Well I hope she joins early. The moment I see "recruit Liara" on the Galaxy Map I'm going straight there. It's kinda like how in ME1 the only co-ordinates the Normandy will ever acknowledge once I first take control of it are those giving the location of Therum.

She's in all the demos so far besides the gameplay demo on Earth.  Which makes sense Liara not being there.

It also could be we  hope to be able to get her early in the game.  If so, she's my first stop.

I assume it is because it is said, though I cannot remember where or by whom, that she will be one of the permanent squad members and that would not make sense if she was not recruited untill late.

Let's not forget BioWare made Liara the SB for a reason. And I mean other than just making sure she won't join the ME2 squad. I imagine among the first things Shepard will do is figure out what the hell to do about the Reapers. For that, he needs intel. No one but the Shadow Broker knows everything that's going on in the galaxy. For me, the first and only logical thing to do is tell joker to head to the Hourglass Nebula, then to the Sowilo system and head for planet Hagalaz and once there ask Liara what her sources say about the state of the galaxy (After a hug + kiss from romanced Liara!) I imagine we might get a full report from Liara on our current position.

If I remember correctly Casey said that the Mordin demo is in the middle of the game.

And then there are my personal speculations.
Liara will be important for the ME3 plot. We know this from ME1 and ME2.
The VS and Liara are the only unkillable Squadmates. They promised viewer permanent Squadmates, but deeper relationships.

And there is the SB factor. The SB-Base could be a good Quest-hub.

So I think we will bump into not permanent Squadmates more by accident, but I don't think that Liara even left her Ship.
But in the end, we don't know until we played the game. ^_^

To be honest I have no good reason for that despite the fact that she is a key character but well there are other important caharacters too so.. no good reasons really. And maybe I don't assume but hope that she'll be recruitable in the very early stage of the game. Just because.
So yes in short: no good reasons, and I don't assume, I hope:wizard:

Edit: Robhuzz and kumquats seem to have pretty good points there.

I would like the game to start with vid conferences where Liara gives us intel and then maybe after a couple missions have her join. Maybe the base comes under attack and Shepard has to get her out. I actually liked battling on the ship. My male Shepard would also save Feron!

Well, I will be doing everything I can to see she remains SB as long as possible. And Tali and Legion are permanent squad mates in ME2, and Thane was in a lot of the demos.

Because Cerberus NOT trying to take out the SB base first would seem incredibly stupid.

Also the Sur´kesh demo was said to be in the "middle" of the game. I imagine that means Liara will be getting relativly early.

Was Legion confirmed as a permanent squad member? I hadn't heard that.

Thane in demos? That's cool.

IN ME2, PMC. My point is they show up late and are permanent. Thane was, I believe in demos for levels that occurred before he could be recruited.

The only demo I can remember Thane being a squadmate in was the derelict Reaper mission.

Calling Shepard, darling?
That would be awkward, if they are on a battlefield. /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/28018.gif

I say go for it!

Shepard being overwhelmed by husks.
Shepard: could you give me a hand here darling?
Liara: sure thing honey.
Garrus: ....
Tali: oh Keelah

For some reason I have always imagined my Shepard calling Liara sweetheart, no idead why.

Another awkward situation like in Lotsb when fighting in front of the hatch. Only instead of this:

Shepard: Liara?!
Liara: I'm sure it won't be much longer!

We get

Shepard: Erm.. Sweetie, a little help please?
Liara: Sure hun...

Make it happen BioWare! Alternate dialogue for romanced Liara/Shepard!:wizard: We all know BioWare loves Liara as well so it shouldn't be an issue.

I'll settle for my romanced FemShep not calling her "T'Soni".

I'm surprised that Liara didn't retort with "What did you call me?"/"You have never called me that!" in LotSB.

Actually my FemShep prefer to call her "Broker" in private. "Doctor" in public.

Same with Mordin. I wish that my Shepard would always call him "Professor". Such a nice sounding word. :-D

Well at least she will join Shepard in the middle of the game, everything else is more speculation.

I liked the whole "T'Soni" bit myself. But I guess it all comes down to preferences.

Yep. Don't get me wrong. I love her but the Broker is a big part of her appeal for me.

Leaving Feron to be killed by Cerberus? Bad idea, at least if you want Liara to remain at your side for once. If Feron is killed by Cerberus, bet she'll go on a 2 year revenge quest to find and kill TIM. Those plans don't fit in my Shepard's retirement plans where he and Liara travel the galaxy together. Avoiding danger and visiting nice places for once.

I don't think she'll stop being the Broker while on the ship; I suspect she'll still have access to what she can of the information network.

*shakes fist at Rob*

How dare you throw a wrench in my Shepard's plans!

But, um ... er, you are right. Another revenge quest for Liara would not be good.

And now my tongue hurts. I need to see a doctor.

What I don't want is, to jump on to the Normandy and Liara is sitting next to Joker. Picking her up is something I will look forward to, but there should be at least like 8-10 hours of gameplay.
But we will see. ^_^
