Never tried the renegade option with Liara. I just simply can't, 'cause I expect Shepard to say something bad. DA2 did it very good, it didn't really matter what I chose, all options turned out to be good. Fenris especially I liked the 'Aggresive' responces. Maybe I'll try some during my next playthrough.

Oh, TotP. Embrace perfection.

I do have a video of my angry femShep renedaging Liara on Illium.  I'll post the link if you want.  It's buried in the thread some place.  I have no idea which page though.

Nice pic.  <3

Question for those who have read the comics:

Is Liara's sudden career shift from archaeologist and Prothean expert to intel broker ever explained? Not in the sense of her emotional state or motivations, but how someone with seemingly no experience in the cloak and dagger world of being an intel broker, would end up heading a significant operation on Illium?

Short of any explanation from Bioware I have my own personal head canon, but was wondering if it conflicts with any canon established in the comics.

My theory is that Benezia was an intel broker, which would both explain Benezia's pre-indoctrination connection to Saren (they would be operating in the same circles) and Liara's seemingly sudden shift to being an intel broker in ME2. Following Benezia and Shepard's death, she accesses her mother's old files, picks up the pieces of the organization and moves it to Illium, with perhaps the core members being people who formerly worked for Benezia.

Thoughts?

The comic ends with Liara having recovered Shepard's body, there is no mention of  what happens afterwards. The only clue we ever get about why she is able to be an information broker (not her motivations as they are fairly clear) is as she says "the world of information isn't that different from a digsite... except that the dead bodies stll smell" or something along those lines.
I don't personally think there is something special about it beyond her entering that world as it is the only way she can get back at the SB and then finding out she has a talent for cloack and dagger games, and the emotional barriers she erect about herself allow her to survive in that world.

Benezia was known and revered as a teacher of religion and philosophy.  She was not an information broker.

The Shadow Broker made an enemy with Liara when he tried to sell Shepard's body and by taking Feron.  That is why Liara went into the information business.  It was the only way she could get anything on the SB, to play the same game he was playing.  And after learning the fate of the Protheans, what else is there to learn from them?  Everything everyone thought was Prothean technology, is really Reaper technology.

Illium is the perfect place.  It's an asari colony but is not in asari space nor Council space.

Hmm. I wonder what Liara thinks of the Protheans now. They're still impressive I'd say. And I really want her to tell me what that sphere on the coffee table is. But I wonder how she sees them. Tragic? Still worth studying?

I think doing the research from the SB base is fullfilling enough for Liara for now.  After the war is over, who knows.  I have her and Shepard raising a family on Illium with Liara going back to being an information broker.  Shepard is the hired muscle and goes off planet to gather information Liara needs for clinets.  I may have them move and chance careers in the story I am writing now.  I'm still debating that.  B)

I think between Liara's research of the files on the SB base and EDI, those two will be key in defeating the Reapers.  We'll know in four short months.  Okay, it won't be that short of a wait, but I think everyone knows what I mean.  The teaser trailer is eleven months old now.

For me, the fall season always goes quickly.   It's NFL time and the next thing I know it's Thanksgiving and holiday time.  Then we'll have a shorter wait once the holidays are over.  I'm going back full blown in Mass Effect mode in February.  Oh, wait, I'm still in full ME mode.    I don't think Skyrim is going to change that.

I didn't mean to say she'd return to studying the Protheans. I don't think she can, even if she'd want to. I guess I'm asking if she'd want to? And I guess just what does she make of them now, in light of all she's learned?

Oh and I know what fullblown ME mode is:happy:. If I'm not playing, I'm on here. If I'm with my friends chances are good we're talking about it. I even dream about it. I tried taking a break and moving to other games but every game seems bland to me now.

I think that she still has a love for them given what she has in her apartment. Then to know that they were responsible for stopping the cycle by leaving the beacons, Vigil, blocking the keepers from opening up the Citadel on command.

And I do think that when all of this is over she would write a book on their fate and the role they played in this final Reaper cycle. I don't think they would laugh at her now. Posted Image

Indeed, her enthusiasm on Ilos is palable and as said she has quite alot of artefacts in her apartment, including a picture of Ilos she likely has either has commisioned after her own describtion or perhaps even painted herself, since practically no one else has seen the planet.

I do think she is still loves learning about the Protheans.  It's her passion.  I don't know if there is anything more for her to learn though.  Maybe Liara and Shepard take a trip to Ilos and explore more of the planet.  I can really see her doing that actually.  I haven't written anything about that, but who knows.  I may in the future.

I have for the most part stopped playing much game wise including the ME1 redo of my canon femShep.  I started that run last week and only picked up Liara and done Pinnicle Station(Finally got around to downloading it).   I've been too busy working on my latest story.  Or trying to anyway.

I think she realises, better than anyone, what the protheans did for the current races. They could've taken the easy way out. The last dozen or so scientists could've spent the last of their years doing nothing, instead they not only spent several decades(!) working on decrypting the keeper signal, they then used the conduit to travel to the Citadel, knowing there would be no food, no water and no way to transport themselves there, effectively condemning themselves to starving to death. All so that the future races would have a fighting chance against the Reapers.

Those who survive the reaper war owe the Protheans everything. Liara is fully aware of this while most others (Even the Hanar, who worship them as gods) are not. I think she won't go back to studying them - the mystery she studied in ME1 has now been solved - but she'll always remember what the Protheans did and respect them for it.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents on Liara and the Protheans. Like Ladyvader, I'd have my Shepard and Liara live together somewhere on Illium or another nice planet, perhaps start a family some day, but if I can help it, she won't be going back to studying digsites, nor will she be the Shadow Broker for a very long time...

The council sent people to Ilos - they know Vigil is no longer working - they could not have known if they hadn't been there. Hock (Kasumi DLC) has a prothean statue from Ilos in  his vault. There's no way he would've recovered them himself so I bet he bought it from a bunch of looters/thieves. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a small colony and research outpost on Ilos by the time of ME3.

@Robhuzz

I have Liara doing the information broker job again, but she kept some of the SB contacts and still uses them when she needs to. Why throw away a resource if Liara doesn't need to? How many of those contacts survive the war is the question.

And speaking of Hock, anyone have any idea where the yahg statue came from? Until the LotSB DLC came out, we had no idea what that huge statue was. I do love Kasumi's comments when looking at it. Now when I hear her say that, I think, I'll use it as a punching bag.

Sorry couldn't resist.

It's in Hock's vault.  There are four rows of art work to look through.  It's the fourth row from where Shepard and Kasumi walk into the vault itself.  First row has the statue from Ilos and the Egyptian piece.  The next row has the quaraian script and a Krogan.  The third row has the Locust SGM and Kaji's greybox.  The last row as the yahg statue and a statue of the Kara, a turian ship.  It's close to the door you go through to leave the vault and where Hock's sercurity team came from.

I think I know the one you're referring to. I don't think it's supposed to be a yahg. I remember hearing it might've been a shout-out to Dragon Age. Don't quote me on that, I haven't played DA but it is supposed to be a fantasy creature.

I'm redoing my canon femShep in ME1.  OMG, I am now realize how much I miss having Liara in my squad in ME2.  Nothing like having three krogan in your face and Liara throws a singulary and they all go flying in the air.  I need more of this in ME3.  :wizard:

Sadly, since all Krogan have armor covering their health bar, a singularity wouldn't do anything... You'd still need to shoot them a lot before singularity even works :| Might have to take down the difficulty again to be able to make nice combos between Shepard and Liara. She's going to be on my squad for a long while...
