You should be able to break it off with Garrus by choosing the right dialogue options. I wanted to post a link but the only vid I could find was in german and my german is bad and I don't think it was from after the suicide mission.
One of my favourite pieces of dialogue from LotSB is Liara saying "Commander are you jealous? Maybe you should do something about it". I'm pretty sure you can only get that if you cheat, which I have only done twice and not doing again!
The jealous line is great too. Renegade Shep gets it always.
EDIT:@TheMarshal-I think Shep gets snippy about the hacking if you stayed faithful to Liara or never romanced her in ME. I would have to do that over to confirm it.
I just read about the Thane thing, which I did find odd too. I am not 100% sure on that.
Sounds like a glitch to me, I never had problems with dumping the ME2 LI.
"Commander are you jealous?" line isn't the cheating one. You can get that line if you stayed faithfull and don't do the Paragon kiss.
If you cheat on Liara it's very important to do all the Paragon interrupts. If you don't, the romance stops. So you have to break up with your ME2 LI.
If you do all the Paragon interrupts and have a ME2 LI, then you get the Cheater line.
My theory is, that the Paragon kiss is very important.
I will have to do more testing, the savegame were my femShep romanced Miri and Liara always comes in handy for testing.

I didn't do the paragon kiss and I still got back with Liara, but I can't break it off with Garrus. You have to say to Liara that you want to talk about us. She then says she knows you are with someone, and you just tell Liara, you want her. That is when she said she didn't want any issues or bickering. I will have to play that again to know exactly what she says. Maybe I should use my laptop and record it. I saved it right before going into the Shadow Brokers room. Beating him is not an issue with my engineer Shepard. Which is the Shep, I'm refering to with this issue.kumquats wrote...

I have done it both ways. No interrupt kiss and doing the kiss. If you do the kiss, Liara acts like you were never with anyone. Which is weird because she snapped about it on the balcony if you did the DLC after the SM. I don't blame her, that Shep is a tool.
If I can't get it resolved, I will let it ride and import that Shep to ME3 and see what happens.

I believe you get this dialogue as well if you don't use the paragon interrupt kiss after lotsb (but seriously who would purposely not use this interrupt) and then ask 'So, you and Feron?' Then Liara will ask Shepard if he's jealous and he should do something about it. Just be sure to talk 'about us' instead of saying goodbye or the romance will end (but you probably know that already)

Sounds all very buggy to me and I'm not 100% sure how important the other interrupts are.
I will try out one playthrough without any paragon interrupts and see what happens, I can remember one playthrough where I couldn't get back together with her and I think that was the only difference.
[edit]
Maybe the jealous line comes up if you don't klick on the talking about the relationship path? If you just walk away?

Hmm interesting Rob... not going to do it anytime soon though.
@LV - Usually I don't mind a few more playthroughs but I'm making some single FemSheps for ME3 and going through the game without Liara is sad
It doesn't make it any less fun or interesting just makes me kinda sad. March, hurry up and get here!

Indeed what's another playthrough? I've got my plans all laid out for a new sentinel Shepard starting in ME1 but I need to take some time away from ME now. Maybe I'll do another ME1 playthrough in a few months or so.

Well, since BW keeps bragging about ME3 being 'the best place to enter the series' I'd imagine we're getting an expansive comic or choice system at the start of ME3 for new characters. Why don't you just create a new single Shepard in ME3 when the time comes?

I've thought about it but I want all the extras that might come with an import as BioWare have also said choices from ME1 will be involved in ME3.
I also thought about just making one sinlge MShep and FemShep in ME1 and doing multiples in ME2 but I like each of my plays to be slightly different from the others. My own sillyness really.
That expansive comic makes me wonder though...
If you start the series in ME2 default Mshep and default FemShep romances are with either Kaidan or Ashley. So the only way to romance Liara is through ME1, or in the case of the PS3 the interactive comic. Do you think that will change for ME3, so that the new comic (or whatever they use) will allow every choice since ME1 to be relevant?

I'd imagine so. Since BW repeatedly stated (mostly marketing stunts but still) that ME3 will be a good place to start the series, they're counting on a lot of people playing ME3 without ever having played ME1 or ME2. For these players I'd assume they'll be adding a comic or... something to allow them to make the ME1 and ME2 choices as well. What good would that comic do if you start a new playthrough in ME3 and can't determine what you did in ME1.
Though small time choices like punching Al jilani or whatever her name is or how to treat Conrad Verner (Kindly send him on his way or put a gun to his face) that probably won't have any impact on ME3 except for a few 'lol' moments might not be featured in the comic.

If you use the default from ME2 without using Genesis, you have no LI, just if you play as a male you get Ash and Kaidan if you play fem. I've done that twice. One of those Sheps is dead after the SM. I had to see that ending.Fiddles_stix wrote...

The only way to romance Ash/Kaidan/Liara without using Gensis is to play ME1. Which blows, but there it is. Who knows what they will do with that in ME3. Maybe you can choose someone.
I did buy Genesis for my Xbox because I just couldn't play it on PC. I've tried.
About every choice from ME1, I doubt it. Genesis didn't even mention Feros. You don't get Shiala or Lizbeth, but some random character. It's just slightly better than the default game which is all renegade choices used. Which makes me wonder why they did that.

I just thought it was interesting that there are complaints that Liara is given far too much screen time yet, in ME2 she's not available for romance if you didn't play ME1.

It's not a huge number of people and I suppose they have an argument I'd just rather that discussed the problems with the story rather than blaming it on the character.

There is a group that just hate Liara and her plot armor and would like to see her killed off in ME3 and I think they will be steamed more if she isn't killable. They feel she is forced on their Shepard and didn't like the fact that Liara was super friendly to their Shep on Illium. She save Shepard's life for Goddess sakes.f1r3storm wrote...

I don't get it, but too many want to have control of every litttle aspect of the game and the devs haven't done that. No game does actually. Unless you play pen and paper RPG's then if you don't roll high enough you can't do what you want anyway or the DM won't let you.
Also, they don't like the fact that Liara got her own DLC and the VS didn't. I get that too, but they seem to forget that without Liara, you do not get to Ilos in ME. She is a major character and people seem to have an issue with that too.

I don't even remember if I even went to that thread. But it is what it is. I think everyone including Shep can die in ME3. That just makes sense to me, but I will do anything and everything in my power to keep her alive in every play through I do. It won't matter is she is that Shep's LI or not. She is the best character in the game besides Shepard. Of course, that view is just a tad bit bias.

Seems like the usual 'She's not my favorite character so why is she in my game that much' bullcrap if you ask me. BioWare planned for Liara to be an important character for the overall plot from the beginning so why these people are complaining about it so much... I do not know.
Especially since Liara is such an easy character to like (imo) I don't see how anyone could really dislike her apart from maybe her 'Grrr shadow broker' attitude in her ME2 cameo and most of Lotsb. But maybe that's just the liara fan side of me talking

That's a great idea. Liara on a shirt. Though what kind of quote should they add? I remember a DAO Shale t-shirt with the awesome quote: "Death to all pidgeons!" made me laugh.
Maybe something sweet but not restricted to those romancing Liara like: "It's a bit overwhelming but at least I get to share it with you"
Or
"Because I couldn't let you go..."
That one might be a little too sweet to put on a shirt though...
