It seems to me Shep's parents didn't care enough to stop their kid from running with gangs.

Just to clarify, ladyvader, Earthborn Shepard (my Shepard) grew up as an orphan - having absolutely no idea who his/her (in my case - his) parents are.

I went to the Wikia to see how it was phrased.  It just says grew up in gangs.  Nothing about parents, so I just assumed there could be parents and they didn't give a flip.  I know colonist lost their parents at 16 by batarian slavers on Mindoir.  Spacer Shepard has mom, Hannah.  No mention on dad.  I wasn't 100% sure on who it was phrased for the Earthborn.  Parents or no parents.  It seems Earthborn Shep had a rough childhood and ran in gangs.

When Shepard talks to Ashley (right after overhearing Ashley's sister mention that Shepard is cute) and Ashley mentions her parents - Shepard says that he never knew his parents and that he grew up as an orphan on the streets.

That doesn't make you weird.

According to Bioware's own polls something like 80% of all people who picked up a Mass Effect game, played as Male Shep. I think Mark Meer actually has more fans, at least as far as Shepard goes, but Hale's fans tend to be a lot more vocal.

I never played Earthborn that much.  Probably because I don't play as a renegade much. Probably why I never really knew about the parents.

There been all types of stats actually, some don't say one way or the other.  Like those that customize their Shep.  I don't think that stat said which sex was used more.  I have a total of 10 different Shepards.  Five of each.  I do play my canon femShep more than the others.

I don't know if Meer has more fans, but he doesn't seem to do many interviews or do many conventions.  I was surprised he was added to the one next month I'm going to in St Augustine, FL.  I knew weeks ago Ali Hillis is going to be there and Jennifer Hale, but Meer has been added in the last few days.

I didn't mean weird in a bad way.
I guess it just came out wrong >_<
Also I meant among Liara fans and now just mass effects players in general.

Regardless of my oppinion though, any Liara fan is a great addition to the community.
Also I think that wether you are a femshep fan or maleshep fan,
Ali Hillis is awesum ^^

No. But I do suggest watching the LOTSB scenes with a Maleshep. Both actors gives a great preformance and it is interesting to see both versions of the romance.

I like to think that with a spacer Shepard. She got the dog tags from Shep's mom. Seems selfish for her to keep the dog tags for herself.

Think Hannah Shepard even knows her child was with Liara?  How would she react to that?  I have her being good with it because she could see how much Liara means to her daughter every time she spoke Liara's name.  I'm sure others can RP that Captain Shepard wouldn't be too please with her child being with an asari.

Just wait until Shepard explains that he's only alive because of Liara stealing his body from the Shadow Broker. Capt. Hannah will turn around. I do have a wonder however. Since Ash/Kaidan's reaction towards Cerberus was pretty typical for an alliance soldier, I wonder how Hannah is going to react to reports of Shepard having betrayed the alliance and has now been confirmed to be working with Cerberus. Mommy won't be too pleased with that I assume. Though it's possible she still thinks it's all a cover for Shep's work as a spectre and him working with Cerberus may just be a front to cover up his real mission.

Can I join the 'weird people club'? In all seriousness, there's nothing weird with preferring male to female Shepard. Both hale and Meer did a great job in their voice acting. Some simply prefer one to the other. Hale did a good job voicing FemShep, I noticed during my 1 femshep playthrough. I still prefer Meer's voice acting however. Does that make me weird? I'd say no. There's no such thing as a better voice actor, there are only people's opinions on who they prefer.

These forums are a very bad place to actually measure the general opinion of Mass Effect fans. Liara has the biggest fan club of all squad members. Is it noticable here? No it isn't, simply because Tali and Miranda fans are a lot more creepy and vocal and thus more likely to hit these forums.

I've been to the Miranda thread.  The one time I went they were all complaining about the lack of screen shots or any details on Miranda.  BW has stated more than once why they are being tight lipped about it, but that's not good enough.  Miranda seems to have a major plot going on.  Knowing she is in the game should be good enough, but they still complain no screen shots.  It's all Garrus and Liara..  Tali doesn't have any screen shots either.  I don't even bother with Tali's thread.

@Lizardviking, that blog was from femShep.com.  It's going to be a tad bit bias.  Meer's VO is bad in ME1.  Bewtween him and Kaidan sounding like Carth made me quit playing before finishing Eden Prime.  It wasn't until I played with femShep that I started to enjoy the game and become a fan.

If BW didn't have the two different Shepard, I wouldn't have liked Mass Effect at all.  Simple as that.

I hardly ever play with female characters.  Mass Effect and Dragon Age are the only two series of games, I play more female than male.  Fable and Fallout I have male characters.  My husband is the exact opposite, his games, he plays with the females and OMG, he has a nack for making them butt ugly too.  He think he can make ugly Shep more ugly.  I'm not so sure on that.

I think I might take my Liara comic and have Ali sign it.

How do you know that?

I mean nothing I've ever seen with Liara comes even close to the 10,000+ Tali fan thread, then the subsequent 5,500 page one.

Are there figures, like character most romanced in ME1 or... ?

In other news, the school year's started again and I'm hating it already <_<

Meer's preformance was not good in ME1 I admit. But this blog is new and Meer have stepped up his game in ME2 and is on par with Hale in terms of preformance with Shepard. And the blog's opinion of glorious Femshep being a character while Maleshep is just a dull cardbord cutout makes me roll my eyes by the sheer  [censor] of the statement.

If we're taling about this subforum then Liara's thread (postwise) is only second to Miranda's and Kaidan's threads.

That's why I said you couldn't figure it out here because judging from these forums, Tali and Miranda are both more popular than Liara. There are simply more Tali and Miranda fans on these forums than there are Liara fans. That of course doesn't mean there aren't any other Liara fans. They just don't post here. There's an old 2000+ page Liara thread that kind of showed her off her popularity a bit but that's about it.

I will actually want to rephrase my answer.

I do suggest playing a Maleshep/Liara playthrough despite already having a Femshep/Liara. Not because there is any worthwhile difference between them in ME1. But because there will hopefully be a subtle but refreshing difference between them in ME3.

Started Monday, lol.

Will soon have to write an essay on Othello and another on utiliatarianism and then there's law which seems like it's going to be intense all year.

I'm probably going to have to strip about 95% of the time I spend on the internet and games if I even hope to get a decent grade at the end of all this

My school year started over a month ago, and this year's first test week is starting next week :pinched: and even worse my first (history) exam of this matriculation examination thing is next monday. The rest are at March, yes at the same time when ME3 is released, I think I've mentioned it here already so I'm not getting into it again... Still I'm wondering how your school year starts so late because in Finland even university students have started their this year studies something like a couple weeks ago I guess..

Here is where you are likely dead wrong. You don't see Meer going to any of the Awards shows, or appearing at Bioware booths at game conventions. You do see Hale and Hillis at these, very often. That is a pretty staunch indiccator of just who is more popular.
And when you get them together we get /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/47929.gif !

I suspect they're more popular because most of the Maleshep supporters really don't care who voices Maleshep; he's far more of a blank slate, and given the appalling voice direction Maleshep gets, it wouldn't matter who did anyway.
