What I have seen is that the same people that HATE on one character are absolutely fanatical on another and get upset when someone shows the same level of HATE for their characters. It's like children sometimes.
I also think some do it to show how much they love their character "Ashley was mean to Liara so I hate her!" / "If Ash thinks that she is replacing Miranda!"
I don't get it ... but oh, well.
Now I will admit that my main femshep saw poor Jacob die ... couldn't go into ME3 worried that she would turn all icky again around him. But I didn't kill him because of the way he acted or because of who he was ... I am looking at you Bioware
I am amazed that it seems every other thread is either a "hate Ash" or "hate Liara" topic more or less.
I must admit Ashley being mean to Liara did turn me off the character, not to say I hate her for it but I really didn't like that side of her.
I think killing Jacob to stop Shep acting like a slag is a perfectly good reason. Although I just avoided the personal questions.
I found the whole confrontation quite funny & revealing about the two. Ash is a very emotional and upfront person while Liara is reserved and a quick read.
Liara is showing her gift of "pushing buttons" and poor Ash is treated like the Yahg a little. I must admit I died laughing with the line: "Doctor, you keep smart-assing me, I'll show you what my hostile reaction is like."
But no matter who you picked, my Shepard felt like crap. I hated the whole "her or me" thing so I did it once just to see it but then deleted that Shepard. I think that to have those showdowns of Liara VS Kaidan/Ash is a failure on Shepards part, because he/she is stringing them along. Granted, it is easy to do if you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but that niceness backfires.
I love both characters (Male Shep is with Ash / Female Shep is with Liara) and I can see where they would clash. But I also recognize that Ash is compassionate in nature .... just look at her with Samesh Bhatia (husband of Nirali, former 212 member) and when Liara's mom dies, or if you don't pick Liara in the showdown.
It's funny how when I play my maleshep trying to console Liara, I take her (Liara) at her word that she is okay and that Ash is wrong about her needing someone. But when I play femshep I know that she isn't being truthful with me ... odd how the gender of Shepard can change how you role play even your perceptions.
