TMA summed it up nicely. Though your hunch of playing hard to get is in there as well. It's most obvious if you don't pick the paragon interrupt kiss after the fight with the Shadow Broker. Talking about Feron afterwards will cause Liara to ask if Shepard is jealous, and she very playfully asks Shepard to 'do something about it'. So yes, Liara is definitely interested in getting back together with Shepard, she just doesn't want to force it.
Perhaps player feedback about Liara hitting on Shepard after only 2 conversations (in ME1) had something to do with this. Though Liara explaining her feelings for Shepard can't really be called 'hitting on' but there's a lot of Liara haters out there who want to think otherwise. And haters (as well as talimancers) seem to be the most vocal group out there...:?

Edit: Eugh Fail! Completely forgot top of the page Liara pic. Let's see. Here's one I haven't seen before.

I always thought that it was her armour/outfit that added a extra layer which made them appear larger but I didn't mind really but I might be biased lol.

Its just the outfit, when she wears the dress aboard the Normandy they are back to normal.

That's what I thought. Besides... after playing DA2 and seeing Isabella, you'd still call Liara's Lotsb boobs 'huge'?

Isabella is just hiding boob daggers in there, you never know because she doesn't actually strip -_-

As for Liara's breats, when she comes on board the Normandy her breasts are back to normal size (imo at least) it's just her LotSB armor, it looks weird.

By the way has anyone notices the random asari standing on Illium in Liara's ME1 outfit? The green and white scientist suit. I figured they are stock for asari but it's still weird because when I noticed it I was like "wait is that Liara"

I remember thinking exactly that, its hard to get used to video game outfits being reused so much that many are practically uniforms.

Also, @ Robhuzz - I appreciate the response.  In retrospect knowing that Liara is reluctant to get back into a relationship (from Normandy dialogue) I feel foolish for not thinking of it before.  I know she doesn't want to force a relationship, but when Shepard has to very obviously express intent on getting back together to get that far made me .

On the haters, I don't think most people mind a character hitting on them, judging from the huge fan base that Tali has.  From what I've seen the people who dislike Liara also dislike other "mary-sue" kinda characters (though Liara is anything but mary-sue in ME2, killing enemy agents without remorse, devoting herself to a revenge mission), which Tali fits pretty well into.  (though she is prejudiced against the Geth, but that is pretty minor considering what they have done to the Quarian people)

I am not sure why she gets all the hate, but I can see why people could be consudes about her character. She is a bit of an airhead in ME1 she just kinda got swept up in this wild goose chase after Saren, and (for those who chose it to be) got into a relationship with a human, almost out of the blue (no pun intended xD). And in ME2 she's like "all grown up" and srs bzns and Shadow Broker this and Shadow Broker that, it was really out of character for her, of course once you complete her missions and do the LotSB it all becomes clear especially in the end when she almost has a nervous breakdown.
With Tali it's different, you are basicly friends and squadmates from the start, without her your mission would have been a failure, you help her with the Geth data (or choose to anyway) and then she grows, matures, and basicly falls for Shep during these events, and in ME2 you get to expand on that. As far as Geth hate goes, I think she will be one of the first to accpet the Geth as allies if there was a chance, because she had to work along side with Legion.

Ok I don't know where I was going with this xD
Lets keep this on topic, I love Liara :D

I'm not sure ME2 Liara is that far out of her character. We noticed Liara is brave, capable and smart and the fact that she got swept up in ME1 didn't change this. Like you said she was caught off guard. After having spent 50 years (almost half of her life) studying remote prothean digsites she simply forgot about most of her social skills. Being the daughter of a well respected Matriarch I think Liara learned some social skills in the first 50 years of her life. In ME1 she adjusts remarkable quickly, is not afraid to speak her mind, even though Shepard is the only one who actually trusts her. I think this trust is also a key point as to why Liara develops feelings for Shepard.

When Liara's 'new' life was destroyed along with Shepard and the normandy, Liara was alone once again. Being approached by cerberus to help bring Shepard back to life was, in her opinion, the least she could do. After this mission had succeded and Feron was captured, she felt obliged to try and avenge/rescue him. To do that, she needed to go into the information broker business. She soon learned the only way to succeed at this was to become more ruthless so as to not be stepped on by all the 'big guys' in the information broker business.

So yes, while it seems the gap between ME1 Liara and ME2 Liara couldn't be bigger, I feel everything she did in ME2 was out of loyalty/love for Shepard and later loyalty to Feron and actually does fit her character quite well. Sorry for the big chunk of text. I could write about Liara all day it seems:pinched:

Yes I think many of us can write about Liara all day :)

I see where you are coming from, but what I meant was if the players who played ME1 and didn't romance Liara, didn't read the comic, and didn't see her till Illium would be surprised at her sudden change and a cold shoulder.
As far as I remember, Liara doesn't tell you that she gave you to Cerberus untill you bring her the data on the SB and start that mission. So I think that's why people were so confused about her reaction.
Assuming that Aethita is Liara's "father" we know Liara has so krogan traits in her, meaning that her actions and ruthlessness is not that farfetched, what I meant is the more we learn about her, the more we understand and relate to her, but the hate comes from people who have no idea or a vague idea of what her character went through, as well as not really knowing her backstory.

Honetly I find it rather hard to understand people calling Liara shalow or boring, the character has more depth then most other characters, and is, in my oppinion more devoted to Shepard then anyone else. I mean seriously... boring? Jacob is boring, Liara is awesum :D
She also has a great voice actoress, and I think she contributed greatly to her Character, you can even hear it in her interview.

Sorry about another wall of text <_<

@Kadzin you can find out that Liara gave Shep's body to Cerberus in ME2 but it can easily be missed if you don't pick the right dialogue option. Even though Liara does change quite a bit I don't really see her as this timid mouse some people make her out to be in ME1. She's very confident in regards to her prothean research, she thinks her theories have been overlooked due to her age (even though she admits she doesn't have much on the lines of specific evidence to support her theories) and she's ready to dismiss Shepard's theories because she doesn't expect anyone could know something about the protheans that she doesn't already know. Its only when she hears about the beacon that she takes an interest in what Shep has to say. Accidentally say you want to do an in depth study of someone one time and you're branded a socially inept nerd forever.

I agree, I
am not saying Liara is just a damsel in distress (whe did that only on
Therum :P) I am just saying that people see her this way. I for example
think that she is just a bit socially awkward in the first game, you can
ever hear her comment on how she feel uncomfortable around so many
people on the Citadel. But I fully agree, she is very determined. I
think however Shepard took over the priorities of interest over
protheans in ME1 don't you think? ;)

We saw asari commandos in the first game, they do not wear these things, we also saw some of the crew of the Destiny Ascention, and they also do not wear these "bandaids" :P
Samara is the only asari we see it on, and she also happens to be the only asari Justicar we happen to come upon. So I think it's safe to assume that those things are justicar only.
I would just like to add that I do not like it, it looks stupid and doesn't suit Liara at all.

well, its probably because they didnt want to waste time designing diffrent asari military outfits in me1 so all wear it, we still hasnt seen regular asari infantry so its possible.
it makes sense to me that samara uses asari military equipment, same with liara or maybe she has submited to the justicar code.

as for the looks evryone has diffrent tastes

Do we even know what those things on her forehead are? Are they simply markings or some kind of equipment meant to enchance biotic abilities?

The outfit is basically a recolored version of her LotSB armor, but those head thingies make her look too much like Samara..

I think it's just a simple head dressing.

Here's something from Cerberus News:

"Species throughout Council space are celebrating the asari holiday of
Janiris today, a springtime fertility ritual marking the new year.
Janiris is celebrated with the making and wearing of flower wreaths,
exchanged among friends and lovers.  This year, Janiris falls upon the
same day as the Earth holiday of St. Patricks’ Day, a once-religious
holiday now widely celebrated in secular fashion with parades and the
consumption of green fermented drinks. To mark the dual holiday, humans
are making wreaths containing shamrocks, the festival’s traditional
plant. Earth’s Chicago River, usually dyed green for the day, will be
dyed blue as a nod to Janiris."

So I think Asari just like to put decorations on their heads.

My Renegade never asks about the relationship, she only grabs Liara after the first kiss, out of pure reflex of course. ^_^
You can walk away and Liara will ask about the relationship.
I'm curious though, if the romance dialogue changes in ME3 when you don't get back together in the DLC. The picture is still up, so I think the romance isn't broken.

Most likely caused by Lotsb being DLC. Since you didn't cheat, the picture is still up. Though the romance certainly ends in Lotsb if you don't pick the 'put pressure' response.
Makes me wonder though. It's obvious Liara would like nothing more than to become involved with Shepard again. I'm wondering what kind of dialogue Liara will have in ME3 if you choose to end the romance on friendly terms.

Would Liara mention in ME3 that she misses you more than she thought, that she wished you hadn't ended it and that she wishes they were back together? Either way such a scene would be unbelievably sweet:wub: and I might actually make a Shepard who breaks up with Liara in Lotsb yet doesn't romance someone else, for the sole purpose of a scene like described earlier.
