, and realistic figure.

Well yeah that was my criticism also. Something about her face isn't right... I think it's her big forehead.

But the concept drawing that was the basis of the statue... it is what it is, a statue that appeals to a niche group... no big deal.

I'd buy a statue that looked like Liara in game.  I'd do it in a heart beat.  But they seem to be going a anime route and I'm not interested.

I think that Liara statuette was sent in here by another thread to corrupt ours...

Taken quite the turn - bioobs and buttoxs in near every-other post

Not really, T&A is nice but it's not why we all love liara.
It's because she is smart, cunning, even ruthless when necessary and absolutely beautiful.
Also those eyes...

I know - and I dare not question the Liara-squads devouted reasoning (And I don't think anyone can question dem eyes...)
I'm just sayin': The last page or two has had an awfully...T&A...twist to it

oh yeah. dem eyes :)

This will probably be the only Liara merchandise we'll ever see.

*steals crying smilie*

It's not to my taste (I don't like the face and I'm not sure why the back of her armor butt cape thingy is all up in the air with her butt exposed) but whatever.

Casey, i'm disappoint

That statue does not do Liara any justice. I mean, the exaggerated body is one thing, but the total face structure change to near anime?? I am disappointed to say the least.

Atleast give the artist a chance to paint it imho. It may turn out ok. Face wise, a lick of paint can do wonders, as women know already hence why they plaster it on a lot of the time lol.

If painting depicts the Liara we all know, then I agree. But painitng won't change the restructuring of what Liara is in that statue. Painted or not, the physical features, sans coloring, is already there. I actually think it may make my impressions worse since painting it will highlight those changes even more.

I'm waiting till I see the final product after painted and such before I pass a judgement personally. The breast size, the slimiline figure and such is fine by me, that is the style the artist uses to create his products. As for the face until I see the final product I can't justify criticizing it as it may or may not turn out to resemble Liara.

At this stage I don't know if will or won't. Hence the waiting till it's finished.

Sorry, no amount of paint will make this look like Liara.  People are free to think what they want, of course, but Thats is not Liara's face, paint or no paint. It is the face of the average Anime female though, which is not Liara.

Of course it isn't. I can't think of a single person who would look like themselves when sculpted in that style. But an exact resemblance is not neccesarily paramount.

Take fan art for example; artist's styles vary in countless ways. Most of the fan art I've seen done of Liara don't look much like her appearance in the game. But this does not keep me from enjoying the Liara-ness --for lack of a better term-- that is meant to be conveyed in the artwork itself.

All this waiting..... for nothing.

On the plus side, we can use this as practice for when they kill Shepard at the end of ME3.

Well what did you guys expect Casey to say? "The new Liara statue sucks because it's too sexual?" He's kinda forced to have his hands tied in situations like this. It's like your 5 year old showing you some stupid drawing they made in art class, and you pretending to really care so you hang it on your refrigerator.

The difference is, this is not "fan art", it's a BioWare product that they will be charging a considerable amount of $ for. If they approve this and promote it, they will be officially changing her canon appearance.
Sorry, I love Liara the way she is, not some mangled anime version with a face that could never be recognised as Liara if it wasn't attached to her unique armor.

It is just a prototype, so hopefully they will see all the feedback and they will adjust things like her face for the next prototype.

Liara's appearance hasn't been touched. The only difference is she's being rendered in a dramatically different style. A style for which the company who makes these statues is known. I'm no anime aficionado, but according to my experience with the subject; when you take away other defining features such as hair and clothing, I think you'd find that many characters drawn in anime style look fundimentally similar. Now, Liara doesn't have hair, but she does have other recognizable features such as her crest coloration and armor; things that a Mass Effect fan would recognize, and they are aiming for the Mass Effect fan demographic with this.

More to the point; how does this officially change her cannonial appearance? Mass Effect isn't anime, but this statue is, thusly Liara looks different in this instance because of the style. That's the extent of it, as far as I see it.

If this statue in any way alters or has altered Liara's appearance in the game or anything else, I will personally sautee my particularly fashionable fedora with onions, pour some gravy on that sucker and chow down.
