Atleast give the artist a chance to paint it imho. It may turn out ok. Face wise, a lick of paint can do wonders, as women know already hence why they plaster it on a lot of the time lol.
Sorry, no amount of paint will make this look like Liara. People are free to think what they want, of course, but Thats is not Liara's face, paint or no paint. It is the face of the average Anime female though, which is not Liara.
Of course it isn't. I can't think of a single person who would look like themselves when sculpted in that style. But an exact resemblance is not neccesarily paramount.
Take fan art for example; artist's styles vary in countless ways. Most of the fan art I've seen done of Liara don't look much like her appearance in the game. But this does not keep me from enjoying the Liara-ness --for lack of a better term-- that is meant to be conveyed in the artwork itself.
The difference is, this is not "fan art", it's a BioWare product that they will be charging a considerable amount of $ for. If they approve this and promote it, they will be officially changing her canon appearance.
Sorry, I love Liara the way she is, not some mangled anime version with a face that could never be recognised as Liara if it wasn't attached to her unique armor.
Liara's appearance hasn't been touched. The only difference is she's being rendered in a dramatically different style. A style for which the company who makes these statues is known. I'm no anime aficionado, but according to my experience with the subject; when you take away other defining features such as hair and clothing, I think you'd find that many characters drawn in anime style look fundimentally similar. Now, Liara doesn't have hair, but she does have other recognizable features such as her crest coloration and armor; things that a Mass Effect fan would recognize, and they are aiming for the Mass Effect fan demographic with this.
More to the point; how does this officially change her cannonial appearance? Mass Effect isn't anime, but this statue is, thusly Liara looks different in this instance because of the style. That's the extent of it, as far as I see it.
If this statue in any way alters or has altered Liara's appearance in the game or anything else, I will personally sautee my particularly fashionable fedora with onions, pour some gravy on that sucker and chow down.
